Show me where I said he had. also we know he's not the kind of guy that will do so. But we have heard Snead and McVay talk about going to Stan with a plan to get his blessing on spending his money or taking big risks with his team. You'd have to be naive to think he isn't at the very least briefed in this kind of moves. But he's known as Silent Stan for a reason. The only time they've ever talked about discussing things with him that I remember him being talked to were the trades up for Goff and the trades for Von Miller and Stafford.
I do seem to recall when they wined and dined Suh because he was really interested in Stan’s development investments. I think many of us joked about SK giving him a sweetheart deal on a development deal to get him to the Rams.

Still what that shows to me is that Stan will get involved at times - maybe only when asked - but hires people he believes in.

For the most part, Demoff and, more so Pastours handle the contract dollars and cap and Snead structures the trades and draft with McVay’s input.

I’m sure Stan has final sign off of some sort. But it seems they mostly bring him in to close big deals when they feel the need.

Basically I think Stan is the shmoozer but he leaves the real details to his people.

I’m not sure he says much about what to pay whom.

All that said, with this being Stan’s crown jewel, I’m sure they meet fairly regularly.

Rams' asking price for Matthew Stafford revealed

Story by Logan Lazarczyk, Yardbarker
• 1h • 3 min read

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been the subject of multiple trade rumors this offseason.

The 37-year-old quarterback has two years remaining on his current contract but is seeking an extension that would have him closer to the league's highest-paid signal callers.

Fox Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported Wednesday that the Rams are seeking a premium pick in return for Stafford.

"Several teams, per league sources, have called [Los Angeles] about Stafford and the belief is a first-round pick would probably be the asking price should the Rams choose to make a deal," Schultz wrote. "Again, the Rams want him back (he also carries a $49.3 million cap hit in if released) and there's been nothing to this point that would suggest Stafford doesn't want to play for them, but this is undoubtedly one of the biggest storylines heading into free agency next month."
Trading Stafford would cost the Rams a $45.3 million dead cap hit in 2025 and approximately $23 million in 2026. The Super Bowl-winning quarterback is scheduled to earn $23 million, including only $4 million guaranteed in 2025.

It may be a head-scratching development, as the Rams still have multiple years of control on Stafford's contract but remember, Cooper Kupp is seemingly on the trade block after posting on Twitter that the team "will be seeking a trade immediately" earlier in February.

Kupp's relationship with Stafford has been well-documented, and the decision to move Kupp may have irked the star quarterback.

Stafford is still one of the league's top quarterbacks, but Kupp's inevitable departure signals the team is turning the page and looking toward the future.

Aaron Rodgers has been rumored to replace Stafford if the Rams can orchestrate a trade with a team willing to part with a first-round pick.

Transitioning to the often disgruntled, 41-year-old quarterback should not be the move Los Angeles ultimately makes. It does not make much sense in any circumstance.

In terms of football, Rodgers is a shell of his former self and is arguably a bottom-10 quarterback in the NFL. In addition, Rodgers is four years older than Stafford. It would be cheaper to have Rodgers, but it is not worth the discount.

Stafford led the Rams to a division title despite starting the season 1-4 with the offensive line falling apart during that stretch, an over-the-hill Kupp and a young and developing defense.

It is hard to believe a team with Los Angeles' aspirations would want to deal with a player like Rodgers, who has continually created chaos and dysfunction over the last three years with the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets.

If the Rams are serious about exploring the trade market for Stafford, they should have a long-term answer in place. Perhaps the team is eyeing a quarterback in the upcoming draft and envision Rodgers serving as a bridge option.

If that is the route the Rams choose, they should look into drafting former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, who can sit and learn behind Rodgers. The question is, would that be something Rodgers would be on board with?

ME: Seems to support my earlier posted articles that Stafford is looking for Dak Prescott type money. Wanting "top ten" money means 60 million+ per year.

This is not a fact. They extended the window and terminated their ability to tag him. I'd say that's far from certain.
Sorry probably should have stated that is my opinion of the matter. If Godwin was intent on being a free agent, he wouldn't have agreed to push the date back on his contract voiding. To me, thats signals he has every intent to want to re-sign with Tampa and they feel the same way. They were never going to use the franchise tag on him so that point is moot. If both parties were going their separate ways, they both would have let the contract void and he'd be a free agent as of February 17th.

Absolutely agreed and never said he's hands on with day to day operations. But again these big moves it's been discussed before that Stan will be brought into the approval phase.

This is what I recall. Those are franchise altering moves. We can't say that the decision to pay Stafford more money or not is in the same territory as those huge moves.
Potentially signing a player to $70 million a year can't alter a franchise? OK then

Yep. Stafford's deal is significant in every way. Every step of the discussion is significant, going back to last year when the rumors started or maybe even prior. It is possible Stafford started talking with them about this stuff after the title as the Rams are so tight lipped on rumors. But either way your owner is going to be involved at every milestone as well as getting routine updates as things develop and you can bet when it comes to saying "we're done with this" and moving to trade him his stamp is on it.

