Bradford, Tavon Austin and Zac Stacy all had my hopes up. Pretty much clinging onto any bit of hope those days.

I still like the San Bradford pick. I liked it & would still make that pick. The Rams needed a QB & he was the best option at the time.

—Wow Tebow at #25,Clausen @48,Colt@85 what a crap QB draft.
The Rams needed a QB & Sam Bradford went through a lot as a Ram.

Me of recent FAIL: Tavon Austin, Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez (non Ram). I liked all those guys, a lot.

5 Times Mel Kiper Jr Was Embarrassingly Wrong About NFL Draft Prospects

Anyone who calls themselves a draft analyst owes a great deal of respect to ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., as he popularized the art and helped push the trade on the masses. Having said that, even the OG of amateur draft scouting has some mind-numbingly bad predictions and takes.

There are too many honorable mentions to name, but some noteworthy ones include naming Seattle Seahawks flop Aaron Curry the top player in the 2009 draft, saying Detroit Lions bust Andre Ware would be an "excellent quarterback", and ranking Dan McGwire and Brett Favre evenly as prospects in the 1991 draft. Even with Kiper's long list of flops, these five stand out as the worst takes he's ever had.

5. Johnny Manziel, 2014

The Manziel hype was real despite the fact he lacked ideal size, arm strength, and pocket presence, to say nothing of his attitude. Kiper, however, bought in to Manziel, asserting that he should be picked No. 1 overall by the Houston Texans. The Texans got a few Pro Bowls out of Jadeveon Clowney with the No. 1 pick, while Manziel became the next name to find his way into the Cleveland quarterback graveyard after two subpar seasons with the Browns.

4. Mike Williams, 2005

Lions president Matt Millen famously had his heart set on Demarcus Ware in the 2005 draft, but changed his mind just minutes before Detroit was set to pick and grabbed USC receiver Mike Williams after he sat out the entire 2004 season. Kiper loved the pick, declaring Williams a "Hall of Famer" before he ever played a single game. Williams recorded just 37 catches in two years with the Lions, as his lack of great speed made him one of the most high-profile busts from the Millen era in Detroit. Certainly not a Hall of Famer.

3. Akili Smith, 1999

Donovan McNabb was a superb pick, but the 1999 draft unfortunately brought us busts like Tim Couch, Cade McNown, and Cincinnati Bengals flop Akili Smith in the first round. Kiper declared the former Oregon quarterback would be a "great NFL player" after some tremendous pre-draft workouts, but Smith's athleticism couldn't make up for poor understanding of the playbook and accuracy. He threw just five touchdowns against 13 picks in four years as a pro, which moves him into all-time bad bust territory. Maybe he should have stuck with baseball.

2. Andre Wadsworth, 1998

In this draft, Kiper had Ryan Leaf ranked fourth overall on his big board and that wasn't his worst take that year. While Leaf and Peyton Manning figured to be the first two off the board, most thought Michigan's Charles Woodson, a Hall of Famer, was the next best player in the draft. Kiper, however, asserted the No. 1 player in the draft was Florida State defensive end Andre Wadsworth, who went third overall to the Arizona Cardinals while Woodson went fourth. Knee injuries limited Wadsworth to just eight sacks and 36 games in three years, cementing him as one of the biggest busts of all time. Oops.

1. Jimmy Clausen, 2010

Perhaps his most famous bad take, Kiper declared that if Clausen, a former top recruit and star at Notre Dame who fell to the second round of the NFL draft, was not a successful NFL quarterback within seven years, he would retire. Clausen was the furthest thing from successful. He won just one of his 10 starts in Carolina, throwing three touchdowns against nine picks while completing only 52 percent of his passes. Luckily for the Panthers. Clausen's awful year allowed them to select Cam Newton with the No. 1 pick in 2011. Clausen was a backup with the Bears and Ravens before leaving football in 2015.

