How would you defend the lions this week?

As far as on the offense, defending against Hutchinson is the key. There's nobody in that secondary I fear, especially at corner. Pick on the weakest link, motion, do your thing.

I think our style of defense is better suited to defend the Lions than the short game 49ers. Goff won't rely on check downs as much. Need to slow down the run game. Detroit has the best pair of backs in the league.

Edge will be key in this game. Verse, Young, and Stewart have to stay home and do their job. Don't chase, Lions will be running boots. Aim at Goff out the back door on hard outside run fakes. Be in his face immediately and force the ball out.

otherwise, run the same shit we've been running: cover-3 and cover-2, stunts, sims, occasional blitz's and bracketing amon-ra on occasion

hope wallace continues to take steps forward and play witherspoon less

Yeah the TOP(time of possession) will be something to watch.

The smarter teams in the league know that the best way to cripple our offense is to keep our TOP and possession numbers low. When this happens McVay tends get impatient with the gameplan, even when the scoreboard is close.

He was the one calling plays the first time in the redzone. Just saying. Plus, it easy to call runs all game long when you got a 20 point lead.
 
Gotta spy Gibbs with Kinchens or McCollough. Someone who's a strong tackler. And put heat on Goff, even if you have to blitz him. Not to mention do a good job disguising coverages. Just like the Pats did in the SB, have to make him hold the ball for an extra beat or two.

The key to winning IMO is our offense.

Game Plan:

Defense: Defend them the best we can. Bend, not break. FGs, not TDs.
Offense: Stafford can't have one of his off days, no TOs, run decently well.
 
I think dump offs will be a big part of this game if our Dline gets pressure, and those dump off to Gibbs can become explosives if our lbs are not in position. I hope Landman and Speights have their running shoes on.

You make a great point and because Landman and Speights can't possibly stay with Gibbs, the D will be in Nickel and Dime a lot.

Sounds Cliche but have to stop the run first. The Lions Oline is not the unstoppable Juggernaut they were the last few years but they can still create some holes and the RBs can rip off huge gains.

I would draw up some early blitz packages up the middle to get Goff uncomfortable. He’s not going to run or be effective on the run.
