I for one was not happy at all with many things about today,s game.
But we won simply because we have more talent (and AD!!)
The Lions, give them credit had something for McVay's offense. DBs sat on the short, outside stuff and screens.
But where was McVay's answer ? Where was all the 'deep-ins" ? He called a timeout down near the Lions 10. Then ran up the middle for no gain.
First series had a 3rd and short and tried to throw one over the top to a TE ? Then punted. Its like they did not take them seriously, thought it would be much easier than it was.
And I HATE fade type plays on the goal line. Too much has to go right. Low percentage plays. Much rather would like to see a short pass right in front of the goal line and the receiver fall into the end zone.
Goff should have had 3 picks and tried to give them the game near the end. VERY lucky one of those back to back "almost s" was not a pick 6.
This game easily could have been lost and put us behind the Saints for home field.
Had plenty of luck and more talent prevailed.
Hope the kid learns from this and moves on.
But, teams that have great seasons usually have a game or two where it just works out in your favor.
Now, take the Bears much more seriously.
My rant is done. I fell better now.

I love McVay, but my honeymoon with him is over. His playcalling has to be better. Goff was off today, he looked like he might have been ill. McVay needs to recognize this, and he needs to change his calls - Gurley was unstoppable today.

All I know is our Offense is missing those Sammy Watkins inside slants at the goal line.

Cooks is great and offers more between the 20s... but we sure could use a Reynolds or Everett making that available to us again!

We better not be resting starters like last year. Any type of break has really broken flow to this team.

Some of y'all are getting spoiled. His play-calling is as brilliant as ever. The entire team was off today. Goff missed some throws he makes (and fumbled the ball away on a play where he had Woods open for a nice gain). The Lions got away with some penalties that screwed him on a couple of should-be big plays. And the receivers were off just a tad with the timing and routes. Simply put, we were just a little off as a whole today.

And let's not claim Gurley was unstoppable. Gurley was getting stopped for large chunks of this game. When he was running well, we gave him opportunities. But there were plenty of drives where we were running Gurley into a wall.

Just tip your cap to the Lions. We had an off day, and their defense played well. Sometimes, the defense just executes well. That was true today. I don't think it's an omen or anything. Goff has had some games where he looked unstoppable this year, and two games where he was off. Those two games were the Broncos and the Lions. I expect he bounces back against the Bears. The kid tends to bring it in the games we need it the most.

Goff was like this first game of the season. Seems like it takes him awhile to get use to playing in an actual game. The bye must of caused something similar. You'd think he'd play through it by the 2nd half but he just wasn't quite able to. The Lions D played well and kept him from getting rolling.

This is good though that it was the Lions. It was a good warm up for the Bears.

Goff was awful today and actually should of been worse ......something was off even his completions weren't right. I love the kid but that was a terrible showing. Missed a lot of throws high completed a lot of throws high just very inaccurate over all but let's just hope it was to much turkey and lazy down time. Please though during our next bye keep this team and him mostly alert, engaged, and enthused. Have to also add the offensive line in the passing game seemed asleep as well. Donald Gurley Legatron and some clutch grabs from woods won that game. We will take it but better be on your toes next week Bears offense is good, Nagy is creative, qb if he plays is mobile, wideouts are very good, and running backs can gash us......and of course we have there defense to contend with coming off a loss.

I thought Goff looked bad at his press conference too, as if he wasn’t feeling really well.

I can’t believe our coach has only gotten us to 11-1. You can throttle every team in the league if you only have your players ready to play. Every play will work and no defense can stop anything you do. Man our coach sucks. I’m tired of sugar coating it. The honeymoon is over. He’s into his second whole year as a head coach and doesn’t know everything. What in THE hell is taking him so long. FFS! I mean we could have lost this game if we didn’t win it by 14. 30 points? What the fuck is that? You should be able to do that in your sleep in this league. The experiment is over. McVay needs to either get his shit together or we need to move on.

That about cover it or did I miss some form of idiocy in there somewhere? Lovely thread. Glad everyone feels better for it.

I didn't see the game. Just about to watch it on DVR. But we scored 30 and won by 14. Even covered the point spread for those who made a wager.

And we are not happy. McVay sure has the bar set high. Cheers Rams brothers. Just remember 2 full years are ago we were 4-7 and scoring 30 took us two games. LOL

What a tough crowd. No respect. No respect at all. I tell you, my first tub toy was a toaster.....

Realistically, You can't be "on" every week. This would be a week the team was down. We just got through playing the game of the year. And next week we play another division leader. And this week.....we had the 4-7 Lions. (And they had the 10-1 Rams.....their possible Cinderella story into a possible playoff run....we were their last chance.....) And they played their best ball and we didn't. But we still got out of town w/ a 2 score win. Go back 2 + years and see if that happens to the Rams. Perfection is always desired but rarely achieved. Luckily we do has some good pieces in place when you are a bit further away from perfection.

You have your love affair with him all you want, but McVay's infatuation with the pass for long stretches of time is going to hurt this team at a critical moment, we are lucky it hasn't so far.

This should NEVER happen with a QB who is clearly off his game:

  • 1st & 10 at LAR 16
    (10:12 - 4th) J.Goff pass incomplete short left to T.Gurley (R.Okwara).

  • 2nd & 10 at LAR 16
    (10:06 - 4th) J.Goff pass incomplete short right to T.Higbee (E.Harold).

  • 3rd & 10 at LAR 16
    (10:02 - 4th) (Shotgun) J.Goff pass incomplete short left to J.Reynolds [E.Ansah].

  • 4th & 10 at LAR 16
    (9:57 - 4th) J.Hekker punts 53 yards to DET 31, Center-J.McQuaide, fair catch by B.Ellington.

To expect us to always blow out teams is unrealistic. This is the NFL. It’s hard to win as it is. Sometimes a team has to overcome adversity and win these types of games. Especially on the road. Good football teams find ways to win. We’re a great football team. Not perfect. No team is.
