Now I know I'm going to take quite a bit of heat for this and most of it will be well deserved, but the fact that Kyle Shanahan wanted Matthew Stafford very badly too, makes me feel even better about the acquisition.
As much as I love this trade there is nothing wrong with some reaffirmation.
The fact that Shanny wanted him and we pulled the rug out from under a 9er.........
Makes this deal 100 times better. LOL.
Also don't forget that the 9er's were one of a few other teams interested.
And just like the fans, a lot of these teams didn't realize just how good Stafford was until they put the film on.
Apparently Nobody watched the Lions unless they were on their schedule. SMH

One - what exactly did he do
Two - is it because he chose the wrong GM
If you don’t follow The Arsenal it’s really too much to go into. But it boils down to one he’s an American and a businessman. They don’t feel like he spends the money that the club deserves. And he sticks with people they think are bad hires too long. You can watch things like this for days and it has gone on for years. My fellow Gooners especially on that side of the pond are some of the most entitled and delusional fans.

Arsenal fans around the world would like a word with you and failing that a lynching will be planned. They hate Kroenke with a passion and blame him for everything.
Yeah and not gonna lie... When he took over I wasn't exactly wowed by him based on stuff like that. But I can only judge the guy based on his Rams' tenure and he's done a great job.

Fish was the top head coach on the market, sad as that was, at that time and Stan got him. And as bad as 7-9 every year was I gotta say it was a hell of a lot better than before lol.

Then the McVay hire he hit it out of the park. Plus the stadium solution that nobody else could solve for 20 years. In my book he's the man. (y)

Sucks to suck.

Sounds like Stafford's people told him to go out because Stafford knew where he wanted to go, and it wasn't San Fran.

A ton of us wanted Shanahan to be hired as the Rams HC when the early interview rumors began.

We all remember how Kyle was hot property based on his success in the league and what he did in Atlanta.

Listening to the whole podcast made me realize even more that Shanny likely would've been a jewel of a selection for the Rams.

It was great to hear Shanahan talk in that setting and see another side of his personality.

He can be so stoic sometimes and very plain in his media interviews with the 49ers.

It might have been different had Kyle somehow got an interview with the Rams before McVay did.

There is a real possibility these two could've been coaching for the opposite teams had the timing and dynamics been different.

I'm still pumped and glad McVay ended up being the choice as our HC.

I think Shanny is the best offensive mind in today's league. He's a hell of an OC. But I also think McVay is the best head coach for the next handful of years. IMO he's about to make his move into that super elite category with some championships and I'm glad the Rams jumped on him.

Is there any way Brad Holmes could have dealt Stafford to San Francisco? I can't see it.

If the 9ers gave the Lions what they paid for Trey Lance? Mebbe…

Word was they only wanted to give up 2X 2nd rounders. Even if that became a 1st, it was nothing close to what we offered.

What stood out for me was how Shanny wanted to go to a team with an elite QB because that was originally his most important factor but that process was overwhelmed by what he felt was a cultural fit.

Nevertheless, that part of the podcast really reinforces how both Sean and Kyle felt that the need to upgrade QB's was essential to both franchises progressing to the next level and how Sean definitely won that battle. However, Shanny will expand his offense with Lance and the 9'ers are absolutely going to be a problem for many years to come since Lance will be on a rookie contract and they can continue to build the roster around him.

Assuming that Lance doesn't bust. We of course know getting drafted high doesn't always mean a whole lot unless he translates from a good college QB to a good-great NFL QB.

They might be saving 20 million a year on the rookie deal but they're in the same boat as far as no picks for the next few years. And we have the proven commodity. We don't how their rookie will turn out. A rookie with less experience than the other rookies in his draft class.

Its a difficult scenario for them. What if Jimmy GQ has a good season? It might get them something better in return as far as a trade. But they would be moving on from a proven QB to an inexperienced QB. If they still have an open window next season that would be a tough pill to swallow if the kid doesn't play well right away and that is what kept them from making the playoffs.
