After loosing for 12 years with the Lions and asking to be traded do you really think Stafford wants to go somewhere just because they pay him the most?

After realizing how hard it is to win the SB with Goff, who is a really good QB, do you really think the Rams won't pay Stafford enough to make him happy?
He's already won a championship. He could very well be thinking more about his security at this stage of his career. Again, if winning mattered more then he wouldn't be asking for a huge contract adjustment. He'd just play for the 27 million he's due.

The Rams paid Goff and then had to get out of the contract early because it was bad. They're not gonna just pay Stafford and hope it works out. Especially since the pay raise will have huge consequences on what else they can do roster wise. We do need to upgrade the roster. We do need to bring Alaric Jackson back. It's not just Stafford's money they're considering.

Do we know if he's like fuck it, I won a Superbowl, I'm going to the Hall of Fame, and this is my last big pay day? Could be this too. We won't know the answer to that until the issue is resolved. His wife saying he wants to be respected and wanted speaks volumes to me about getting the bag. If another team blows the Rams offer out of the water, I believe he is gone.

This is the shit, right now. We couldn't even get to an actual number without all this happening. Now that we have Browns, Raiders, Giants and Steelers on the hook, we have an idea what they're willing to pay, so does Stafford. Now we just need to see what their compensation will look like.

Rams have two decisions to make:
- How much are they willing to pay Stafford
- Is the compensation worth it for a trade

Both decisions are synergistic here, if compensation is high enough, Rams could be tempted to trade Stafford even if they could agree on a number.

Gonna be a fun two weeks.

Let's say we can sign Stafford for 52 AAV going forward for a 2-3 years. What compensation would make you say no to that?

I don't think it's the 50 million. I think it's the length. I'm sure the Rams could pay him 50 million for a year or 2. Does Stafford want more guaranteed money than that is the question.
That's fair... though I have a suspicion there's a respect issue with the AAV that allows some breathing room with guaranteed money.

We can only take him and his agent at their word. And so far this is all about the money. He knows he has a few years left and it appears he is trying to secure as much as he can. Don't blame either side in this.

Perhaps. But I have the feeling if Stafford wanted a 1 year, 50 million dollar deal then it would be done by now.

That's exactly what I keep saying as well. I think some people are way to attached emotionally (understandable as we are all huge Rams fans) to see that big picture. When the FO is looking at this, they don't necessarily just say oh Matt has been so great to us. There is a lot they need to sift through in the big picture of signing future players along with what they are willing to pay for Stafford.

The harsh truth is Stafford's time as a Ram is coming sooner than later. It's going to happen one day. Doing it too late can also fuck us in the long run. That's where the complications are coming from.

If they let him go then it's because they plan to commit to a younger rebuild. Technically this has been said for many years now. Jordan rodrigue first reported in 2022 that the Rams viewed Stafford, Donald, and Kupp as their core. One is already retired and they're considering trading the second one. It's not out of the realm of possibility that they choose to just let the last one go.

Also, Jordan rodrigue already reported that one of the reasons this is being drawn out is because the Rams want to focus on their young core and don't want to compromise that for stafford.

Its also being reported he wants more than 50 mil per year which apparently the Rams don't want to meet.

Yep!!! Kelly wants hers. Can’t blame him,but time to turn the Page !!!

The Rams got what they wanted from him.IMO there is a new window opening up.Mcvay needs more control with the offense.

It’s time for them to start implementing The 2025 play book.
Without Kupp The Rams are already on the way for change.

It's Grant Cohn so it is what it is. But this is mind-numbingly dumb.

Oh, and fuck you MSN and your fucking code.

Unless you were 100% in on your guy, it would be criminal for the Rams to not at least see what these four teams are willing to trade for Stafford. I think this is a far more dynamic situation.

I think the Rams feel like they and Stafford are professional enough to go right to the line on this thing and still make a deal between the two of them with no bad blood.

Like I said, harsh truths require harsh conversations

I know ait has been said about the Rams balancing the ability to extend these last 2 draft classes. Well, if they give Stafford $50M salary/ new bonus for this year on top of his already pro-rated bonuses that have his current cap hit at $49M, that will impact their ability to keep Alaric Jackson.

Maybe they would franchise Jackson to work out a deal, but they can't do that until the Stafford situation is resolved. If Stafford is moved, thus no new money for him, then maybe they go ahead and franchise Jackson. If Stafford's cap hit jumps another $15M this year because of added $$$, then you can't franchise Jackson without killing your entire FA plan.
