Just a thought that passed my mind in these long hours leading up to the draft, why aren't we talking more about the possibility of the Rams trading up to get Marcus Mariota? I've heard a few times now that we're having discussions with the Titans, yet no one seems to be talking about that.
Clearly, the Browns, Eagles, and Chargers are the teams that have been talked about the most because they're either more popular teams or have more to trade, but I could easily see us being the team to go up and get him.
My reasoning is that despite not being a very good team last year, we don't really have many needs, therefore we have expendable draft picks if need be. We don't have any needs on defense, we don't have a huge need at WR or RB, really the only area you could say we clearly have a hole is on the O-line. If we have guys on our draft board who we think could be contributors in the third round like Havenstein or Ali Marpet and sign Barksdale and Blalock after the draft, we could essentially trade our entire draft outside of the third round to go up and get Mariota if we wanted to. We've shown multiple times the willingness to trade up to get our guy and we were very close to doing so with Zack Martin last year.
If you're looking for the guy who's going to be a real franchise changer and take us from a 6-10 team to a potential Superbowl contender it's not going to be one of these so-so offensive linemen, it's going to be Mariota, imo.
What would you guys think about something like our first, second, fourth, and future 2nd (we have two next year) and future 3rd to go up and get him? That type of trade would make something out of not much in what we reportedly view to be a weak draft class while not mortgaging the future like the Redskins did.
I can really see this happening guys, let me know what you think.
