Jimmy Johnson definitely wouldn't approve of removing that test from the evaluation process.

Jimmy said - "Hit me in the head with a hammer if I ever draft a dumb player again".

It takes more than physical talent to succeed in The League. This test has real value to the people who are being held accountable for their decisions on who they draft. People in all industries are given pre-employment tests.

Sounds like the Player's Union lobbied for this. No way in hell this makes sense for the employers who will be paying the players.

Probably because some dudes aren’t very smart and think it’s unfair

There's been players that had really high scores and didn't pan out. So it goes both ways, I don't see the applicability. Interviews and personal behavior go a long way than some stupid multiple choice test.

It's a fucking tool. If some teams don't want to put any credence in it fine. But there is no good reason to remove a tool that gives teams insight to your mental capacity.

Probably the same idiots who think teeball teams shouldn't keep score.

Ridiculous!!!! .... to make a rule that you can't use tests that show IQ and general common sense thought process.
It's simply more PC stuff. "Don't put pressure on anyone to learn things or know things."

Case in point: Antonio Brown

It'd be nice for a coach and team to know ahead of time what kind of person he is.

Lol at some of the reactions..

We know how far scouting was come and laugh at other teams for using a slow 40 to evaluate Kupp.. but, somehow.. the Wonderlic is a crucial, irreplaceable component.

My dudes.

Shouldn't be hard for a team to tell if a guy isn't bright.

I really don’t understand some of the reactions here. First of all, from everything I’ve read teams can still administer this test during individual meetings. Secondly, it’s a general knowledge test that you get one minute to take. I think having an intelligent player is very important, but just because someone doesn’t score a 40+ on this test doesn’t mean they are dumb. Intelligence takes many forms so a person could have an average score on this test, but have great instincts and recognition ability.

I also think people are mixing up what this article is about. The Wonderlic isn’t being removed in official capacity because it hurts people’s feelings. They are enforcing rules about asking unprofessional questions during interviews like, “Is your mother a prostitute?” This was an actual question during a player’s interview a few years back. The Wonderlic is being removed because it’s just not applicable in an official capacity. Teams can still administer it if they want in individual meetings.

It's been proven that the Wonderlic has zero correlation to NFL success. Johnny Manziel scored a 32 and proved himself an idiot when it came to football. I've taken a Wonderlic as part of pre-employment screening and know for a fact that men who scored "higher" were far less successful than I in business. The Wonderlic is a tool by employers to discriminate "without discriminating".

I think it's time to let stereotypes go not only in the NFL but in other facets of our lives. People will always find excuses, but why make it easy and acceptable? Demonstrated work ethic is far more important.

Not so sure that's what it is for.

Show me where anyone here calls it irreplaceable. Or crucial. That has not been the conversation at all.

The significance of high Wonderlic scores is diminished as a result of the new 17 game schedule.

Wait…what?

I have seen plenty of " If you can solve this puzzle you are a "genius" puzzles on facebook

Teams should just use those !!!

Very good point. I was thinking the same.
And what will it be replaced with?
Some test where they show us JUST how disrespectful they can be towards coaches, teammates, and the country?
