He didn’t do much in 2024. He was barely better than Bryce Hopkins at catching the ball. You’d think with Higbee out most of the year that one of the tight ends would have shown up in a big way. None of them were good enough to grab the starting TE spot though. And it’s the reason we all are saying the Rams need another TE from this draft.

And my original statement was that the reason the Rams wanted him included in the Ramsey trade was because they liked his blocking.

Isn’t it possible that they liked his blocking in the pass game as a move tight end and not an in-line tight end? He was praised for his blocking in ‘the coaches show’ earlier in the season.

No. He didn't do much in 2024. But I didn't expect him to given his injury history and the team just signing Colby Parkinson to a 3 year, $22.5 million dollar contract. Now Parkinson's so-called blocking prowess was also mentioned with his signing but sadly Long proved to be better.

BTW, there were spells last year where Stafford seemed to ignore wide open TEs.

Well of course. But it was only referenced as something to review if the poster I was responding to didn't believe what I said I saw with my own eyes.

That said, how many times have we seen a guy who has proven he can catch a football well in college enter the league and forget how to catch. I've seen hands get better. But worse?

Skowronek comes to mind. He caught everything in his year at ND, developed a niche with the Rams and then had some drops

I agree that what happens in college doesn't always translate to the NFL. I believe I made that point in one of our other TE exchanges.

But you can't catch passes if you're always injured and getting little playing time.

I don't believe getting open was the issue. Just due to the nature of the position, TEs can typically get open with minimal effort. And especially if the opposing defense has to focus on the likes of Davonte Parker, Tyreek Hill, and Jaylin Waddle.

Or more likely that I saw him at his absolute best in a small sample overall. It's like making opinions based on single games or even plays.
