I am a little curious about 'the fixed outcome topic'.

We had some long drawn out discussions on the NFL fixing outcomes to get the desired teams in the playoffs and Super Bowl to satisfy the TV contracts. Some of us argued that it would be easy to do because referees are contractually restricted from talking to the press. It would only involve a handful of refs to pull it off. It was right after the lopsided officiating when the Rams lost a close one to the Steelers. Networks want teams with big fan bases or teams that many fans root against. It’s best for business. Also we discussed how easily the Patriot taping saga was made to disappear and how after one meeting with Goodell the guy who taped the Rams walkthrough was not heard from again. They have the power to pull it off. Also they are designated as Sports Entertainment.

Once the Anti Vinovich petition circulated seemed that fewer games had the lopsided officiating. Did the NFL not realize until then that the fans noticed?

That’s the recap. It was a polarizing topic.

My whole opinion on the trade is we gave up way too much.

Matthew Stafford replacing Jared Goff against Green Bay in the playoffs this year would not have won us that game.

So any changes made that would allow Stafford to win that game next year, would also benefitted Goff.

Poor trade.

That’s a good point but with Stafford at QB in 2020, do the Rams win one or two of five losses in which Goff struggled (Miami, Jets, Seattle and both Niner games)?

That would have improved the Rams to the 5th or 3rd seed, and changed their playoff-path.

It may have lead to the top seed and a bye preventing AD’sinjury

Just one more win (Jets for example) would have gotten them even with Tampa who the Rams beat.

I believe that would have had the Rams at Washington in the Wild Card Round, and at New Orleans in the Divisional Round if they beat Washington.

The winner of Tampa at Seattle would have gone to Green Bay.

I think that’s right. Entirely different road to a Super Bowl. Might have been the same result.

Or do we lose games that we would have won with Goff and it all evens out in the end? o_O

McVay had to limit the offense according to the limits of his QB. The report is that he thinks Stafford will allow him to fully install his offense. If he’s correct then the Rams likely win a few more games. If he’s wrong then it’s likely a wash.

It's always weird when fans focus on one game like that.

Because if you do that, then:

Packers, despite having the best OL in the NFL, MUST draft OL early because their OL got beat by Tampa in the NFCCG.

The Titans need help on offense more than defense, because they held Baltimore to under their season average in points, but couldn't score - so paying Tannehil, Henry, the OL and having a top flight number one WR is fine - but they need more help because of that one game, even though the Titans defense was clearly their weak link all year.

The Bills need - a lot of help. They got manhandled by the Chiefs twice - they need OL, DL, CB and probably another weapon for Allen. Might be safe to say they're not even a contender because of how badly they got beat by the Chiefs.

One thing that doesn't get brought into question to much that I often forget myself is....how much fans impact the game. How much worse would this offense have been had it been a normal season? Especially Goff? When I think about it it could have gotten real ugly. He may not have made it through the season.

I know he has risen on the road before. I praised him for what he accomplished in New Orleans but this was a different offense/qb the last two years. So imagine this less confident qb/offense in stadiums that were loud and typically can rattle even the best of qbs/offenses.

Does make you wonder.

With all due respect, that is not a good point, that is nothing but 1 fan's speculation.

I speculate that Stafford wins that game. We were within 1 score late in the fourth with a hobbled QB. Stafford has shown throughout his career that he can engineer comebacks like that. Just my. 02

@Giles the offense seemed dazed and confused 60% of the time and Goff had a look of confusion more often than not. So honestly it doesn't take a genius to figure out that if he felt flustered with no fans or had a hard time reading defenses or whatever it would have increased dramatically. As well as if some people believe the offensive line was weak would have made that worse as well. They still had the same timeout issues as if the stadiums were packed that tells you something.

Was there not fans in the GB playoff game?

Some of these hypothetical scenarios are really pushing it in my opinion.

Tells you mcvay sucks at timeout usage. I'll bet you anything we'll see more of the same going forward.
