I do not entirely disagree but you have the overlooked a fair few QBs, not least Kurt Warner. That said I agree about Bennett
Quite right my friend! That was a different time though IMO. I am pretty sure Warner must almost be 60 years old by now? 1999 was 26 years ago! The advancement of the internet and technology really has changed the scouting game IMO. Harder for players to slip by.

Where are you Duck fans? Does Gabriel have a chance to develop? Love the name of course!

I’m not drafting a QB of the future until it’s Stafford last year. Stafford seems like he has 2-3 more years in him. Wait until he’s got one year left and let the young guy sit for one year (ala Mahomes).

It’s also possible we never draft a QB of the future- instead we trade for or sign a FA when Stafford is done/gone.

While the draft is lacking at the top, it's actually looking good in the middle rounds. Wouldn't be surprised if a starter or two emerges from Rounds 3 through 5 this year. (And when I say lacking at the top, I don't mean Cam Ward. I'm a fan of his.)

I know this is going to sound like an unpopular opinion...but if Jaxson Dart is still there at #26, I'd take him. I think he could be elite.
It's hard for me to get past my really bad impression of Dart due to his late-game meltdown against the Gators. I also don't like Lane Kiffin's offense. It does not prepare a QB for the NFL.

I have to say that I am very, very intrigued by Will Howard. 6'5" 230+, starting caliber arm, good athlete, and coming from a system that prepares a QB well for the NFL. He had his ups and downs in a new offense this year and still is good for some "WTF" decisions every game, but he was absolutely spectacular in the College Football Playoffs. I'd love to see if he can continue to grow mentally behind Stafford in McVay's offense.

Will Howard did impress late in the season. He appears to have the tools.

QB’s always rise up draft boards as the draft gets closer… AND there are a LOT of QB needy teams drafting top 7.

Dart probably goes waaay earlier than currently projected.

Looking around the league I wonder if Sam Howell is someone McVay could polish. Unfortunately he’s with Seattle and it will be difficult to work a trade with them if there was interest.

Milton with NE is interesting. But, not really sure about him either.

Hard to gauge Howard.
Maybe it's just me, but new offense or no, I thought he should have been much better with that NFL team around him.

I could see McVay taking a QB we'd never think he'd take, a sleeper, somewhere in the darkness. A guy that he things has just the right intangibles.

He had a pretty darn good year (4000 yards, 73% completion, 35 TDs to 10 Ints, another 7 rushing TDs, etc.). We're not talking about a guy slotted to go #1 overall. His numbers aren't C.J. Stroud good, but they're not incredibly far off. He put up better numbers than McCord did in 2023, FWIW.

Earlier in the year, he wasn't performing as well as I expected, but he really turned it on in the CFP.

Pretty darn good is nice. But, with all that NFL talent I still expected even more. He should be in the running for the #1 overall selection. And that Michigan game......

No way to know for sure but I imagine McCord playing in a Chip Kelly offense would have had similar results to his Syracuse numbers.
That said, Howard was pretty special in the CFP. I’d have no problem with him in the 3d to 5th round.

Will Howard is my pick. I've read mention of Rams sniffing around a qb in third rd (if available ). I immediately thought of Howard, yes on the older side, but has a solid skill set to develop.

If he was in the running for the #1 pick, we wouldn't have a shot at him. We're going to take a QB who has flaws. The operative questions are if he has starting upside and if his flaws can be overcome or mitigated.

McCord had a great year and made huge strides. He'd have done well at OSU if they hadn't pushed him out. If I'm being totally honest, the hang up I have with him is the lack of mobility. After all these years with a pocket passer, I am really hoping our next QB is more of a dual threat. Doesn't have to be an athlete like Jalen Milroe, but I'd like a guy who can at least threaten defenses with his legs when they make mistakes.

Lol...only top drafted QBs matter........talk about losing all credibility instantly!

Tom Brady and Kurt Warner would like a word........I just don't understand the obsession with narrative building these days.

From RGIII to Kirk Cousins to Jared Goff to Matt Stafford.

Just realized that with the exception of Cousins, McVay has always had a #1 or #2 overall selection at QB.

I'm interested in seeing how Dart performs at the Senior Bowl practices next week with NFL coaches throwing shit at him three days straight. I agree that his offense isn't a great prep for him to translate to this level. But he's been really strong under pressure and I think that reflects very well on something I prize greatly with these guys which is competitive drive. Will he be able to play fast though or will he be thinking too much. If he does well he's going to jump very high potentially. Teams need QBs.

I don't think Milroe or Leonard have enough passer in them to play for McVay. But the other guy I do think fits is Gabriel, unfortunately he's gonna need to be an outlier to succeed at his height, but if you take a shot on him late it's all good.

Count me in with those who appreciate Howard. Big kid, has all the tools, got the job done in big games. But if he throws well on his pro day, which I imagine he will, it's hard to see him staying on the board long. Thinking given a good workout he'll be off the board by round 2.

There's just too many teams who want QB talent and when you have a kid with those TE measurables some teams will be thinking "let's pull a Green Bay and take this kid and park him on the roster." Might even be the Rams if they're worried about Stafford.
