Idiots? Lol

Well every team has depth. Some teams have better depth than others. I recall the Rams playing some injury depleted teams in recent years and losing to them.

But consider that there is different quality of depth. For instance last year when some of us lamented the loss of JJ and Hill, so many here said the Rams have the depth to deal with it. The defense took a hit because the depth wasn’t as good as the players lost. Then the third string guys become your second string. Sure recency bias may make it look like a no brainer. But the Rams DBs had a relatively easy job against Arizona. Murray played like crap and the defensive line did all of the work.

But I recall Reeder, Long and Deayon being picked apart by San Francisco in the second half of that last game. Their tackling was pathetic too.

Kingsbury isn’t at Shanahan's level when it comes to exploiting weaknesses. I hope that Snead can add better quality starters and depth in the Rams secondary this off-season.

Also look at the starters. Fuller is not at JJs level. Rapp can tackle but can’t cover. Rochelle is a raw athlete. Williams has struggled in his new role. Outside of Ramsey they could upgrade the entire unit with middle of the road free agents if they had cap space.
Nobody's depth is perfect and there will be a drop off from the starters in most cases. I am saying our depth has made a bunch of plays. The hit on green for one. The interception by Long. The sack by Reeder that caused the play long made. How about our Oline when we had covid and injury. The played really good against a good Cardinals D. Look at 18 making a play here and there and of course Howard making plays. I am just saying our depth isn't the disaster that analyst were trying to make it out to be when saying " yea some great starters but their depth is lacking. It was just an assumption that if we spent so much on big names and had no early draft picks, that we couldn't have much backing them up. It was completely wrong. We couldn't have made it thru the second half if we didn't have good depth along with good coaching.

Reeder is a great blitzer but a very poor coverage guy.

I would have Reeder show he is blitzing or delay blitzing on ALL passing downs and then drop back half the time.

Mix it up by moving him around back there too on those passing downs

And have Rapp move up after Reeder is blitzing
Reeder is good at moving forward. I want to give him props because he appears to always give 110%. However he is below average at covering a TE/RB in the middle. And he is poor at moving laterally or changing direction resulting in poor pursuit angles and missed tackles in space. I want him on the Rams but as an ILB 3/4 not 1/2.

I understand what you are saying. That maybe the lack of depth was overstated, but I still think it’s a reality. Being tight against the cap sucks. So they lose guys that they spent 4-5 years developing, and have to plug in some less experienced guys.

The way it’s set up is that superstars make the depth players job easier. On Reeder’s blitz the Cards Oline sent four Olinemen to ADs side. Reeder had one guy to beat in space. He gets the pressure. And then Long’s Int, displayed great reaction time and awareness but it was a lob, again thanks to the DLine stars. It worked this week.

I hope it continues to work. It may just be a timing issue but right now the Rams depth isn’t great in some spots. Safety is one of those spots. If they bring in a guy who retired two years ago, that’s a glaring need.

"Los Angeles is a team of stars" and "Rams best players aren't homegrown".
Etc...
I see or hear different variations of these same claims more and more, usually delivered as some backhanded compliment, and even if they are partially true, it misses the real strength of this team: Not integrating old stars but creating new ones.
This team finds and develops guys like JJ3, Kupp, Hendo, Akers and most recently Ernest Jones to fill out our ever changing roster and keep us in contention year after under McVay.

I still feel like if Reeder would lose 10 to 15 lbs he would be a much better player. It would help counter that weakness in his ability to change direction.

They got hit hard at safety and that would probably be a problem for any team when one position piles up injuries at this point in the season. Look what happened to our receivers. A position of strength. We lost all but 1 of our back up receivers to season ending injury. We get OBJ out of luck, but then we loose Woods. That could have been back breaking for any team. We were lucky it happened earlier in the season or maybe we would be desperate like at safety. You just can't cover everything and even teams that keep their picks have these problems and let good players go for cap reasons.

Agreed. The timing of Fuller's injury and losing Hughes to Detroit via waivers had everything to do with the need to sign Weddle. We also lost JR Reed earlier in the season to a waiver claim.

Hughes that shitter. If he had just been patient he'd be playing playoff ball for us and maybe earning a job. :laugh1:

Reeder really stepped up this week… green dot and all. He’s a good backup.

Really hope Jones is good to go because he’s a clear upgrade.

Man, it feels like shit clicked with Howard… if that’s real? What a boost.

Would love to have Jones this week but will be a much bigger deal if he can be back in time to deal with GB or San Fran if we make it past this weekend. He'll be far more important against those two teams imo.

For those that don't know, and I'm pretty sure you guys do, this may be one of the low key most important guys in this organization and I hope Stan has told him to just come to him so he can counter and offer.

Great point OldSchool. We without a doubt have had great success injury wise in recent years
as well as great recovery's .

I honestly believe covid is one of the reasons for our high rate of injuries this year.
Reggie's hands have been tied due to all of the protocals implemented, that have limited the ability to have access
to the team compared to normal circumstances.

JMHO - The high rate of injuries to our rookies, to some extent has to be partly due to the short or lack of the
college season last year.
