I disagree. Cause I can't find a "disagree" button!

Good point. It should be "different opinion." Good thing I have unlimited editing powers. :neener:

Correcting a mod, eh?

I've noticed that especially with a lot of new members posting and enjoying this active and great community of Rams fans that the use of the Chill and Different Opinion have gone way up.

I don't really mind it, but it confuses me especially with so many using the site on mobile and the accidental pushes especially with the Chill and Inappropriate so close to where people scroll. Mobile is a huge reason why I can post as much as I do even when I can't be on my comp for weeks at a time.

Is it reasonable to ask members if they disagree to quote the person and actually state the disagreement?

I suppose some prefer to just register their disagreement without going into it, but it hasn't been the SOP for members to do that very much in the past and, quite honestly, it's kinda confusing right now.

When I see it, I have no idea if it was a mistake, misclick, legit difference of opinion or even a hostility to the position referenced in the post.

Is it reasonable to ask for clarification if members disagree?

I realize that folks may just wanna click and move on, but since that's not really how this place worked for years in the past, I'm trying to understand.

Is this the new normal or is it reasonable to make this ask?

I honestly don't know why so many members get upset over a chill button being pushed. I have used it on accident and on purpose, mostly in the game thread when people are losing their shizz. Some guys are being too sensitive over these things. I thought the buttons were there to state how you felt after reading a post. If you say something that i agree with i will most likely give it a like or high five. If you say something i feel is a little out of line i will hit you with the chill button. That is all, doesn't mean i don't like someone or think any less of the person.

Wasn’t trying to start anything.

Point was that the dynamic used to be a tad more about the conversation. The chill button was basically used only to give feedback that a take was crossing the line, but prolly not enough to report. The different position was usually followed up with an explanation.

I don’t really care what the choice is, I just want to be on the same page since text already doesn’t allow for context and buttons even less.

But I’m not all sore over someone giving me a chill or whatever. Just want to be speaking the same language is all.

Might there be a way that different opinion be moved to the right next to chill and inappropriate instead of next to like to avoid an accidental press.

Again - and I mean no offense as I’m sure you haven’t seen what we’ve done and discussed - this has been gone over repeatedly.

My suggestion is that people watch when they push a button and change it as I have done multiple times, and others realize (as most have done) that most of the time someone just hit the wrong button.

Sorry - and maybe it’s just me but in the grand scheme of things and with all of us being volunteers and the owners refusing outside things that might make them some coin, I think this is a very tiny issue.

I don’t mean that as to say that members shouldn’t voice suggestions. They absolutely should because the owners (members just like you) have taken many of those suggestions and figured out a way to make them work. Compare this board to others. That’s from hard work by @CGI_Ram , and others who hate to be named :sneaky: and suggestions from the members.

We have a great group here. Sometimes we just need to chill and figure that mistakes happen, and when they aren’t accidents, the guy is just an asshole.

Peace out.

Not saying you are sore i am just speaking in general as it seems a lot of members get upset when certain buttons are hit. I don't think people should call out others whether it was an accident or not. I don't need to justify why i pushed a certain button, to me its an easy way to show how you feel about their post. There is a lot of topics on this forum and if i had to explain myself every time i hit a chill or different opinion i wouldn't have time for anything else. I read most of the topics but pick and choose which topics i actually want to talk about. So i will scroll through and hit some likes, a thread winner and a couple of chills. If it hurts someones feelings then you probably need to remember its a forum and everyone has different opinions. Live with it

Honest answer? Yes, it’s unreasonable to provide features but ask folks not to use them. Don’t want them? Remove them.

I agree that it’s annoying to have people negatively flag a post.

Why give negative review options at all? If you like a post, give it a thumbs up. If you don’t like it, no thumbs up. Nobody gets hurt.

The question should be why are people getting so hurt about these buttons when they know they are on a public forum where everyone has a different opinion and its the whole point of being on here to agree, disagree on the Rams.

No one’s hurt.

It’s just that the tenor has changed a bit over the last few years and I just want to be on the same page.

I remember going months without seeing a single chill, different position, or inappropriate. Now, they are in every thread that reaches page 2.

If that’s the new reality, then okay. It is what it is.

I was just trying to figure out if this is how things are now or is this just the excitement of the moment combined with new people that we’re all trying to figure out how to communicate with one another, old and new poster alike.

It really doesn’t matter either way beyond creating a more harmonious atmosphere as well as making the lives of the Mods a little easier. That part does matter.

Mac, my opinion (FWIW) is that the three buttons you mention have entirely different connotations.

“Inappropriate” is reserved for stuff that’s way, way out of bounds, something the mods should follow up with.

“Chill” I think usually means a poster has gone over the line and been insulting somehow, and ideally I think “should” be followed up with an explanation.

“Different opinion,” though, seems much milder to me. I think it’s actually a GOOD thing that it’s often followed up WITHOUT explanation. Not everyone is good at navigating conflicting views with tact, so sometimes it’s easier (and simpler) to just register “different opinion” and move along.

Just my 2 cents.

Overall the tone of this board is so much better than most... I’m with ya, Mac, I hope the tenor of this board can stay mostly positive.

Honest to god I thought you said "I have used it on acid" the first time I read this. I know I'm not contributing anything here but man those were a funny few seconds. "Well, there's your problem..."

To me, the different opinion button is just there to let posters know that we aren't all succumbed to group think. Oh you think we should trade McVay to the browns? I'll click disagree. Claim a certain player is a punk, thug, or some other perjorative I'll disagree every single time. These are things I don't think need followup. I click the button so that you know not everyone on the internet is in agreement with you. Which is a problem the internet at large has.

I agree with you to the extent that as a poster you want to hear counter points, tell me why you think I'm wrong or right!
However, I do look at it as a way to gauge the consensus of the board.
Is my view or opinion in the majority?

Agree with this. However we can encourage members to explain why they don't agree with something but we can't really force anyone to do that. Btw "different opinion" used to be "dislike" so it's an improvement.

I do believe when someone gives out a "chill" or an "inappropriate" they should have to explain their reasoning but again we can't force anyone to do that.
Inappropriate... LOL ;)
