I don’t see anyone giving him a pass.

CJF does get credit for some draft success and moved the football team to LA, part of why he was hired.

So you heard him give any credit to Les Snead for the players drafted? Yeah, I didn't either.

Fisher definitely brought us out of the absolute ditch he found us drunk in.

From there, I continued to believe until the last year, when it was clear things had run their course. I think he's a good coach from an era of football that's over. Watched the 2011 NFC championship game between the 49ers and the Giants. Such a slog. Reminded me that anyone hating on Goff is just a narrative-driven fool. Miles better than Eli or Alex Smith, and not even 25.

Anyway. Got love for Coach Fish. He did what he came in to do, and maybe he stayed a little long, but he's part of the family. He's part of the god damn family, alright?

Good interview, glad he takes responsibility for his inept ability to get the Rams going. One thing i was thinking about the other day, Fisher drafted Goff, Donald, Gurley, Hekker and Zuerlein. 5 of the best players at their position and 3 who can be HOF players if they continue on their projection. As much as i give him crap, he did put McVay in a good spot when he came here.

Hekker was Mcvay & Bones !! He went undradted. The Leg Fisher was involved. Brockers was the first for RG111. Snead has always been good at getting it done.

Fisher could spot talent. No question.

Fisher could coach a defense.

His downfall was his outdated, ball control, play it safe offfensive philosophy.

Or as some have called it, his stubbornness or his ego.

Notice how Mcvay lets Wade have complete control of the defense.

Let’s add Kevin Demoff to all this as well. Then let’s talk about how they both played dumb ?? At least Demoff gets the game. Fisher should either do a coke or sinus commercial. Fisher still has a big ego.

We've had worse coaches than Fisher. He wasn't a bad talent evaluator. He was just a micromanager who refused to adapt to the NFL. But he brought us Goff and Donald and led us to McVay. It's too bad the guy couldn't get out of his own damn way.

It tells you the bigger need at the time was the O line. AD was a surprise to everyone. We're lucky Fisher always had a thing for the defense.

not to be argumentative, and not to underestimate Snead, but throughout Fisher’s tenure it was consistently reported that he was the final authority on personal. At the least it seems likely it was a collective approach, as I think it probably is also with McVay. But you may know more than I do.

It was a collective approach. Rams expanded and put more resources into their scouting department and Fisher had his assistant coaches going to Pro Days and conducting interviews at the combine. He had final say over his roster. He had enough influence in the draft that another Vince Young wasn't going to be forced on him. The Mike Silver articles paint a good picture of what was going on in the Rams room on draft day. The rest of it, Fisher takes credit for the picks that panned out and distances himself from the ones that didn't. In his interview with 710 LA after he was fired, they questioned him about drafting Brian Quick and Greg Robinson. He responded by saying he wasn't in the film room grinding tape.

"If the opportunity comes up, I’ll be working very, very closely with the GM, who I would hope would be my boss and let me coach, and make the decisions, make the personnel decisions and the day-to-day stuff that needs to get done".....Fisher said he initially took the job because he liked the owner, Stan Kroenke, and he liked the quarterback, Sam Bradford. At the time, Fisher was expected to have a major say in personnel decisions. But on Wednesday, he called that a collaborative process, saying he did not have time to “tell someone which guard to take in the sixth round” and also did not negotiate contracts.....

Just watched it. While I was never one to bash the stache, I do get irritated listening to him talk....always have. Its that annoying way he draws out words....almost like he is buying time to make sure he is not saying something stupid.

He's a good coach and could be a DC in a minute if he could relax his ego and throw his hat in the ring for it. Not sure about the comment at the end about being as good as your assistant coaches. It was almost as if he was trying to take the shine off McVay while at the same time offering an excuse as to why he failed.

Reflecting on Fishers career he reminds me of the the corporate golden boy that comes in all shiny and new. Does a couple of good things then finds a side office and sucks on the the company tit for the next 25 years. Coasting on past laurels. He can talk the talk.

Fisher was just too hard headed and stubborn for his own good. He refused to change with the times, he was best suited to coach in the 70's or 80's.

I liked the interview, but it kind of sounded like a job interview toward the end. I know Fisher wants back in the game. He loves the sport.

Does anyone know why Schotty left? Fisher said it was for personal reasons, but it felt like for a second, he was going to spill the beans. Much respect for keeping what is said in the locker room.

He did’t give obvious connection between any drafting success from his tenure to Sean McVay’s. It’s an utterly obvious connection, that it’s glaring that he didn’t mention Les Snead at all when discussing the acquisition of team members. He is using “we” in this context to avoid giving Les Snead the credit he deserves. Fisher is a terminated employee, and the guy he helped select as his boss outlasted him. That’s gotta burn.

Fisher's downfall was his failure to delegate authority and trust in his coaches and his failure to realize he needed a veteran presense on his 53 man roster. He had to micro manage everything. Almost every year he was HC of the Rams, they were the youngest team in the league.
