man the cowboys are butthurt about the zeke suspension. that's what happens when you draft dropkicks. skeletor should be more worried about how his hc allowed his franchise qb to get killed on the football field.

This is crazy, JJ is acting like an angry ex-girlfriend. Reading between the lines Jerry and Rodger aren't besties anymore and JJ is doing his utmost to get his own back after the Elliot suspension.

FWIW, I believe Elliot should be suspended, and getting the Federal courts involved was/is bollocks. The NFL should have the right to suspend any player / HC that doesn't meet it's code of conduct. There's just too much smoke around Elliot at the moment - the domestic abuse, the bar brawl, exposing that woman breasts (which he justified by saying they had sex later) - the dude needs to grow up, doesn't he realise he's supposed to be a role model, and in a position of privilege! Dick.

while many people assume this is about zeke, which may or may not be the case, I think everyone can agree Goodell's reported demands in contract talks are a bit absurd. so who knows, maybe it is about more than zeke

Man, this could get spicy. It’s a huge article so I didn’t paste it all. But here is a snip;

http://www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/...w-coming-led-dallas-cowboys-owner-jerry-jones

Roger Goodell has a Jerry Jones problem and nobody knows how it will end

Adhering to the protocol of giving owners a 48-hour heads-up before a major disciplinary issue involving their team is announced, Goodell and Pash informed Jones that after a 13-month domestic violence inquiry, the Dallas Cowboys' star running back, Ezekiel Elliott, would face punishment -- a six-game suspension.

The line went quiet. Seconds passed. Goodell's decision was an unconscionable violation of trust, Jones later told associates, because he believed that the commissioner had assured him this past spring that there would be no suspension. Jones saw in Elliott a genuine opportunity, a player so good that he had made Jones believe that this year he just might win a Super Bowl for the first time since 1996. His anger was palpable. Finally, according to sources with direct knowledge of the call, Jones broke the silence. He aimed his words not only at Goodell's decision but also at his role as judge, jury and executioner in the case.

"I'm gonna come after you with everything I have," Jones said. Then he mentioned Deflategate. "If you think Bob Kraft came after you hard, Bob Kraft is a p---y compared to pwhat I'm going to do."

Report: NFL owner approaches NBA commissioner about succeeding Goodell

The NFL is currently embroiled in about 100 different scandals and media brouhahas at the moment, and it has led some owners -- most notably including, but not necessarily limited to Jerry Jones of the Cowboys -- to consider replacements for commissioner Roger Goodell. This isn't something any of them other than Jones are thinking about making happen right away, but further down the line. (They all want Goodell's help on the 2021 CBA negotiations.)

Within a fairly explosive story detailing the relationship between Jones, Goodell, and the other NFL owners, ESPN's Don Van Natta and Seth Wickersham reported that one owner had somebody reach out to NBA commissioner Adam Silver to see if he would be interested in stepping into Goodell's seat whenever it's vacated. Likely to their surprise, Silver immediately said no to the overture.

It's interesting that the NFL would turn to the NBA for leadership, especially because, elsewhere in the story, Van Natta and Wickersham reported that this happened last year:

Last year, TV ratings declined and anxiety mounted. Many owners concluded that former Pepsi executive Dawn Hudson, whom Goodell hired as the league's chief marketing officer, was providing analysis that was too optimistic. At an October 2016 league meeting in Houston, Hudson and Lockhart presented a slide that showed different variables measuring the popularity of the major sports leagues. At the top was the NFL. Various others, including Major League Soccer, were labeled "up-and-coming." At the bottom, under the category of "eroding," was the NBA, which had just signed a $24 billion TV deal with ESPN and TNT and was coming off its most watched Finals since 1998.

The idea that the NBA is eroding and the NFL is unimpeachable at the top of the food chain sounded like bunk to at least one owner, who asked another, "Do you buy this bulls--t?" Maybe the rise in the league's popularity and explosion of its TV money is part of what motivated an owner to reach out to Silver.

The major reason I think the NFL is the most effed up is it still allows all this musical-cities franchise removal nonsense. Spitting in the face of the core fans that make it all go. They shouldn't be allowed to market themselves as associated with cities/locales until this stops.

Exactly. I'm glad McSnead have the foresight and intelligence to seek out character guys. We are already benefiting from this culture change imo.

This isn't going away. They are going to pay him 46 Million a year plus a Jet forever. Wow!

I don't know if you can blame everything bad that's happening with the NFL on Goodell. TV ratings lower when big markets have bad teams plus big star injures and the free streaming. The big picture is the next contract 2021 and if Goodell is the best candidate to get it done. Network ratings are down more than NFL. Still the biggest watched sporting events on TV.

Roger Goodell reportedly preparing to fine Jerry Jones 'millions of dollars'

Jerry Jones wasn’t happy Roger Goodell suspended Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott. Jones tried to block Goodell’s extension. Goodell is now reportedly preparing to fine Jones “millions of dollars.”

Jones has said his decision to fight Goodell’s extension was nothing personal, and likely at some point after Jones is fined Goodell will say it’s nothing personal either. But it’s hard to take it any other way. The NFL commissioner and the NFL’s most powerful owner are in a major spat, and the next step is a major one.The New York Times’ Ken Belson reportedGoodell is preparing to hand Jones a seven-figure fine. Belson said that news came from five league sources.

On what grounds does Goodell have to fine Jones so heavily? Jones is being fined for his efforts to stop Goodell’s contract extension and for his defense of Elliott, The Times said. According to The Times, Goodell will claim Jones’ actions were detrimental to the league. That seems like a broad enforcement of that rule, especially for such a large fine. It will be very interesting to see if Jones fights it, assume the NFL follows through on the punishment. Jones has never been one to back down. The Times’ story said Jones will also be ordered to pay legal fees from the compensation committee, which Jones said he was prepared to sue over Goodell’s extension, and legal expenses the NFL racked up defending itself in court over the Elliott suspension. Belson wrote the punishment of Jones comes “with the support of many NFL owners,” and one has to wonder if Jones’ growing power hasn’t sat well with some of them.

Also curious is why this story is being leaked out now. The story said the fine is expected to be announced “in coming weeks.” For some reason, multiple sources wanted it out now. That gives Jones time to think about it, and perhaps contemplate what to do. A Cowboys spokesman told The Times the team was unaware of the upcoming penalties. But for some reason people aware of the situation wanted the news broken by a major outlet now.

The Goodell-Jones relationship is obviously in a pretty bad way. And if the NFL follows through on the punishment that it told The Times about Monday, it’s about to get a lot worse.

Millionaires & billionaires acting like millionaires & billionaires. These guys play by a different set of rules than we do, or should I just say they don't believe any rule really applies to them. Hey, if I were a billionaire, i'd probably push a few things to the limit myself. jmo.