I have no idea how Kiper is still gainfully employed as a football analyst.

My list of failures is about as long as my list of successes. To name a few: Tavon Austin, Sam Bradford, Connor Cook, Trent Richardson, Jameis Winston, Robert Griffin III, Scooby Wright, Barrett Jones, etc.

Yea, but you nailed the hell out of George Kittle , who hung around until the 5th RD. Meanwhile we drafted Everett in the second.
I have nothing against Everette, Maybe he will come on like Higbee did last year. But Kittle is a freakin Beast. Rams did not pick in the
5th round that year.
Snead and company did a hell of a job in 2017, but can you imagine if we had taken Kittle instead of Everette.
That would have been one hellacious draft.

Los Angeles Rams NFL draft picks: 2017 round-by-round results, grades
How will the Rams use their picks in the 2017 NFL draft? We’re breaking down every selection below.
SI WIREAPR 28, 2017
Coming off a 4–12 campaign, the Rams have some needs to address going into the 2017 season. How will they use their picks in the NFL draft? We’re breaking down every selection below.
Here's the full list of picks the Rams hold in the 2017 draft, which will be updated as each selection is made.
Round 2, Pick 12 (No. 44 overall)
Gerald Everett, TE, South Alabama:
The Rams throw a curve ball with their first pick of the 2017 draft, taking Everett, a player cut from the same TE/slot receiver mold as Evan Engram. This comes one year after L.A. nabbed TE Tyler Higbee in the fourth round. Everett has upside as a pass catcher, but this is early for him and there were a lot of defensive options on the board. GRADE: D+
Round 3, Pick 5 (No. 69)
Cooper Kupp, WR, Eastern Washington:
This is another good one in terms of value, but confusing in terms of team fit. Kupp is a polished receiver capable of handling a heavy workload. He’ll have to prove he can live outside, though, and the Rams just used a Round 2 pick on a slot-type TE in Gerald Everett. GRADE: B–
Round 3, Pick 27 (No. 91)
John Johnson, S, Boston College:
Kind of a perfect mid-to-late Round 3 pick. Johnson has obvious bright spots in his game, including his ability to mix and match coverages. He’s also got a long way to go before he’s a complete product. Wade Phillips is a great defensive coordinator if a player needs development, though, and Johnson’s movable skills will give Phillips some options. GRADE: A–
Round 4, Pick 10 (No. 117)
Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
Round 4, Pick 19 (No. 125) Samson Ebukam, OLB, Eastern Washington

Round 6, Pick 5 (No. 189) Tanzel Smart, DT, Tulane
Round 6, Pick 22 (No. 206) Sam Rogers, FB, Virginia Tech
Round 7, Pick 16 (No. 234) Ejuan Price, DE, Pittsburgh

I was totally sucked in on Jason Smith pick. Especially after watching him walk on stage after the Rams picked him.
I remember thinking " My God that's a huge man" While visions of road grading danced in my head.smh

IDK, hard not to think Scooby Wright was not going to be good based on name alone, but all of us knew Connor Cook was going to be a bust because none of his teammates attended his birthday party....However, who knew that Cook was ahead of his time practicing social distancing.

I know, right? The name Scooby , just wreaks of ball player. Coach you cracked me the heck up on the Conner Cook bit.
Well played Sir.:ROFLMAO:

Claussen for me too. I thought he was going to be good but then I'm no draftnik.

I have a couple who were very highly touted by many, many others. One DEN mentioned, Vernon Gholston. The other I remember was Aaron Curry. He was supposed to be a great LB. Thank god he went to Seattle!!!

Part of me wonders what could have been with Sam if he hadn't proven to be so injury prone and had been surrounded with a better team and coaching staff. He actually started to put things together later in his career. He just could never stay healthy. He wouldn't have ever been Peyton Manning, but I think he could have been an above average to good starting QB had some things gone differently for him.

