The Rams and 49ers have an old and very heated rivalry. That is to be expected and, indeed, desired, given that they are long-time divisional foes who, for most of their history, were also cross-state rivals. And, from a head-to-head standpoint, the teams have been competitive (the 49ers have a 75-68-3 records all-time against the Rams).

It has not, however, been what I would call a respectful rivalry - at least not from the 49ers end of the equation. From Ken Norton, Jr. (who, ironically, was just fired by Seattle) punching the goal post, to Dana Stubblefield coining the phrase "same old sorry ass Rams" (SOSAR), there has always been an element of taunting and face-rubbing by the 49ers and their faithful.

Then came yesterday's game, and a chance for the Rams to finally slay the demon from San Francisco.

The 49ers thought they were the tougher, more physical team that could bully the "Hollywood" Rams. But, from the early stages, that identity devolved into dirty, rather than tough and physical, tactics.

It seemed that their number one target was Odell Beckham, Jr. On the Rams first drive, they delivered a head shot that sent OBJ to the sideline pointing to the refs and demanding a flag. They added a late hit/taunting penalty later, as well as a targeting head shot by Jimmy Ward.

Perhaps they thought they could intimidate OBJ and get him off his game. Perhaps they thought he'd lose his cool and (much like Tom Brady and Ndamukong Suh last week) draw a flag by retaliating. But it didn't work. OBJ kept in the game and was a key player with 9 receptions for 113 yards.

But, even more than the on-field heroics, perhaps OBJ's most noteworthy moment came after the final gun. He, amidst the celebration of a Super Bowl birth, ran to the 49ers sideline and showed respect, sympathy and compassion for Deebo Samuel - a player who has done his share of taunting as he plagued the Rams in recent matchups.

Rivals, but respectful rivals. OBJ showed the taunting, gloating, pretenders from the North how to win with class.

SOSAR is dead.
And SOSAN has begun

There were MANY cheap shots being delivered by the whiners. So many... it was obviously a part of their plan. Not just to OBJ... but Stafford, Ramsey and a few others that I saw.

They were taking a page out of Ass Hole Face's most successful game plans... I mean Gregg Williams' of coarse because Ass Hole Face didn't have any knowledge of what was written on the white boards in HIS locker room. The fucking losers were purposely trying to take our best players out by injuring them. That piece of shit Warner of theirs on defense was the worst offender. Fucking bush league game plan when you know you're outmatched in every way.

Karma is a bitch.

We sent them and their fans that can't fill their own stadium packing. Let them tromp through human shit piles on their way into their dump.

Fuck them.
I loved seeing Jones and Reeder on the field together at times. Also Weddle playing Strong Safety and seeing more of Travis Howard. Morris went with the bigger stronger package to stop the run. I was hoping for something like that. It worked great.

During that 17 game losing streak, I can't tell you how many times I nearly punched through the drywall or the TV at my house.

It was then that I began to hate them with a passion.

It felt so damn good seeing them lose and crying on the sidelines.
Back in those days I kept wondering how they could retain so many star players. It didn’t seem possible. The. It finally came out that the Niners were paying players cash off the books. They were no better than the scumbag Cheatriots.

Yes, we move on from Tutu and get what we can for him... likely a 6th rounder... just move on.

Our WR room should be Kupp, Woods, OBJ, Jefferson, Skow, Harris.

Period... unless someone comes in and displaces Harris.

We know Woods and OBJ are very different in this offense.

Much will be put on how many folks want to run it back. I think more will want that than people think.
I honestly don't think any team will even get that. He got rag dolled every time someone got hands on him. It reminded me of a child playing against pro athletes. Still have NO clue why our brass thought he'd be a good pick in the 2nd.....

I'm old enough to remember when, despite a ludicrous 17 wins in a row in the 90's, the Rams still lead the overall series.

That's how out of whack it had been historically...

I get they had a dynasty and we just had a pretty good team. But fuck 'em. Every last fucking one of 'em...

Same here man, same here. I don't even consider him part of the team. I forget about him so much.

I wish nothing but misery on the sorry ass 69er fanbase as they face a fair amount of off-season uncertainty.

How do we know that OBJ wasn't telling Deebo, " The next time Jimmy Ward goes after my head you're going to get another visit from my boy, Nick Scott!"

Obj talks like he knows he is a rental and may not be back. Then you watch the kupp and trees vid and it's like wow. Realistically noway you can have those 4 together and then you have Harris and a 2nd rounder in tutu. We may get our hands on that Lombardi but the emotional rollercoaster will continue on into the off season for sure. If obj is not brought back and we win we will be forever in his debt man. Wow!

Yeah I think they all know that Woods, kupp and obj could rule the NFL and how much fun that would be in LA. The rams have to keep that trio together with van as number 4 because we know how hard it is to go a season with your top 3 in tact.

We keep those guys, it's dynasty time

I joke and talk shit about him more than most. But truth is we drafted him for a reason and he does have legit 4.3 speed. Van has been effective downfield at times, but he's not a 'great' or a 'true' deep threat like DJax was. There is a world where Tutu steps in next year and starts catching 50+ yard bombs. If that is his role he wont be taking many big hits. What's the probability of him becoming this player? Who knows. I hated the pick more than any in the McVay era, but still I'll give him and Snead the benefit of the doubt.

I don’t see McVay settling for an offense that is less potent. I see 1-2 moves on the OL and likely departure of Michel but I don’t see him letting Woods or OBJ getting away.

Tough choice indeed, but great organizations make the necessary decisions to progress to another level. And yes, Robert Woods has trade value AND moving him saves CAP, so as long as Obj is reasonable with his contract demands, he's the keeper imo.

Couple things.

I respectfully disagree.

Kupp is doing too much to sustain and going forward, he's gonna have an extra target on his back. We NEED to be able to spread the ball more than we are now.

The cap savings for shipping out Woods is only about $3M, but it also means paying $12M for nothing when we really need him.

I really don't think Woods goes anywhere. I HOPE OBJ doesn't go anywhere, but we don't really have much control over that.

I think the for sure departures are Whitworth, SJD, Michel, Darious Williams. Who else? Corbett maybe?? Resign Noteboom and Allen. Or do we let Allen walk? Shelton is an RFA. Some interesting decisions no doubt.

Having that trio would be epic and that's not loss on les, mcvay, or Stafford. They can find a way

I know you disagree with me as we've ridden this rodeo before, and I understand, but while saving $3.mil. doesn't sound like much to you, that's just for 2022. In 2022/2023 that CAP hit of his is closer to $16M per, and will continue to grow through 2025, his trade value is also likely to fall off to some degree with each year, and this is a guy who is now recovering from an ACL injury. Carrying Kupp, Woods & OBj as well as the rest of our WR corp pushes this unit cost up to near 25% of our total CAP, so somewhere else our roster is going to suffer. Woods played the first 9 games of this season, without the benefit of practicing with Stafford or the Rams during the pre-season, OBj is finishing the season and has us competing in the Super Bowl. Imagine how much that Stafford/OBj chemistry can be enhanced from a full pre-season together.
jmo.

Yeah, but here's the thing. Kupp is too much the focus on offense and needs to be spelled a bit.

If we don't want to overuse Kupp, we NEED Woods.

I'm not worried about the money. That's merely a puzzle to be solved.

The issue is gonna be who wants to run it back and who wants to be paid.

Warner was a cheap shot artist in yesterday's game also.
