I believe that Reynolds is under contract in 2020 for about $900,000.

Problem is that Reynolds almost certainly won't be re-signed after next season, whereas Cooks is already under contract. I'd be fine with him playing more, but he just can't be in the future plans.
I would prefer that Josh Reynolds be in our future plans & since Goff can not effectively get the ball into Cooks hands via deep passes that he was signed to be utilized then he (Cooks) should not be in our future plans.

What is the cap hit?

I think you covered it before but, I can't remember. If you could give us the numbers over the next two or three years that would be great. You really know how to break it down. Many of us want to see the cap hits and when the best options are to cut him if necessary. The bottom line is when can the Rams save money by cutting if need be. The numbers here on spotrac seem very high and are a bit confusing to me with the $3.4Million options. Thanks.

Thanks.

It seems to me that the $5M CAP LOSS in 2020 would not be desirable in 2020.

You read all the cut him/trade him posts and have to consider the cap/cost implications that the Rams must consider. It's something the Rams have time to consider. Thanks

Great info!
Question: How did you learn all of this? Did you read this somewhere or have you worked for the NFL in some capacity? Thats top tier knowledge of salary cap ramifications which most normal fans arent aware of

JRey adds that catch radius you don't get with Cooks. But he's got his flaws too, notably that he doesn't get much separation.

I do think they will start to work him in more in place of Cooks. But tbh the Rams' offense is probably better served with 12 personnel in a lot of those situations too because it helps them run the ball.

So I don't really see JRey being a big improvement for us. Although I will say I like him running those sweeps, he's a big boy and tougher for the DBs to bring down.

If the Rams plan to bring Whitworth back, and they can get him for a discount - I would suggest cutting ties with Cooks, and try to extend Reynolds who will come much cheaper.

With more TE involvement on the horizon, I really don't see how Cooks fits in here at his price tag. He could be tradable, but with his concussion history I doubt we'd get much.

I can't believe were arguing for the horizonal passing game. Without Cooks, coverage is a whole lot tighter across the board.

That thinking is way above my pay grade. LOL. The Rams don't seem to move A lot of money around. With o26 Mil in cap next year send they need the space. Rams have time to work it out.

Cooks does have a health concern, but he is what he is, which is a reliable deep threat. Reynolds has not shown the consistent ball adjustments that Cooks has. Reynolds has the size you want in a red zone target (but we havent seen the results). finally Cooks production has been mirrored the decline in the passing game as a whole due to offensive line woes. the reinvention of the short roll out passing game has immediately helped the other receivers. it will trickle down to Cooks.

I'm concerned that Goff doesn't trust him. There are plays where Jared sees him but elects not to go to him even when he's got him in a great look. Good example is in the second quarter of the last game, where Cooks splits the coverage blowing by the safety and Jared checks it down to Gurley:

IMO there is definitely a trust issue there. And note that he does go to him deep in the second half only to have Cooks take his route too far inside and it ends up being picked.

Hopefully they're working on this stuff because having Cooks and Goff clickin on the deep stuff is the one thing missing now from last year.

Reynolds will eventually turn a jet sweep into a TD . He'really smooth for such a long strider .
