That pirate face making "coach" Gruden can beg and plead for Olson to join him. We'll see what happens though.

Hey @CoachOlson ... you do know that the raiduh QB wears eyeliner don't you?

Would QB coach to OC be considered lateral?

Yeah if they offer him OC then of course Sean will let him go. He's gotta say no for a lateral move though, if he doesn't that's gonna pi$$ me off.

Its not like McVay doesnt know how to teach up a young qb. Let Olson go if he's called. Holding someone back from a promotion is going to do nothing but cause resentment and tension bw the staff.

The Raiders have not announced Jon Gruden as their head coach yet, but it appears a matter of when, not if. The ESPN analyst continues to put together a coaching staff, though he isn’t officially back in the business.

Rams quarterbacks coach Greg Olson is expected to join Gruden in Oakland as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator, Alex Marvez of the Sporting News reports.

Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and Cowboys special teams coach Rich Bisaccia are expected to become Oakland’s other coordinators. There also is talk of Rich Gannon becoming the Raiders’ quarterbacks coach.

Olson, 54, was the Raiders offensive coordinator in 2013-14 and the Jaguars offensive coordinator in 2015-16. He also has worked for the Bears, Lions, 49ers and Bucs.

Now why the hell would he work for the old Gruden when we have the young and non annoying Gruden to work for?

Right. We have the QB and the HC, apparently that's all that is needed. This is pretty much the first time Olson has been mentioned as a key figure. He can't be that important to Goff's development or the offense in general?

Later Ol(d)son. Way to be predictable. They may call you an OC, but u are nothing but a QB coach there as well. Lafleur will be next one team will go after. I would hate to lose him much more. Sheesh. Imagine how bad the poaching will be after we win the Superbowl!!

For me, it pisses me off all this crap coming out about Olson leaving before the game on Saturday. It's a distraction this team does not need. Freaking media!

Carr loves Olson. He raved about what Greg taught him in protections, and went on about it on the record in an old article when Greg was hired by the Jags.

The fact that Carr has slipped so badly in his play makes Greg a shrewd hire IMO. Congrats to him, and I hope that if McVay lets him go that he'll really get to at least run the gameplanning with Jon.

should not be a problem.... unlike Fisher, a young offensive coach would sell his soul to coach and learn under McVay.

Well, I trust McVay to have someone in mind to replace him. But yea, I agree that it sucks to have this distraction right before the game.

Yep i don't know shit. Last week I'm told by people that this isn't possible and now? Ohhhh what do i know.

Edit:
I have a feeling Gruden would steal some of our offensive staff if he came back.

Why the Rams offensive staff? And why do you think the Rams assistants would jump at the chance to leave. How is Gruden so much better than working with McVay? It's not like this is a sinking ship. It see m s like a great gig. Based on what we have read and seen in interviews, McVay is a popular coach. He is respected and likeable. He has a great coaching style and is a great motivator. His arrow is pointing straight up.

Again, why? This LA thing is going pretty well. Seems like McVay has created a great atmosphere to work in. And why Kromer specifically? I would never trade cool, breezy Southern California, for hot, humid Tampa Bay. Plus the Rams could block a lateral move and Kroenke could afford to get in a bidding war.

I think it was @Selassie I that was rehashing Gruden's time in Tampa. It was not all glitter and roses. He seemed to have unhappy players and didn't mind throwing them under the bus. This Gruden thing is like a fantasy. It reminds me of Parcells, but I don't think he can duplicate what Parcells did.

It has nothing to do with McVay not being good etc. It has everything to do about oppurtunity and advancement.

Who could advance? Shurmur to OC. Otherwise they would be lateral moves. And why would coaching under Gruden be so much more appealing than coaching under McVay?

I don't get the logic.

How about Greg Olsen getting offered an OC job? Or Kromer becoming an OC?
Hell maybe even Eric Yarber.
Also with 8-12 potential HC positions available this off season I'm sure a few of those teams will interview Matt LaFLeur, John Fassel, or potentially Wade Phillips.

After spending a year with McVay, and the success he's had, I don't think it would be a wise move on anybody's part to leave the Rams to start another rebuild! JMHO!

Unfortunately two things that don't work in our favor:
What you think or I think don't effect anybody's idea of pursuing higher echelons in their career and secondly there is going to be alot of teams (8-12) without a HC and plenty of positions up for grabs. I hope I'm dead wrong but have a feeling our offensive side of the ball might lose a few coaches.

I just dont see where any of the assistants will be HC material. McVay is calling the plays. Could one of the assistants land an OC job? Maybe.
McVay wouldnt have been a HC candidate if he didnt call the plays for 2 years

LaFleur and Wade would more than likely be the only ones that get a HC interview but with so many new HC staffs they are going to put together 8-12 new crews and that creates a ton of potential for our guys to be given a bigger opportunity.

I never said it's going to happen for sure but it is a fairly decent possibility.

I meant Olson, mistakenly said Shurmur.

I don't think Kromer is an OC in waiting, unless it is a Fisher scheme with a run game OF and a pass game OF.. LaFluer is the OC isn't he? I think Phillips is done with head coaching, Fassell was an interim coach and STs. What are his qualifications? I don't know, but if he gets offered a position coach spot, is that really a step up? I don't think any but Olsen are likely.

But, the topic was Gruden stealing Rams coaches. I don't see why it would be so much of a lure to make a lateral move to coach with Gruden. For one his legend outweighs his reality. Two the Rams could block lateral moves. Three the Rams have a good team/family environment, where Gruden had dissension on his Tampa team. Just don't see it.

Hope it makes sense now.
Career advancement is a bitch a tempting for people. Especially now a days is concern of possibilities of advancement at employers now a days. Its ALWAYS a concern with success, especially in the NFL.

So he gets the title without the promotion??? How about just stay here, win some super bowls, and do the same thing?

theres much much more to being an OC than just calling plays. not to mention a likely large pay increase. Im happy for Olsen, even if its not ideal for the Rams

@Corbin

? The one guy that I agreed could move up to OC is moving up to OC. How does that make me wrong and you so right? Or should I just say lame.

LaFleur was qb coach in Atlanta wasn’t he? Just sayin, it would be a loss but not insurmountable.