I would trade up into 1st rd to get Johnathan Taylor. Snisher took Gurley at 10. Just what I thought. Freaking Demoff & LES Snead. Gurley was a Ram only 5 seasons. So my point is getting that 5th is worth it in this case.
(F~~K) Gurley should have been a FA.The Rams could have Franchised him if needed?? Would have had a 5th option on him as well. WTF were they thinking ???
Makes me even more upset now!! Wow-doesn’t make sense. I posted about Demoff because of his contracts mainly.Could complain about a lot more, but mind boggling.
I still like Johnathan Taylor at RB & getting a 5th year. He could slip into the 2nd rd ?? Still I think he is a solid every down back.
I would never trade up for a RB. Not sure there is any prospect that it is worth additional losses to our 2020 or 2021 draft ammunition. Just too many holes to fill now & in the future.

Oh, yeah, I wanted to get Matt Kalil, and I was a fan of Aldon Smith at #14 overall in 2011.

There are at least 2 more NFL organizations that completely agree about Bradford.

He definitely had some great games in his career.

Justin Blackmon- was in love with him and devastated when the Jags traded up for him.

Tye Hill- was all in on this guy. He’s a huge part why I do t like midgets in the secondary anymore.

Ryan Leaf-Nuff said

Reggie Bush- Can’t believe he wasn’t in the league longer at a high level. Guy couldn’t stay healthy with his little frame.

Derek Carr- I still believe the Texans horrible coaching and crazy horrid o-lines ruined him.

Marc Bulger- Never thought he’d be anything but a backup.

Pisa Tinoisamoa- I thought he was the next middle enforcer/ do it all LB in the league..

Brian Leonard- man the 2 headed monster of him and Faulk? Lmfao yeah right...

The Texas twins Cedric Benson and Ricky Williams- Thought they were going to compete for the all time rushing yards list.

Alex Barron- I was estático when we took Barrón, a top T in the draft! This learned me years later When we took Jason Smith and Greg Robinson. To many warning signs with them.

Jonathan Cooper- I was so pissed he went to a division rival! Lol

That German LB the Vikings drafted?
-_-

Thought he was worth a late pick.. yeah..

Dre Kirkpatrick fizzled me out on Alabama CB’s.

Blake Bortles- Nuff said

I was a big Suh fan and narrowly wanted him over Sam. In the verbiage of LACHAMP46, Sam was a trailer, imo. He could be accurate, and he was hurt by multiple OC's with different systems that he had to learn seemingly every year. He got the OROY because of quick drop off passes, but then everyone adjusted to his game the next year...ahh, and the injuries.

Speaking of tractors....

I won’t take anything away from Sam Bradford. The fact The Rams never addressed the OFFENSIVE LINE was a joke. To think The Rams need lineman now is a joke as well. Of course you can always upgrade, but not with the lack of draft picks & the board. Add salary cap as well.imo

Entertainment is I like Johnathan Taylor & would trade up for him. My thinking is just that. It has from the past as well. When Snead made a trade for Goff the draft was over for me basically. I would have not made that trade. Thought it was STUPID. Still do if you wanted to win now. I can’t go back and say this & this with those picks.I just know Case Keenan & Foles we’re both bargains & could have been signed at a bargain. Then find a QB.You circle a QB. This year J.Hurt is a guy I might look at at 52 & for sure in the 3rd. We maybe even Les Snead trade back this season to get him at value ???

There are always players I circle that would fit & are underrated.By doing that it takes away from the misses.
I would have missed on that WR from Buffalo, but he wasn’t a need & would have past. Couldn’t believe Kupp was still there & then Reynolds as well. Both become UFA’s.I think the Wr class is solid in 2020 & unlike Merlin thinks I say The WR should be groomed. Reynolds is a Solid WR.The price is what will be the question.

When you need a QB, you go get him. Case Keenum and Nick Foles were never going to take this team anywhere. Why would we look at Jalen Hurts?
