I agree with everything you said, including the bolded. The only problem? Carlton was traded to the Phillies when Gibby's career was winding down. I will never forgive the 70s Cardinals management for trading him over a fucking paycheck.

I remember those Philly teams as I was a young kid who LOVED baseball then

Carlton on the mound, Bob Boone at C, Pete Rose at 1st, Larry Bowa at SS, Mike Schmidt at 3rd, Greg Luzinski, Garry Maddox and my favorite name in all of baseball, Bake McBride in the OF and Tug McGraw was the closer.

When I was 10, my uncle who was a long haul trucker got be a BOX of both baseball cards and football cards AND the Topps card holders for each.

I still have them, none in great condition because we played with them (as kids are want to do and I wouldn't change a thing).

After that Christmas, I memorized every single starting lineup in MLB as well as most pitchers.

When I found out later that someone traded Carlton away... I was shocked. Who trades a HOF pitcher in his prime? I mean especially before FA and any kind of salary cap?

Imagine what the talking heads would have said if we hadn't signed him? Now they'll claim we overpaid, but remember this year is also wrapped into the contract.

The contract was always only about timing and a current assessment of market price, which the Rams have always been willing to pay for the players they really want. Credit to the Rams front office and Ramsey for agreeing on the process and following through to get it done.

Top notch job! And the Rams continue to make themselves one of the teams players will most want to play for.
Don't forget. The owner has to sign off on these signing bonuses. He has to be able to front the money. This gives the rams way more space and wiggle room in the cap. Other owners can't or won't and it becomes a problem when they want to keep a player.

Kentucky fried crow and waffles? Just saying, that's the best crow I've tried.

What alternative would you have to offer?

Well there ya go. Salary cap relief via extension. Assumed that but $7.5 million was more than I thought. Now let’s use it by signing Kupp. :)

Let's do the same with kupp and sign Warford!!! Lolol biased and greedy what can I say.
Btw different note stating the obvious here and it breaks my heart but loading up on defensive backs safeties especially signals the end of JJ to me which saddens me. I do realize we cannot keep them all though we shall see.

Cap clearance now isn't the issue as much as cap clearance next year. Cap space now if rolled over will help and there should be enough to sign Kupp early and Floyd next year. Clarity on the cap is needed before they can sign Floyd, Ebukam, and Everett players they would like to keep. I have no doubt that they will sign Floyd to a long term extension. In another offensive system, Everett could be a star player so the competition for him will be tough. Ebukam is likely to attract major interest as well but it will come down to how strong is his desire to stay and that will be the deciding factor IMO.

The Ramsey contract is exactly what I've been talking about. Ramsey took a huge discount this year to clear additional cap. His cap hit next year is basically the same as the dead cap hit for Cooks is this year. If they take this new cap space and add it to additional space they can clear by releasing Whitworth and Havenstein they will have the money they need to extend at least Floyd. Creative structuring of Ebukam's potential extension should also be workable. It's all about the guaranteed money which is a huge incentive for players to accept less now for more overall. Ramsey's contract shows they look at him exactly how I thought they would when they first signed him. He's the AD or the secondary. They saw how much of an impact Talib had in 2018 by taking away the opposition's best receiver. With the Ram depth at safety, this secondary could be a turnover machine.

I also expect them to extend Woods for basically another 3 years with a new 4-year contract. His contract would look to be the easiest of all the extensions.

As long as these guys stay healthy these big contracts are necessary and can be carried. It only becomes a burden if they are carried as dead cap or some reason. These extensions are big money bets that these guys will stay healthy and productive. In Jalen's contract, they are betting he will be here long term but they do have a potential out in 2023 so it's basically a 3-year bet. This is a well structured contract for an elite player.

Having said what I said above I'm looking big picture for Rams and it stings but the jets got a boat load for Adams. I know he is signed for a year but he is demanding corner money me being in New York this was all the talk. Does anyone think the Rams are contemplating a JJ trade with all the collecting of defensive backs via draft and practice squad etc.? And if they were to trade him what does everyone think the Rams could get? JJ to me is just as impactful as Adams and don't let Adams sacks fool you jets had no pass rush so constantly sending him in for the odd sack. They would have to do better than a 3rd round comp to let him just walk. And the jets got like a Kalil Mack type deal with a decent player.

Thoughts????

Ramsey didn't take a discount this year. They just changed his pay from base salary to mostly bonus which can be spread out over the life of the contract cap wise. He is actually receiving more $$ this yr.

I don't see them keeping Floyd.

Either he disappoints and they won't want him, or he has a great yr and they can't afford him.

I think its time they develop guys like Obo, Polite, Hollins, & Lewis.

It will be Kupp and maybe one lesser guy at best or franchise JJ for one yr while the young safeties get time to develop.

Nah, I don't have syrup. Whipped cream would be fantastic, like what @ReekofRams said. :D
