Can't go wrong with a whole home generator! Hopefully he's not in a surge area? Pretty sure he's under a storm surge warning. Hope he does OK.Yeah my brother's getting ready to get hit in Cocoa Beach.
Though he's lucky to be on the Atlantic side and he plans on hanging in.
His place is cinder block on the first floor and he has a built-in liquid propane generator with a 500 gallon tank buried in his front yard.
He's on the Atlantic side so I don't think storm surge is a probabilityCan't go wrong with a whole home generator! Hopefully he's not in a surge area? Pretty sure he's under a storm surge warning. Hope he does OK.
Yeah, we don't get that here in central California either. Heck, where I'm at there are no fault lines nearby. I'm about 100 miles inland. So earthquakes aren't a concern either. All we gotta worry about is getting mugged. Well, maybe some crazy drivers too.Best of luck to all of you guys who are in Milton's path.
We're so lucky that we don't get that type of weather here in the UK.
Thanks for checking in.Love you both too!! Yeah…. Not looking forward to the next 40 hours. We had our asses kicked two years ago by Hurricane Ian and now this bastard Milton is gonna take a swipe at us. Two massive hurricanes in two years…. Ouch. Ian was a direct hit on us, cat4 (which they later said was basically a 5). It sat on top of us for over 8 hours and dumped 20” of rain on us. Luckily our damage was minimal, $40k.
We are about 5 miles inland and in a non flood/surge area. The concern of course is the ground is so saturated from a rainy summer and Helene 10 days ago. Our biggest concern is surrounding Pine trees falling on our house. I feel so bad for the folks in the surge areas. This is gonna be absolutely catastrophic for them. We have quite a few friends who got hammered on the coast from Hurricane Helene and now are gonna take a bigger hit from Milton.
As of right now the track moved south from Tampa to Sarasota. We are 35 miles south of Sarasota. We are shuttered up and prepared as best as possible. Plenty of Captain Morgan on hand though!
We won’t evacuate as our zone hasn’t been called to do so. After Ian, I think we’re good staying put.
They are under surge warning as per the National Hurricane Center. They were talking about it quite bit yesterday, from Jacksonville down past Melbourne. He's on the Atlantic side so I don't think storm surge is a probability
Thanks John!! Waiting for power to go out...Thanks for checking in.
Since your move to Florida I have unfortunately become much more educated of the concerns and differences with wind and surges. Sounds like you too are on higher ground. Hopefully the wind is not as bad as Ian.
Stay safe brother. You know our thoughts and prayers are with you two.

You are getting too good with these things. Thanks John!! Waiting for power to go out...
Yeah, I heard Ajax all the way up to Savannah but it moved south since.Once the storm gets back over water in the Atlantic... it will create some surge on that coast too.
So Hurricane Ian left us without power for 10 days, no Wifi for 3 weeks. They are getting better at it. Used to be in the past that it would be like three or four weeks. The power would be out. Yes we have a generator. I’ll be setting it up in the morning if power is still out.You are getting too good with these things.
After it goes out is their any kind of metric (history maybe) how long it may take to come back on?
Also, do you have a backup generator? We now have one here in Norcal with all the crazy outages that have happened up here.
Being in Port Richey as well would say they shouldnt need to worry about storm surge as we were north of Milton so water being pushed out. Wind was a bitch and heard few things hit us but roof stayed on and nothing happened to the unboarded windows. Havent checked outside yet but storm slowly dying down here and dont think any major damage if any at all possibly. I'd say they should be optimistic about there house and toys being ok.My wife's sister lives in Port Richey, they had to evac out and are worried about the house. Brother in law is worried about his toys of course but at least they got out of there. I've been through some hurricanes but never a 5, and I wasn't near a beach when they hit either. That storm surge scares the hell out of me.
