If that’s the going rate these days, you pay it.

He’s playing at Pro Bowl level and is still relatively young for an OL.

Throwing in an unproven (McClendon) or cheap alternative will just undo the good work done by the line this year.
I wouldn’t go cheap, but I may consider using a 2nd rounder.
That being said.. they have the $$ and keeping him would be my first choice.

There are so many great things about this season; having a competent OL--that many of us have been longing for for many years--is probably my favorite.

Re-sign Dotson and pay out a good chunk in his first year.
If the Rams draft LT, or even a Center, they would have that pick under a rookie deal along with Avila and Jackson while they’re still cheap.

I don’t see a guard getting $17mil/per. That would surprise me.

My thinking is that the Rams will let Dotson test the market. Is he can get 12-17 million per year I don't think the Rams would match it.

But they will get a nice 4th or 5th round comp pick on a rookie contract where they can draft a guard.

Maybe they go 10 or 11 million but the Rams win either way.

They won’t get the comp pick because they’ll be active in free agency.

We need Dotson back. Avila and Dotson could be the best pair of guards we’ve had since I can remember. Even when we had Saffold, Blythe was undersized on the right and we couldn’t run it much behind him. Gurley was running left or off tackle.

Two-plus decades of Rams' guards ... that's it ... talk about quality, durability and stability!

Great blocking ---- Rams fake a counter play with strong side G and TE pulling to weak side .. fake handoff to RB
End around---end takes handoff... but watch Puka seal the edge, the TE reverse himself and the center pulls to lead

If Rams make playoffs this play or a similar version maybe to opposite side -- Fake Gap 46 or 47 -- we'll see it

Textbook run there. Shoulders square to LOS. Offball types all bite. Then he shows his cut and bounces it. There's a lot of backs who would be turning those shoulders early and that can be the difference sometimes.

He is as good as it gets in terms of playing mini-games with the offball types. And the fact there are lanes and options for him to do that with pairs nicely.

The only one I want to see gone off this OL next year is Noteboom.
I’d like an upgrade at center, but I think McVay likes his centers to be a little smaller and more agile.

But Shelton had some bad games this year where he was getting pushed around in pass pro.

The Olines of my childhood. I always yearn for the Rams to rebuild a unit similar to the one that Dickerson ran behind.

Problem is that it would be almost impossible to keep such an O-Line (where 4 or more starters are Pro Bowl caliber players) together.

Like many here, I hope the Rams re-sign Dotson but they may have to over-pay. The advantage (as I see it) is that the 1st year (and sometimes 2nd year) cap hit on big contracts can be minimized.

As such, Havenstein could be the only OL on the 2024 roster with a huge big cap number. At some point, Havenstein will not be on the roster ... if for no other reason, to prevent Old-Not-Dead from going insane.

Not sure how Shelton plays out, as he will almost certainly opt for free agency. Even with a 1st (or 2nd) round tender offer, Jackson would not be a huge cap hit.

Must keep this OL intact for the immediate future, however I could see them drafting an OC in the middle of the draft depending on what happens in free agency.
