Source: WR Cooper Kupp to join Seahawks on 3-year deal

Former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp has reached agreement on a three-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday.
Kupp was released by the Los Angeles Rams at the start of the new league year Wednesday, ending his eight-season run with the team.
He joined the Rams as a third-round pick in 2017 out of Eastern Washington, as part of Sean McVay's first draft class, and emerged as one of the game's best pass-catchers from the slot in the years since.
He had 62 receptions as a rookie, then topped 90 in both his third and fourth seasons.
But his best season came in 2021, when he won the receiving triple crown by leading the NFL in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947) and receiving touchdowns (16). He made his only Pro Bowl and was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year.
Kupp capped that season with eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns in the Rams' Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals, which earned him the game's MVP award.
After the season, Kupp signed a three-year contract extension worth $80.1 million.
But Kupp has dealt with injuries in the three seasons since, playing in just 33 games. In 12 games during the 2024 season, Kupp had 67 catches for 710 yards and six touchdowns.
After the season, Kupp announced that the Rams were trying to trade him despite his desire to remain with the team. But with him being owed $20 million this season, no other team was willing to make a trade, leading to his release.
For his career, Kupp has 634 receptions for 7,776 receiving yards and 58 total touchdowns (57 receiving).
ESPN's Sarah Barshop contributed to this report.

I’m glad Kupp got a big contract.

Hope I’m wrong but I doubt he’s ever the dominant WR he once was.
To be a dominant receiver, you also need a dominant QB. So even if he is still as good, he would take a step back in his new team.

Honestly I'm not mad at Kupp for feeling disrespected hence why I say a lot a little respect with an lol at the end. I think people totally dismissing an opportunity to prove the Rams wrong didn't help out a bit are tripping. Was it the main reason to sign with Seattle, of course not, but even Kupp would know signing with a division rival is usually a big ass no no. Since he did, in the nicest way possible, fuck him and his team lol. Once he's done being a temporary butt wipe, we'll be here with open wipes.
Sorry meant open arms not wipes..... this is what I get for commenting all rushed while at work lmao

The catch-22 in this whole situation is the issuance of contracts based on past performance - that when the performance decreases, it causes the employer to cut the player loose. I'm sure it is all very complicated with the GM, player bargaining agreements and the agents involved - throw in the change in performance levels -- and then we have a mess that can't be worked out, except by releasing someone.

I never had any of these issues while working... I worked. They paid me. On occasion for good performance, results and good company financials there were bonuses and even trips to tropical islands.

But - we run in different circles than professional athletes.... :woozy2:

Not my favorite landing spot for him.

Then again; he’s eating a chunk of their cap space and the rest of the league wasn’t jumping all over him when released. He’s not the same player he was.

From a pure football standpoint, it certainly appears he could have done a lot better. He's going to a team with a so-so QB and no OL. I get his reasoning from a geographic/family perspective, but I don't expect to see a lot out of him on the field in the situation he's going into.

No animosity toward him, but for his own sake as a player (and not just as a divisional rival) I wish he would have went elsewhere, to some team where he could find a niche and provide some real value.

So it’s apparent you are having difficulty with Kupps departure. I think most of of us Rams fans are. He’s been the epitome of the Rams “We not Me” mentality for the past 7 seasons. With that said - the Rams decision to move on from Kupp (vs Kupp moving on from the Rams) is apparent. So while I am a Rams fan first and Foremost - I am
Choosing to wish Kupp the best and believe the Rams made a tough but correct decision.

Nah I get the departure and love everything Kupp did for us. I don't take it for granted and am thankful that we all got to witness his greatness and selflessness as a Ram. What I can't stand is him going to the bitch ass Seahawks so until his time is done there, I hope we beat the living shit out of them and shut Kupp down when we play them. I have zero ill will towards the guy and keep having to explain that I said I lost a little respect for him with an lol added to the end of that statement because I'm essentially making a joke out of hating on him and his new sucky crap team whenever meet up with those ca ca faces. I know I also said his decision definitely had some bitterness to it and stand by it. Honestly he's the ultimate competitor so why wouldn't he be? The Rams essentially don't believe he's the same player where he sees otherwise. He's going to be on a mission to prove the Rams and any other doubters wrong. I wouldn't expect any less out of him and suspect that he was enticed just a little bit more in signing with the Seahawks since he now gets to prove it twice a year against us. Outside of playing us, I could care less how his games go as I'm always first and foremost a Rams fan but once again don't wish anything bad against the guy at all. Once his time is done with those assholes, it'll be all love again though hahahahaha

Reason to choose Seattle; (1) his home town (2) more money than other offers

Reason NOT to choose Seattle; (1) they suck (2) they’ll continue to suck (3) they appear on track to suck more

Let's all hope the Sea chickens continue to neglect the OL. As most of us fans know games are won and lost up front.

Kupp has been a great Ram and I hope he doesn't ruin it for me by trying to ingratiate himself to the Hawks fan base by bad mouthing the Rams. Do it like Jalen Ramsey, Coop, and I'm good.

Kupp just does not appear to be that type of guy to me, Merlin. He just keeps his head down and takes care of business.

The reason this pisses me off is because I liked Seattle having that shitty culture of crybabies like Metcalf throwing tantrums when he didn't get the ball. Adding Cooper Kupp will end up being more than just his possession option. He will improve these other guys and show them how a fucking pro does it. And that is not a good thing. Smith for example I think is going to continue to ascend, particularly now that Kupp's out there with him and schooling him up on how to study the film and prepare.

To my eye the Seahawks need another pass game weapon and OL improvement to elevate themselves to contender status. The OL will be required to deal with our defensive front as well in the division. I doubt they can hit everything they need this year to contend, figure they're a year out. I have a lot of respect for their HC though, and I figure they're going to be a problem down the road. If they draft well on the OL they'll be a problem sooner than later too.

Cool article (below) about Coop and how he feels after signing with Seattle. Coop says he isn't motivated by "revenge" or "proving the doubters wrong." Kupp always struck me as a pretty honest guy, so I'm inclined to believe him when he says that.

Here's a relevant excerpt:

Kupp shot down the idea that he's motivated to disprove doubts about his age and recent injury history.

"It's never been about proving people wrong," he said. "I've lived in that space and it never goes well. It's been about being who I am, believing in myself and knowing that I can be who I see myself becoming. When I've taken that attitude, when I've taken that mindset, that's when I've always been ay my best. I'll continue that. I know how to navigate these waters. I've been here before. It's not about the negative energy of trying to prove anyone else wrong, trying to make anyone else feel bad about anything. It's just about being myself and trying to be who I believe I can be and going out there and playing the game I love."

The dude can still ball. Go look at his tape, when he was actually in the lineup, until about December. He was playing at an easy WR1 level. Not worth what we were paying, which is superstar territory, but still. The issue is that he gets dinged up, and is now really hampered by it when it happens, through a combination of age and injuries cumulatively adding up and taking their toll. I wish him well in Seattle except when they play the Rams. My favorite Ram of all time.
