What drives me crazy is they hand out these big contract to players and then fail to use them; Gurley and Cooks for example.

The laugh rating and my comment were not related. But I expected Gurley to be used about like he was so not I don't agree with that.
Also have made many comments over the first two years of McVays tenure here as people complained that TE's were not used enough it's beyond obvious that those targets would have to come from somebody else. Kupp and Woods IMO are better in the offense than Cooks so I'm not surprised about that either. While it's nice to have somebody able to take the top off the defense McVay schemes the offense so that can be done by everybody. So when you couple that with Cooks injury/concussion problems it makes a lot of sense that he wasn't used as much as the previous two years.
After seeing his effectiveness when given carries/touches, I’m disappointed in the way Gurley was used.
I thought a few more strategic carries in the Whiner game, for example, would have run some clock & left little time for a comeback in a game where the Rams held a road lead for stretches of the game.

The Rams are set to make significant changes to their defensive coaching staff following a disappointing 2019 season, sources said, with a front office shakeup also likely.
Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, who is out of contract in 2020, is virtually certain not to be back, sources said, along with assistant head coach/linebackers Joe Barry. The Rams defense has suffered critical breakdowns throughout the season and it has been apparent there for weeks that changes were coming, sources said.
Head coach Sean McVay has lost several trusted assistants to head coach jobs in recent years and will be looking to add veteran coaches to his staff after the Rams went from nearly winning a Super Bowl to missing the playoffs entirely.
Phillips has spent 50 years in coaching and has expressed an interest in continuing to do so in 2020. But the Rams are in transition from a coaching and roster standpoint, and without a first=round pick for the next five years and with player development vital, will be looking for ways to improve in the coaching and scouting ranks.
League sources said several scouts and evaluators are set to move on next year, and while the Rams aren't going to be making big moves at the team president or general manager level, there will be additions coming to the player personnel department, possibly on the pro and college side.
The team is limited from a cash and cap standpoint given how many record-setting contracts have been handed out in recent years, including to players like Todd Gurley and Jared Goff, who did not come close to previous production. With the 49ers and Seahawks looking set up to remain contenders for years, the landscape in the NFC West is only getting more challenging.
The Rams will move into their glistening new stadium in Inglewood next year, with both they and the Chargers struggling to gain a market share, and they'll be doing so with some noticeable changes to the coaching ranks.
I was excited to read this, but then I saw the name of the author. I'm not certain but I think Jason might actually be a chimpanzee.
JLC is a bullshit artist, so I don't put a lot of stock in what he says. However, I will be very happy if McVay lets Barry go. First, it'll show that he gets it with regard to knowing Barry isn't cut out to be DC. Second, I don't think Barry has done all that well with the ILBs. I'm not a Barry fan.
On the Wade front, I think the smartest thing we could do is what Houston did with Romeo Crennel when they made Mike Vrabel DC. They kept Crennel on as a senior assistant and had him assist Vrabel. I'd love to see us grab a young up-and-coming DC and have Wade remain on to help him with the transition. Now, Wade would have to accept that he's not the DC. But he doesn't seem like the type of guy who would have any issue taking a step back. Plus, his son, Wes, is the TE Coach. I would think he'd want to stick around to continue coaching with his son.

NFL Rumors about the LA Rams appeared almost immediately after the 2019 NFL season ended. Current beliefs about the Rams suggest the team is rumored to be changing up some talent in their scouting department, a vitally important area for team trying to recoup NFC West dominance from Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. CBS Sports commentator and analyst Jason La Canfora had a lot to say about the Los Angeles Rams in his December 28, 2019 article – Sweeping changes coming to Rams coaching staff, and front office also likely headed for a shakeup.
In that article, La Canfora accurately predicted that the Rams would be parting ways with defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. He also predicted that the Rams would be adding veteran coaches to reinforce the Rams coaching staff after several years of poaching from that staff by other NFL teams. So far, he’s running two for two.
La Canfora swung and missed completely in asserting that the Rams would part ways with linebackers coach Joe Barry. The Rams recently announced re-signing Barry to return to the Rams as linebackers coach. Somewhat of a minor surprise, as Barry declined a defensive coordinator role with the University of Southern California to do so.
La Canfora then aimed at the LA Rams scouting and personnel department. With no first round pick for several years in the NFL Draft, the Rams have made up the difference by finding NFL starting player talent from among the ranks of undrafted players. ILB Cory Littleton and DE Morgan Fox are two such players from just the 2016 UDFA class.
In his article, La Canfora cited several league sources indicating several Rams scouts and evaluators would be moving on this year. Immediately following, he indicated that the Rams would be looking to add to the ranks of the player personnel department, in both the college and professional football ranks. While we have not had evidence of this having occurred just yet, it makes perfect sense for the Rams to do so.
Without a day one pick, the Rams must focus upon finding their talent from among players other teams have overlooked or undervalued. Based on the Rams scouting department track record so far, they have been rather good at doing just that. But that type of proficiency requires a certain amount of “churning” each year.
New scouts come in with new connections, or fresh perspectives. Ultimately, modern professionals tend to remain in the familiar – same stores, same restaurants, and in the case of talent scouts – same colleges.
By adding new scouts with new connections, the Rams avoid fishing the same spots for talented young prospects. From another angle, Rams scouts also simply avoid overlooking talent at familiar schools.
So far , La Canfora is two out of three. We’ll try to monitor changes with the the Rams in terms of their scouting department to share at the first sign of new devleopment. As we had indicated, the Rams are not taking the 9-7 season in stride. The team is working throughout the organization to improve for the 2020 season. It’s a good time for optimism.

Snead's made changes in the scouting department before. If he thinks he can get better scouts why not go for it? They haven't been perfect. Scouting is so important especially when you trade a lot of picks for veterans.