Back to Dart, if these stats are correct, this guy sounds like a fit with McVay

I guess it depends if McVay doesn't mind that it's a half-field read offense and he wasn't taught to go through his progressions and rarely if ever looked off his first read (though it's an offense that is all about trying to make that first read a gimmie). It's a decent pre-snap processing offense but then he didn't do any post-snap processing and either threw to his first read or took off. His lack of post snap processing (not even progressions) seems slow and he seems late on throws a lot.

Urban Meyers ran a similar one read offense and his QBs really struggled when they got to the NFL.

Also, tons of shotgun, so we don't know how he looks under center or really doing much play-action under center which one could argue is big for McVay though he modified it somewhat with some gun and pistol play-action for Stafford. Edit: Nate Tice reports he looked bad under center during Senior Bowl week and had trouble calling plays in huddle.

Not saying he can't learn but without something like crazy athleticism (I think his is only good) to fall back on, it's gonna be a steep learning curve for this kid.

This kid could possibly work in the NFL, is gonna need to sit and go to the right situation. I do not see a QB that has McVay traits except that he can throw intermediate throws well when it's his first read.

Maybe I'm wrong, I don't think he's a starter. I suspect though a team will take him in the 2nd and sit him for at least half a year (prob can't get away with sitting him for a full year) and then cross their fingers.

Sure, I think he sits a year if you want to increase his chances to become a player.

I wonder, if he is there at 26, even with Stafford back, do they pick him? Obviously McVay would have to really like him, but if so do you take him if Stafford is here?

I think he's totally there at 26. I'd be shocked if he's drafted in the 1st. I don't think anyone else is drafted in the 1st other than Cam and Shedeur and I think it will be interesting to see where Shedeur goes.

If you like Dart, you take him in the 2nd, maybe at the top but jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze that's rich. In any other draft year, he's be a 3rd rounder.

Below is a good discussion of him and Milroe at Senior Bowl. At the 7 min mark.

While it’s true we always want links when people post other people’s stuff, it happens quite often. Generally, we try to require posters to cite who wrote the article/info - which he did. So maybe not go so hard after a member as I don’t think he did it maliciously.

I get why you and many members grow tired bogus information. I do as well. It seems almost all the info circling around should have a “rumor” tag attached to it these days.

I think what’s worse is when people simply say “I heard” with nothing behind it.

Start “I heard” posts in 3-2-1…
Right. I agree, @Haden didn't post this with any sort of malicious intent, it was just an oversight. In this case it just happened to be even "more fake than usual" insofar as it was completely made up out of thin air... from posters on a different board who were joking around with each other.

I'm hoping that MS settles for top-ten money that is still "somewhere in the 50's" of millions. Here's the list of top 15 QB's in terms of Average Annual Value per year as of 2024:

1. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys: $60 million (4 years, $240 million)

2 (tie). Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals: $55 million (5 years, $275 million)

2 (tie). Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars: $55 million (5 years, $275 million)

2 (tie). Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers: $55 million (4 years, $220 million)

5. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins: $53.1 million (4 years, $212.4 million)

6. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions: $53 million (4 years, $212 million)

7. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers: $52.5 million (5 years, $262.5 million)

8. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens: $52 million (5 years, $260 million)

9. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles: $51 million (5 years, $255 million)

10. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals: $46.1 million (5 years, $230.5 million)

11. Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns: $46 million (5 years, $230 million)

12 (tie). Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs: $45 million (10 years, $450 million)

12 (tie). Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons: $45 million (4 years, $180 million)

14. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills: $43 million (6 years, $258 million)

15 (tie). Daniel Jones, New York Giants: $40 million (4 years, $160 million)

15 (tie). Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams: $40 million (4 years, $160 million)

ME: How about both sides agree to a deal that averages 54M per year and call it a day? That way Stafford's ego can be satisfied.... he'd make more than Goff and also be in the top 5. And Rams can still sign some free agents.

Thanks for posting. Interesting discussion. They do seem to like Slough... Will be fascinating if these guys get pushed up the board. Like they said, it will be a projection and it could come down to confidence or arrogance of a coach to feel they can get a lot out of these guys.

FWIW, I tend to get strong opinions on the draft that are only marginally informed! (I try to catch a couple full games of the prospects or positions I'm into and I listen to Nate Tice and Robert Mays and their draft guys regularly) and I will say I don't think I'll be looking at much more of the QB class, from what I've seen it's super lackluster (think 2007, 2013, 2022).

I'm not even sure a lot of these guys can do more than what Bennett can give us so I'm not really into drafting one to be developmental when I think their ceiling is a backup.

Now, TE I'm gonna try to dig into and WR some. I'd like to watch some OT but I'm not super well versed when it comes to offensive line in knowing what I'm really seeing. I don't know how much RB I'll watch cause I doubt we'll go after one unless it's a pass catching back.
Outside of defensive line, again, I think it's hard to really know what I'm seeing with defensive backs sometimes. And I'll believe the Rams will take an ILB in the first three rounds when I see it so doubt I'll watch much there.
