From what I've observed over the last ten years or so, the Rams like to put out smoke screens before the draft of who they supposedly "like." Every single damn time, if there's a rumor out there that the Rams "like" a guy, they NEVER take him.

Rams run a super-tight ship. Probably only Snead and McVay and MAYBE one or two other guys know what they are REALLY thinking at this point.

So yeah, this Riddick rumor makes me even more inclined to think the Rams will NOT take Simpson. There have been tons of examples of "smoke screens" in recent years. For example, I remember there was a ton of pre-draft talk in 2024 about the Rams wanting LB Dallas Turner, but later on they pretty much acknowledged that Jared Verse was their Edge target all along.

Lots of other examples of smoke screens, but that's the most recent one I remember.

Yep. I think there are some in the media who have real connections and know who the Rams like in a given draft. However they probably aren't gonna tip their hand. Schrags for example. Or Whit.

I don't remember a Dallas Turner rumor. Maybe speculation I guess. But I remember the one about Brock Bowers that year. And Chop Robinson (who probably would have been the selection had Verse not unexpectedly fallen into their laps) right before that draft.

The Rams couldn't swing an attempted trade up for a rumored player or two or three over the years. Others may have even been selected earlier than they expected.

I was mostly responding to this bogus idea I've seen around here (not neccessarily from you) that Goff wasn't good until later in Detroit .

TBH this concept of a "QB whisperer" is something i see thrown around but i, not sure if it's even a real thing.

any examples of a QB whisperer?

Then basically every draft pick is a reclamation
No, Darnold showed promise, like Mayfield, and was able to "reclaim" that success
I'd even throw Zach Wilson in as a potential. Lance is literally one of the worst picks of all time and had no place being drafted that high.
Kurt Warner wasnt a reclamation project as a Ram, as a Giant and Cardinal he was
Man I will say this, Zach hasn't shown me anything to let me think he can be reclaimed. Darnold: you could see the arm talent all the way. Mayfield: had a good enough arm and a gunslinger mentality that could just will a 4th quarter comeback. Darnold had to have the game slow down for him, Mayfield to get healthy and not think he was always right (a problem that didn't go away till Rams).

Wilson... he's got arm strength but no real talent (accuracy is shiiiiiiiite). And he's got some mobility but man I just don't see more there. I don't think you can reclaim a guy who lacks accuracy the way he does at this stage in his career along with his complete lack of ability read the field.

That's a bit of a stretch. He mentions that they should draft him not that they like him or anything else. Mumpfield is a McVay type of WR a guy who blocks and runs good routes. It's not a stretch at all to think he'd fit in with the Rams.

If Mumpfield could put on some weight (in an NFL program) and not lose his speed or agility there could be something there.

I don't think there was a smoke screen for Turner. Some mocks and analysts mentioned him and us cause we needed pass rush help and fans on here talked him up.

Rams tend to share information about offseason intentions that's true if they don't think it gives a competitive advantage to anyone and not say anything about who they like if it does. They don't tend to lie or put out smoke screens. Perhaps it's happened once or twice but it's not their MO.

They do tend to keep some interviews and follow up on prospects under wraps though and this has been proven year in and year out when they said that what's-his-name special assistant out to do a final round of background on guys in the draft.

These rumors are just BS. No one puts out an article about a tackle or center or safety because no one cares. But put out an article about Stafford retiring and the Rams needing a QB then and the BS starts flying.

I thought it came out that Byron Murphy was the target all along and the hags grabbed him right before us. Verse may have been their top Edge, but I think they wanted Murphy (according to what I recall with reports).

I really don't think that they would take Simpson at #13 overall.

Now all bets are off if he's still on the board at #29. Especially, if he shows up at the combine at 6'2", 215 lbs. and doesn't have small hands.

PFF's Mock came out today, THEY have us grabbing Simpson at 29. I personally don't think he'll last that long.

After the combine, Ty won’t make it to 13. Quarterback needy teams “reach” for quarterbacks earlier than projected all the time.

See, Josh Allen, Bo Nix, Jaxson Dart as recent examples that paid off

I agree on that Ty Simpson will be gone before 13 with such a bad QB selection out there this draft. I always hate seeing a bad team in desperate need of a QB draft one early as if forced to......almost always ends up a bad story, (see all Jets QB drafts!)

For me, if Sean McVay says, "I want TY at 13", you will see me fall in line.

I do kind of hope he's gone by 13, that will have a good player drop further down. Give me Downs!
