After lacking offensive firepower in recent weeks, the Los Angeles Rams appear set to get one of their play-makers back this week.
Head coach Sean McVay said Monday that wide receiver Brandin Cooks is expected to return to the lineup this week against the Baltimore Ravens after missing the last two games due to concussions.

“We do [expect him back]. He’s been in great spirits, he’s been in good shape. The anticipation is that he will be able to play this week,” McVay said via quotes distributed by the team.
Cooks has been eager to return and was able to get back to limited participation in practice at the end of last week. He had twice traveled to Pittsburgh for consultations after sustaining a number of concussions the last two years. Meanwhile, the Rams offense has sputtered in Cooks’ absence. Los Angeles was held to just 12 points by the Steelers and 17 point in their win Sunday night over the Chicago Bears. Robert Woods‘ absence against the Bears compounded the issue for the Rams.
Cooks has 27 catches for 402 yards and one touchdown in eight games for the Rams this season.

McVay: Cooks expected to play, Havenstein "probably going to be doubtful" for Rams-Ravens

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Rams head coach Sean McVay said he expects WR Brandin Cooks (concussion) to play against the Ravens next Monday.

"He's been in great spirits, he's been in good shape, so the anticipation is that he will be able to play this week," McVay said.

Cooks has missed the Rams' last two games, though he practiced in a limited capacity last week as well as the last practice leading into Los Angeles' Week 10 matchup at Pittsburgh. He has 27 receptions for 402 yards and one touchdown across eight games.
RT Rob Havenstein (knee), however, is "probably going to be doubtful for this week," McVay said.

McVay previously said Havenstein could miss up to two weeks because of his injury, and Havenstein missed Sunday's game against the Bears. Rookie Bobby Evans started in his place.

"(Havenstein) is making good progress, (but) to have a finite answer on exactly when he'll play a week from today is difficult," McVay said.

That sounds a lot like sending someone a message. Another outstanding game by Evans and this is going to get ... eventful. jmo.

Ravens are easily the hottest team in football right now and arguably the most complete. Their secondary very talented and deep. It allows the Ravens to blitz at will. This helps pick up the slack from a front 7 that is solid but doesn't overwhelm anybody by themselves. It's all predicated off its talented man-to-man corners and elite safeties.

Offense? Ravens offense needs no introduction. But I think the Rams match up with them sneaky well. Their WR's are not deep. They have several good TE's, Andrew's their 1. Unfortunately for the Rams, I believe the Rams D will be on the field a lot due to the Rams' stalled drives. Ravens are built to play the aggressive style of D that has appeared to give the Rams headaches for most of the year.

Marcus Peters isn't an excellent, or even good man to man corner. He's a zone corner and IIRC they wanted Peters to fit into their mainly zone, coverage scheme.

I'm a huge University of Louisville fan so I love that Lamar is doing so well so this game is going to be a huge conflict of interest for me. I'm hoping Lamar has a good game but the Rams win going away. Their WR's don't scare me(need to watch Hollywood Brown going deep) but Andrews and Hurst are very talented TE's.
Not me I hope Donald and clay hit Lamar so hard that they knock him out of his shoes and leave him gasping on the turf second guessing his career choice ;)

The Ravens defense is okay - statistically it's close to ours except yards per play which is a big indicator - and the reason for that being bad but their D looking good is time of possession - their D is on the field 25 minutes a game, ours 31.

I love our D but it's not realistic to expect them to shut the Ravens down. Our offense will have to go back to being elite for us to win.
I don’t know. I think we have to be satisfied for the most part of taking what they give us. Sustain drives and eat clock. I think our success right now will rely on winning the TOP war. We have to win the kicking game too. Their D needs to be the one gassed in the 4th Qtr.

.

remember back in 2003 when the rams played the ravens on mnf? in the opening sequence of the pre game show ray lewis was talking about how the rams were a finesse team and the ravens played real football.

then the game started. bulger was a like a little child in a room of full of mean men. he was just there to get a front row seat of an arse whipping the rams d gave the ravens offense. it was worse than that, the ravens were raped and beaten up on primetime tv. it started with faulk carrying lewis into the endzone then the d went to work and maybe got at least 30 turnovers and a few tds the rest of the game.

the rams showed the ravens what real football looked like and shoved it up their arse.

please do it again this monday night.

This game will be about containment. Containing Lamar Jackson specifically. I think we need our defensive speed up front to spy/contain Jackson as much as possible. Ramsey could help with that as suggested before in other posts. It’s an interesting idea. We need to ball hawk and disrupt Jackson’s receivers. Force him to throw under pressure without losing contain and pray we can force some turnovers. Lots of man coverage.

On offense, run Gurley often and we’ll Kupp our balls as needed to extend drives (it’s important to Kupp the balls.). We’ll gash them occasionally on chunk plays to Cooks and Woods (or Reynolds.) We have a “new look” O Line, they do look better.

Folks, we have plenty of weapons. It’s time to pull them out of the closet. This isn’t a game management type of game. It’s chaos and all out war, it’s improvisation. We need to leave it all on the field, OUR FIELD.

ALL the games moving forward are playoff games for us.

It would be GREAT to get Woods back for this game If possible. We need him. I also hope Weddle shines some light in how to beat his former team. I really think we have a shot if we limit turnovers (well, not apple turnovers, those are delicious.)

It’s time to win. The time is now.
LET’S KICK SOME TAIL. GO RAMS!

The real question to me is how do you defense the Ravens.
Going light so to speak, getting speed and quickness on the D side would make sense given Jackson’s tricks. Of course then Ingram will churn at 6 YPC.
Still I think the Rams will have to mix things and personal groupings up.
Run zone to protect from Jackson running and you run the risk of getting picked apart.
Run man and he will kill you running the ball.
Makes a guy miss Joe Flacco.

We have the personel to stop Jackson, if Wade Can devise the right game plan.

Lots of fast quick short defenders:

Weedle
NRC
Christian
Hill
Rapp
Ramsey
plus extra speed with Donald and Littleton and Folwer.

If wade puts Reeder on the field i’ll blow a gasket.

Going to be tough, Rams have never handled running QB's well, however, this is a good defense and if they can limit Jackson's runs and force him in the pocket, maybe he can make a mistake or two.

IMO, the Ravens are Super Bowl bound and this is an excellent test for the young Ram offensive line as Raven DC Don "Wink" Martindale (I think it's hilarious that his nickname is d arrived from a TV Game Show Host) is one of the better DC's in the NFL and again the key will be sticking to the run with some screen passes mixed in early and deep shots later.

The condition of the field could benefit the Rams, also I would have Littleton shadow lamar.

I think we have to blitz corners this game to speed up Jacksons decision making and also deter him from going outside (wide of the pocket). Line up in a dime defense 4-1-6 or even a 3-2-6. Bring a couple corners/safeties on controlled blitzes to confuse the young QB and match his speed. We just have to be disciplined up the middle when they hand it off to Ingram. Tackle well. And have Littleton and Rapp cover their decent Tight Ends. Their receivers are trash and can be singled up for the most part . We have a really good secondary in the making.

Jackson is an average passer. He gets alot of chunk plays the same way Wilson does, by throwing once the pocket has broke

The absolute 100% key if for the DL to bottle up the middle. Force everything to the sidelines - we have the speed to attack those angles.
