Glad we have 3 legit RB's who can catch and pass block. Hopefully McVay figures out a rotation to keep them fresh and clean.

Their health might establish that rotation for the Rams; but I think you’re right about all 3 being capable in all three phases.
Sure, one might excel in one phase over another, but no matter who’s available game day, or in on any given situation, the playbook does not shrink—and that’s a HUGE key to the McVay offense. He doesn’t want the defense to “narrow it down” based on personnel or alignment. You would think that’s an obvious thing, but there are a lot of teams limited to certain plays based on personnel.

Agreed. Both as a receiver and a blocker. That gives an offense some good options when he's in there.

Yep. Makes it harder for a defense to lean pass or run when all your RBs can block and catch. It basically gives the Rams another WR option on any given play. That's damn tough to defend.

Yeah, Hendo ain't going nowhere this year.

If he can do well in pass pro at the next level I imagine he will see more snaps than someone who hasn't learned that aspect. He doesn't seem to be afraid to take on bigger pass rushers.

What I love is the way his head is on a swivel. It's clear he takes the guy expected to blitz. Other times he's hunting to see who comes free (and picks him up). Still other times, when nobody comes he doesn't stand there like a tree but helps with one of the rushers. Dude apparently has smarts and knows proper pass pro.

His Pro Day results were solid. But no, he's not a great athlete. He is, however, a good football player. Intelligent, physical, skilled, and shifty.

He could work out. I'm just saying that those numbers jump out at me.

I see him as RB4 this year if everyone is healthy.

Agreed, but I think what you're missing with Williams is his ability in the passing game especially in pass protection. The other RB's on the roster, especially Funk, have no clue on how to pass block. Plus Williams has the ability to make people miss, turning a 4 yards loss into a 3 yard gain.

Now I wanted somebody bigger, however, I believe that Williams was one of the most versatile RB's in college and also might have been one of the best in pass protection and there is not a chart to measure that. In his interview, he spoke about having the ability to delver the blow first in pass protection, again, I believe he will be in the game on passing downs to start and stepping in front of Stafford to protect him is worthy IMO.

That's strange. Ekeler, with better measurables, was a UDFA while Williams was projected by most to be a mid round pick. It might have to do with how they played football instead of how they jump in their underwear. It would be hard for me to say because I've not watched Ekeler's tape and I've barely watched any of Williams' highlights.

Not being snarky, but I've mentioned the pass pro more than once because it's a big deal. I just don't think it's a big deal in the way you might. The Rams top 3 RBs all have significant injury histories.. if you have to throw a rookie in, the most important thing for that player will be to not get the QB killed. Williams lives up to that. But he's not getting snaps *ahead* of Henderson or Akers, imo.. and probably not ahead of Funk, who has some real explosiveness and a year of experience.

Again, I could be dead wrong, I'm just pointing out that he's very limited athletically.

Next year they definitely will need a QB. Frankly, Wolford looked like a JAG last year. That's why Perkins should be the #2 this year. But the Rams will have a decision to make in 2024 in regards to Perkins. I would hope they would extend him but you simply don't know what McVay will want. He's so invested in Stafford that IMO he can't see beyond that. Hopefully, Snead will retain his long term vision.

I think they will give Perkins all the reps in preseason again. He needs the reps and it also allows him to be showcased if they intend to use him as trade bait in 2024. I just dislike developing a QB for someone else.

Not strange at all, to me.
One went to Notre Dame, the other went to Western Colorado.

Maybe the bias in the process is about the school they played at and the competition they played against.. just a thought. Especially since I'm not the one who brought up the Ekeler comp. Like I said.. Ek is on another level as an athlete.

I agree with you on not getting snaps over the likes of Akers & Henderson, but I guess I don't look at Funk as an option as IMO, Funk does not play up to athletic numbers & Williams exceeds them IMHO. But in fairness, I've been tough on Funk and until he can play a full season at any level, I'm going to continue to be tough on him.

And this means what??? Lots of people are great athletes but can't play the game and vice verse. What do they do with pads on, the ball in their hand, to help players around them, to make plays, etc... He has been getting a fair bit of attention from pretty sharp people and then we moved up to get him. That says far more to me than how someone ran in panties.

If you look at that ND pro day chart, his measurables were better than Kyle Hamilton, he went 14. Everything is relative and I’m hoping Tyren has success in year one filling a solid 3rd down RB role in pass protection, moving the chains, playing the screen game well, and solid hands out of the backfield.
