I’m confused why people think Christian will start over Rapp.

because Rapp was playing Christians/Barrons position on Big Nickle. Now that JJ is hurt, Rapp will probably play JJ's role and christian Rapps role.

Whatever way it happens Christian will be on the field so easy completions will be had by the opposition.

Yo yo yo... time for the Rapp show.

Time for him to get down...
And plant a receiver clown...

You throw in his direction, you take the risk, Taylor gonna show you a Pick 6.

And a running back better not mess around Rapps going to plant you in the ground....

Los Angeles Rams S John Johnson III placed on injured reserve

After getting a second opinion on his shoulder, the standout safety looks to miss significant time.

And the hits just keep on coming.

The Los Angeles Rams have already been dealing injuries, especially to CB Aqib Talib that has him on the injured reserve, and now news has hit the Rams’ secondary even harder: S John Johnson III is also headed to the IR.

The “next man up” philosophy is now in play, as the depth for the Rams will most definitely be used after a brutal week 6.

There will be some help coming to the cornerback position with the addition of CB Jalen Ramsey. However, that also means that help will NOT be coming in the first-round in the next two NFL Drafts.

Back to Johnson, the safety initially got news that he would need to get surgery on his shoulder that he injured in Sunday’s game vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

As of yesterday, Johnson was reported to be seeking a second opinion. Coach Sean McVay said this about the injury: “That second opinion will predicate whether he’s available or he might end up missing some extended time.”

It turns out that Johnson will be missing some significant time. Rookie S Taylor Rapp could fill in during his absence, but the position is rather thin.

Let’s hope for a speedy recovery from JJ3.

Damn. Let's hope it's not too serious, like, say, a rotator cuff.

Might want to cancel the trade for Jalen Ramsey's if safety Marqui Christian is now going to replace JJ III in our secondary from this point on as starter. FS Christian's whiffing performance alone will cancel out having three Ramseys' on the field.

I am not joking here...... Christian will be one more serious issue to overcome. Wade will have 3 out of 4 new starters in his secondary. Eric Weddle will certainly earn his paycheck the next two weeks. I would expect QB Ryan to have his best game of the season passing this Sunday.

Rams should have drafted a safety with our top 2019 draft selection like Rookie Taylor Rapp.

Dammit. This one is big. @Ramhusker was just telling me last night that he was worried about Johnson and the lack of news.

We all agree that for whatever we think he’s worth, we’re still under rating him.

The best scenario involving the IR of both SS JJ III & CB Talib........ is having the Rams team hang in tough to win the last wild card spot with Christian/ Troy Hill/ Weddle & Ramsey as our starting secondary.

Then against all those bad odds have both JJ III & Talib come off Injured Reserve in January to start for the playoffs! Would that not make the NFL elites

A lot of hard hitting dbs are susceptible to injury. JJ isn’t aftaid to hit RBs. I wonder if it would just be better to play a guy like Howard as the SS and JJ/Rapp as the FS for this reason.

I get that interchangeable safeties are part of the scheme but neither Johnson or Rapp are very big to be hitting some of the harder running RBs like the Rams face twice a year in against San Francisco and Seattle. Chris Carson and Tevin Coleman don’t go down easy and It’s probably not a coincidence that JJ is injured after tackling those two in consecutive weeks. Both of the San Francisco and Seattle power run schemes seem perfectly suited to match the Wade Phillips defense. The Rams charging front 4 or 5 with only two, sometimes 1 Lber puts a lot of pressure on the dbs to make the tackle. Ramsey is an upgrade over Peterson in this area, but if he really does have a back problem then that is not good. JJ has been a sure tackler and I figured that was part of the reason to bring in Weddle.

I'm okay when DBs have gone to the "James Laurinitis School of Wrapping Up" instead of the "Dick Butkus School of Making the Runner Blow Snot Bubbles"

Survive to tackle another day, mates...

NFL Backups Who Deserve More Playing Time
Maurice Moton
Taylor Rapp, S, Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles Rams placed safety John Johnson III on injured reserve with a shoulder injury Wednesday. Based on performance, you'd think Taylor Rapp would slide into the spot longside Eric Weddle, but head coach Sean McVay voiced a different plan during Wednesday's media conference."Marqui Christian would, if that was the case," McVay said in addressing which player would step in for Johnson.

McVay and his staff prefer Christian. With that said, Rapp has provided moderate impact in a backup position, logging 25 total tackles, 11 solo and two pass breakups. Beyond the box score, he's a reliable tackler in the open field and possesses the awareness to cover the seam areas and pass-catchers downfield. Secondly, despite his capped role, Rapp has played more defensive snaps than Christian, 187-68.

The Rams may open the game with the fourth-year veteran, but the rookie second-rounder, who lined up all over the field in his preseason debut, possesses more upside with potential playmaking ability. We shouldn't be surprised to see him on the field a little more in the coming weeks.
