So back in 1962 and '63 when I was a kid, 8 or 9 years old, I was living in a neighborhood with a lot of other kids roughly my age because the baby boom was in full swing. There was one man, Mr. Johnson who offered a tootsie roll pop to the kid who got the biggest piece of crabgrass out of his lawn. Needless to say he had over a dozen kids weeding his lawn with zeal. No I never got the tootsie roll pop, but about 30 years later I had a "wait a minute" moment when I realized this guy must have been pretty pleased with himself for getting that job done so cheaply. 2 cents, maybe a nickel tops.
