They don’t need to spend 1 mill on a 3rd string running back.
Henderson looking better every week and is #2.
League minimum for rookie is about 500k
Could even be John Kelly, who costs about 570k

IF they trust John Kelly, that'd be fine. But if cutting Brown means they feel they need to draft somebody to replace him, then that means that cutting him means that they won't get needed depth at other positions. Which is why cutting him is not a no-brainer. They like him, he is a decent runner, a good receiver, and an excellent blocker in the back field.

IMO many people are just guessing and hoping to be able to one day say they were right. Remember 2016 when Gurley was a 1 year wonder, bust? The only problem I have seen where Gurley is concerned is the OL, just like 2016. Now people want to claim that because Gurley has never been a fan of the mindless media he has mentally checked out. When the OL starts blocking like they did in the dallas playoff game last season Gurley will return to the Gurley we all know and love.
Well I can assure you I’m not one of those guys

I just call it as I see it

Against Detroit Gurley broke free and would have scored but opted to take a knee so the Lions would have to take their last TO.
If he wasn’t so unselfish, he would have had a 38 yard TD. But since he’s a team guy, it only counts as 36 and a 2 yard TD run 2 plays later.
There’s your breakaway TD
He had one against the Cardinals his rookie year as well.

Again, the conversation was predicated on Henderson taking over #2.
Cutting Brown saves 1 mill of cap space. He’s been an ok player but for the 2nd year in a row when given the chance to step up, he got hurt and someone else gets the opportunity.

Yeah, I was referring to the conversation stating the Rams hadn’t had a 35 yard TD run since 2017.
that one you mention against the Cards was the epitome of unselfish. Not only was that run a breakaway, but Gurley took the knee instead of scoring his first NFL td.

No, it doesn't. Whomever replaces him has to be paid too. Cutting him and replacing him with a UDFA who got a token signing bonus saves about $500k of cap space. Except they are unlikely to trust somebody like that to block out of the gate, or to do the other things that Brown excels at. And if it's not a UDFA then you are talking about it costing a pick that could have been used to strengthen another position.

Brown has been hurt two years in a row - though I would not classify this years as serious quite yet. However, he has also been a decent runner this year, and a solid pass target, and a quite good and needed blocker this year. Would whomever they replace him with be that good, if they don't use a high pick on him? That is why cutting him is not a no brainer quite yet.

What happened in the Chiefs game that would cause him to check out mentally? Many believe that he hurt his knee in that game but that would be a physical not mental problem, wouldn't it?

~ArkyRamsFan~
He got viciously tackled almost horse collar like on his second or third touch, at the time I thought whoa

Next thing you know Malcom Brown is making a 1st quarter appearance

Hell...either one has the game on dvr’d and can verify...or not

Either way one thing I know as fact...Gurley has not been “Gurley “ since

It is what it is boys

Pretty sure it’s not a knee

So your saying Gurley didnt look like the Gurley of 2017 in the dallas game last year? I know everyone wants to be the one that called it and Gurley is done, but come on. Watch the dallas playoff game and tell me Gurley looked like he checked out. The only thing he checked out on was the secondary and LBs when he ran right past them. I know it was only 1 game, but that was also the last time the OL opened up some holes for him, coincidence? I dont think so.

Oh you mean the same Gurley who played second fiddle to CJ Andersen that same game?

The REAL Todd Gurley isn’t second fiddle to anyone, and damn sure isn’t to a guy who’s not even in the league currently

C’mon man

Oh and being the guy that “called it”. No, that’s not me

Personally I’m still holding out hope he can somehow fight through this

Did you even see CJ run against the cowgirls? He was pounding them to the ground while Gurley blew past their tired ass. Why would we pull Our 1-2 punch just so Gurley won’t play ‘second fiddle ’ to CJ?

I’m not cutting him today. Again, this is all predicated on the belief that Henderson continues improving like he has.
and yes it does save the cap space.
they have 4 RB on the roster currently, only need 3. Remove his salary, cap save.
The 3rd spot can be filled a variety of ways, UDFA RB is certainly an option (Brown is perfect example). Heck they could cut Brown and sign him to a league minimum contract even.
In any event, I’m psyched to see Henderson making strides.
Early in the season and pre season there was some BS false narrative that he may not have the work ethics or that he just didn’t get it. That the game was too fast for him.
glad to see all that nonsense behind us.
go Rams

This game against the Bengals offers Gurley his best opportunity in a while to show he’s still got it. Their run D is bad, and there was a report on Twitter that Demoff said to expect a heavy dose of Gurley today.

Does he make guys miss, does he burst past the 2nd level? Or will it be Henderson? Stay tuned.

I would like to see Henderson get ALL of the carries today. Let Gurley rest, or sit him after we get a lead, or after the first quarter.

Yep.

Edit: Others have already made the same exact comments, lol. I will just add that I hate the "I called it" fan shit. Some peeps always gotta be the smartest in the room...

Might be a good game to feel patient, work on the run game.

Like @RamDino would seem good to put some miles on Henderson too, if so.

Not to mention... I am sure the Rams (and Gurley) would love to bag a 100yd game to shut people up.

Yep. Some peeps just want to be "the one who called it". To that end they will make these comments about players, coaches, etc, in hopes that maybe it will come true and they can be the super smart football guy that told everyone so!! So stupid....

Well if I were that guy then there’d be a lot of Wentz fans on site whom would have heard from me

Look guys, go ahead and cling to your hopes Gurley is the same.

Moving forward I’m done discussing this

Go Rams!

Not sure why you are taking this as a shot at you, because I certainly didn't name you specifically. Just hate when I see that kind of shit...
