The Longacre injury as well prompted a Plan B for OLB depth.

If the rams were hoping he'd be able to practice this week, I'd say he was closer to maybe missing a few games than the entire season.

A UDFA who got injured in OTAs and misses all or virtually all of training camp is much more likely to be put on IR than for a roster spot to be spent on him while he gets healthy and into game shape.

Curious @Akrasian, are you talking about Okoronkwo or Longacre? Because neither one fits your criteria of being an UDFA.

Okoronkwo is a fifth round pick, but your point still stands.

Obo was drafted in the 5th but I think its more about how close they think he is to returning. With what seems like a junior signing, that would give the defense 4 potential starters including Davis longacre and Ebukam. If those 4 stay you're probably right.

Sorry, I was going by SI's list, which skipped over Okoronkwo for some reason. As @Memento says, the basic point stands - a late rounder who misses all or almost all of training camp is not really a candidate to take up a roster spot. Once he missed the second preseason game I figured he was destined for IR

My guess is that we wait until after the preseason and then IR Obo because it will allow him to return if he heals up in time.

Yeah, no reason to IR him until the final cuts. There are others who have no chance of staying with the Rams who can be cut to make room for Galette.

Holy crap wad. I did a quick skim of this thread, but didn’t see the Galette belt video... it’s worth re-posting, regardless.

Someone please explain to me how this crazed belt-wielding woman-beater would be a good pick-up for the Rams...?

Woman beater? Lol that was a crazy situation by the looks of it. That woman was far from innocent as she rushed in and got her hands dirty herself. He had family members getting jumped I believe. I don’t equate 1 or 2 slaps with the belt in an all out melee as being a woman beater but that’s just me.

Probably a little more violent then most of us would have been, but he was getting attacked. Not sure what else you wanted him to do. I understand your concerns about him as a player though.

Very old news. That was a long time ago. As far as I know Galette has shown good character in his time w the Redskins and really wants to play.

Rams will work out veteran linebacker Junior Galette despite troubling history
By GARY KLEIN

Multiple offseason moves provided Wade Phillips with important pieces for a remade Rams defense. But the shopping continues.

Free-agent outside linebacker Junior Galette, who played for Rams defensive line coach Bill Johnson in New Orleans and worked with linebackers coach Joe Barry in Washington, will work out for the Rams on Monday.

There is a “good possibility” the Rams will sign Galette if the workout and a physical go well, coach Sean McVay said Sunday.

Galette, 30, has 34.5 sacks despite sitting out the 2015 and 2016 seasons because of Achilles injuries. He also has a history of off-the-field incidents.

“He’s a guy that’s had a lot of rush production over the course of his career,” McVay said during a teleconference with reporters, adding, “With some of the history that a lot our coaches have with the player, and just him being out there and being available and potentially being able to add to our rush, that was something that was intriguing.”

In a defense that could feature linemen Aaron Donald, Ndamukong Suh and Michael Brockers, and a secondary that includes cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters and safeties Lamarcus Joyner and John Johnson, the Rams’ linebackers corps is regarded as a question mark.

Veteran Mark Barron is established but third-year pro Cory Littleton is a full-time starter for the first time. Outside linebacker Samson Ebukam, a second-year pro, was the only defensive starter to play in the first two preseason games, a decision McVay said was made so Ebukam could gain experience. Matt Longacre, a career backup, is projected as a possible starter at the other linebacker spot, but has been slowed by injuries.

Galette began his NFL career in 2010 as an undrafted free agent with the Saints. In 2013, he recorded 12 sacks and 29 tackles for losses. The next season he had 10 sacks, 33 tackles for losses and two safeties.

The Saints signed him to a $41.5-million extension in September 2014, but released him during the summer in 2015, reportedly because of character issues that stemmed from locker-room and off-the-field incidents.

Galette signed with Washington, where McVay was offensive coordinator, but he suffered a left Achilles injury before the 2015 season. He suffered a tear in his other Achilles before the 2016 season.

Last season Galette played as a reserve for the Redskins and had three sacks in 16 games.

Among Galette’s off-the-field incidents are a January 2015 arrest in Louisiana for misdemeanor domestic abuse. The charge was later dropped but the NFL suspended Galette for two games.

The Rams originally projected that rookie linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo would begin practicing this week. But his recovery from foot surgery is progressing slower than expected. “We thought we'd be a little bit further along at this point,” McVay said. “How that affects his status with us is kind of to be determined, just because we've still got a couple weeks.”

Hard to see an innocent party in that shit show. I highly doubt that crap started at the beginning of the video.

I can't even tell what happened in that video let alone him beating a woman. From the looks of it, all of those people should have been arrested and charged, including some of those women.

Man my impression of this signing is there is a serious question about depth in that position.

This dude has a list of behavior issues. He was tased a year ago last April.

Hang on. Talk about an interesting off season.
