Just a thought that passed my mind in these long hours leading up to the draft, why aren't we talking more about the possibility of the Rams trading up to get Marcus Mariota? I've heard a few times now that we're having discussions with the Titans, yet no one seems to be talking about that.

Clearly, the Browns, Eagles, and Chargers are the teams that have been talked about the most because they're either more popular teams or have more to trade, but I could easily see us being the team to go up and get him.

My reasoning is that despite not being a very good team last year, we don't really have many needs, therefore we have expendable draft picks if need be. We don't have any needs on defense, we don't have a huge need at WR or RB, really the only area you could say we clearly have a hole is on the O-line. If we have guys on our draft board who we think could be contributors in the third round like Havenstein or Ali Marpet and sign Barksdale and Blalock after the draft, we could essentially trade our entire draft outside of the third round to go up and get Mariota if we wanted to. We've shown multiple times the willingness to trade up to get our guy and we were very close to doing so with Zack Martin last year.

If you're looking for the guy who's going to be a real franchise changer and take us from a 6-10 team to a potential Superbowl contender it's not going to be one of these so-so offensive linemen, it's going to be Mariota, imo.

What would you guys think about something like our first, second, fourth, and future 2nd (we have two next year) and future 3rd to go up and get him? That type of trade would make something out of not much in what we reportedly view to be a weak draft class while not mortgaging the future like the Redskins did.

I can really see this happening guys, let me know what you think.

I just don't think we have the fire power or the will to mortgage our future to move up and take him

Note: as I wrote this they're probably in high level talks to make the trade, lol

I would be less shocked than when we moved up for Austin.
If Snead loves him, I think we're in decent position to go up and get him.

There is still a possibility that Tennessee passes on him if they stay at 2. They could go defense or wr.

I can't imagine Mariota's value to us being worth all of those picks when we just acquired Foles. We might be close to having a complete team but there are still significant needs on offense to address. We are destine to fail if we put a rookie QB out there behind a league worst offensive line with a relatively weak supporting cast and less potential picks to assist him the following year.

I really hate the idea of drafting Mariota. I understand it, but I hate it. Running QBs rarely succeed in the NFL for a longtime. He reminds me of Kaepernick without an ego. I just think we need Oline too much. And if Mariota ends up being terrible we won't be able to get anything back for him. So no thanks.

Because we'd have to give up way to much to move up to number 2 to get him. Next question.

I'd love to see the move up for Mariota, but think the price will be steeper. I think it takes at least a 2015 #1, 2016 #1, a #2 in 2015 and/or 16 and that may not be enough for the Rams to move from 10 to 2. With no QB's currently under contract for 2016, Rams could well be in a worse place than they are now this time next year. This is the ultimate High risk, High Reward move.

Next year's 2016 QB draft class doesn't look to be much different than 2015, not very strong. If the Rams record is 10-6, 11-5 then they'd be drafting in the low 20's next year, which means much less draft capital to move next year. This may be the best time for the Rams to make a bold move for QB.

Keep in mind we only have Foles on a one year contract, and we have basically nothing invested in his future with the Rams.

I personally can't see us doing it because of whats already on the table by the Browns. They are offering both the number 1 picks they have this year plus a second rounder next year.

I can't see the Rams doing a deal like that or even beating that deal. I believe Mariota will either be a Titan, Brown, Charger, or Chip Kelly shocks all the Philly fans by trading the farm to get his guy.

I think we can beat them in quantity of picks, if not in quality. I just think the Browns are going to need their draft picks a lot more than we need ours this year because they have so many holes on their defense, basically their entire front seven. I just don't think they can afford to trade away as many picks as we can.

Unfortunately, it'd take a lot to move that far up. We'll see what they do.

I would offer them this year and next year's #1, and a #2 next year.

Having him sit for a year would be absolutely perfect! Give him the Aaron Rogers treatment, and actually DEVELOP a QB.

Fisher is going to have to win some games sooner or later though, so I doubt this would happen.
