I suppose the Saints cant do much to stop a "Superfan" from pursuing some frivolous lawsuit but the minute someone from the organization starts crying about the injustice from LAST YEAR the Saints need to just pack it in for the year!

This is irritating, but I hope the NFL defends themselves. Show all of the missed calls in the Saints favor coupled with the penalty disparity

I think the article is on here somewhere, but I read an article that said the dude's intent isn't to do anything except get information. He just wants to know how refs are graded, if they get penalized for making these mistakes, etc. It does seem, except for the one random reg that got fired last year, that the same atrocious refs are trotted back out every year and commented for being so awesome.

I think it's a noble cause, even if it's from a stupid incident involving the Rams. The NFL published an article a few years ago about ref grading and they made it sound like the only time they countered the red as making a mistake is when a play was challenged and the timing on the field is overturned. If that's the case, that's a freaking tragedy and a terrible grading system. No wonder the refs would be regarded as nearly perfect. Out of the hundreds of plays each year they could only be challenged 128 times, and they would have to have overruled themselves (or if the ruling on the field was by someone other than the head ref, their buddy). The system is basically rigged for refs to get perfect grades no matter how bad they are.

So I support his quest for information. I wish there was a way to get it besides a stupid ass law suit against the NFL for something the Rams did.

Well, I agree with that, 1maGoh.

The idea that there isn't a public metric upon which to grade full time refs is obnoxious for the biggest sport in the US.

That all sounds great - but the reality is, there's probably a penalty committed on every single play. What should the refs do?

That's my issue with this whole thing - does this guy also want refs fired for costing the Steelers a playoff spot by gifting the Saints two phantom PI calls?

If we start grading refs for every single call that is either called or missed, it's going to get ugly fast. The NBA has done the last two minute report for a few years now - and for one game last year (forget which one), there was like five missed calls in the last two minutes.

There's an ebb and flow to these things - the Saints won the NFCCG in 2009 on a non call by officials which resulted in an apology to the Vikings. They lost the NFCCG last year on a non call that went against them. It all works out in the end.

I'm all for holding officials accountable - but they'll need some help. Probably starting with more officials - but then fans would probably complain at the amount of penalties called, when the players are the ones committing the penalties on every single play. Refs are in a no-win situation.

I'm just not a big fan of letting people be bad at their job with no consequences. Answers would be nice as to exactly how they are graded.

A real answer to the problem would make things worse before it got better, but that's unlikely.

What we'll get is a decrease in the appearance of the symptoms, which will actually make the problem more prolific. That seems to be really popular these days.

I believe they are asking for damages. What they are I don't know. I also believe the "group" wants the decision reversed. That won't happen. Respectfully I don't see this as a noble cause.

Of course they can. They can talk to the idiot superfan. My guess is they did not.
