Crossing my fingers that our strong d-line can make up for the inexperience at LB.
A.Shawn is going to bring something that our defense has lacked...especially since moving to a 3-4 scheme. He is a MOUNTAIN of a man. And he plays with tenacity and mean streak. At 6'4-335#'s, he brings what most 3-4 fronts need. that strong, HUGE wide body. Brockers is solid. He isn't great, but he is solid. The trio together looks damn scary to me. I think we will be fine and maybe even better than most think with Floyd and the winner of the other OLB spot. Give us a downhill Thumper paired with a decent combo (coverage/line scraping) ILB next to him and we could be pretty solid. The competition I see along the LB unit right now looks a lot better than it did even last year, IMHO. Yeah we will miss CL to some degree, but I still like the possibilities this unit poses right now as it looks.

If you think our ILB room is talented there isn't much to discuss. Cheers. (y)
Does it matter what we think? The new DC said in his 2nd interview that when asked about the LBer's on the roster (paraphrase), "most of what he needs is already in place". And, now after the draft, we see no ILBers were drafted. So, it seems the Coaching staff thinks they are good enough for now.

It did last offseason when we were concerned about the OL.

Unless you think public opinion never reaches their ears, which might be true--and might be a good thing overall.:p

This will be an interesting battle to watch (ILB). Kizer has had to wait and wait and watch so he should be amped up to play. Snead had heaps of praise for his workout regime and dedication to being ready. I loved watching Natrez Patrick in preseason last year. PS or not, that kid can hit the snot out of people. Kenny Young, Josh Carraway, Travin Howard, Clay Johnston, Troy Reeder, Greg Reaves and Christian Rozeboom make it a group of 9 for what, 4 or 5 spots? I am not a big Reeder fan though.

Since we come here to exchange thoughts on our team I would say yes. And it's cool that you feel good about the ILB group. Cheers man. (y)

interesting articles. Funny you don't really get any of the quotes that have come from the coaches and Sneed either praising specific ILBs on our roster, or the general expression of satisfaction with the group from our new DC. Just ramswire presuming the Rams don't care about the ILB position and will rely more on their secondary.

The words of the staff and front office contradict that though.

I reread what I wrote and now realize it came out with a bit more attitude than I wanted...... Thanks for not taking offense. :p

Gonna say it now. Based on how this D looks like it might be staffed, don’t sleep on Natrez Patrick!

That kid did nothing but make guys blow snot bubbles and make plays. He stood out inside and outside, but he wasn’t a fit for what Wade looks for in his ILBs. He’s a fit now and behind A’Shawn Robinson, he could have a breakout year.

Kid played inside at Georgia, looked great in preseason on the outside, I would take a look at him again inside as he strikes me as someone that would move well sideline to sideline.

Count me in as a fan as well. I love me some NP in our LB group. I like him even more @ ILB which is his natural position. We have lots of options here. And even though I loved WP as a person and respect his career ... his philosophy was very unsound. Guys played undisciplined under him, because he coached everything to be about getting to the QB. That was for the last era of football. the new brand... you better get back to basic fundamentals, and then have the athletes who not only have the physical attributes, but also the brain upstairs to read and react properly. I'm tired of watching defenders run right past the ball carrier on their way to a "sack that never was, LB's who wait for the play to come to them and DB's who only have eyes on the QB and let guys get open easily. Contain. Cover. Read your keys properly. Stay in position. Form tackle.

Defense is easy if you don't make it hard. Stick to your fundamentals and study film.

I'm a big fan of Natrez. You take away his off the field issues with the weed, and he likely ends up a 2nd or 3rd round pick . I'd like to see him get a chance back inside to compete with Kiser and Reeder, but I've been keeping track of his offseason work outs he's posted on instagram and it looks like he's grown into more of an edge rusher. The drills he's doing looks like that's what he working towards as well.

Either way I think we have a real young talent in him.

Patrick looked good getting past the line last year rushing but, looked slow in chase mode. He reported a 4.85 40 yard dash at his pro day workout. Rated only a 5.40 as priority free agent by Zierlein. The rating could have been lowered some with the drug problems. He was not considered good in coverage. He has to cover to play in the ILber in the base defense. He gets a shot but, I question if he is athletic enough to start.

Patrick was happy with his broad jump, saying he improved from a jump from around 9 feet, 4 inches to around 9-10, but 15 reps on the 225 bench press and a 40 time somewhere in the 4.85 range likely didn’t open too many scouts’ eyes.

I doubt he makes the team

15 reps in bench makes me a no believer. He is a tweener so he needs to be special in at least one area of natural ability.

Well I don’t think NP makes it with Staley as a DC. I have to look at the numbers better though .

He is only 22 & maybe he has improved a lot ? I just see The Rams drafted a couple players in 2020 that will make it before he does.

Btw — What about Troy Reeder. There is a UDRFA that made the best of his situation. He meant a lot to WADE PHILIPS defense??? Where is all this talent ??

Cory Littleton a UDRFA ?? The Rams traded Ogletree away under Wade Phillips, plus Robert Quinn.

Over who ?? Who makes The Rams roster I guess is what I’m asking. My numbers don’t add up with NP ? Is he a inside LBer now ??

Troy Reeder was The Man last season.

Bryce Hager is gone, but his spot will be filled from another 7th rd pick from Baylor. Johnson will make The Rams squad as a iLB before NP.

My cards are still on Lawler as a OLB over NP as well. Imo ??
