Precisely. I love Pat McAfee's recent rant on it, talking about how some teams act like the cap is gospel and others it doesn't apply to. Rams do whatever they want with the cap.

Remember when the 9ers were that team with Eddie Debartolo? And we were the bitter fans whose team abided by the cap? Yeah I don't miss those days at all.

Yeah but Eddie was breaking the cap rules and that's what got him fired from San Fran. The league is on to those tactics now. The Rams aren't breaking the rules. They just know what they're doing.

Woods started slow but was really coming on before the injury. Didn't he also have like 170 yards one week? I can't believe the disrespect Woods is getting in this thread, especially since he does so much more than just catch the football. Woods will be a Ram in 2022-23. No doubt about it, IMO. Hopefully, OBJ is back as well.

Keeping OBj and Woods is intriguing but Rams will have so many mouths to feed when FA gets close.

It ain’t sexy, but I sure hope they lock up our OL future UFA’s as top priority. Continuity is a beautiful thing in one’s OL.

Keeping Michel might be smart since Hendy is always banged up.

I suspect that they want to extend Miller, if possible. Our D results sure improved once he came aboard.

We have questions at CB and Safety and I’m not sure that they want to rely on mid to late round picks to restock there.

Maybe THEN they should consider a semi-luxury like an OBJ extension.

Having said all that we’ve seen the Rams work some unbelievable magic with the cap lately, sooooo…

I see that objectivity is not going to be used here, so I'll just say, Lol. Top 20-25? Too funny. Love Bobby Trees, but your post should be in blue font
Coming into this season he was one of 6 WRs who had 85 catches and 900 yards in 3 straight seasons. Thinking he'd have no interest around the league is pretty insane. You act like he's 36 and washed up. If the Rams want to move him they wont have a problem finding suitors.

there aint enough targets for kupp, woods, jefferson and obj together.

Unless you want to go spread run and gun atlanta falcons 91 style... Houston Oilers also
Interesting though that we signed OBJ just before the Woods injury. So I have to assume they had a plan for utilizing all four. And frankly, it reminds me of the WTF posts when we drafted AD. We were fairly set at that position. How wrong were those posters?

Sometimes you just don't know how a team plans to use players or what weaknesses the organization sees.

I don't get all the hand wringing over this. I see them finding a way if that's how they see it. It's hard for me to question after all they've done in the era of McVay, Snead, Demoff, et al.

I'm thinking it's a waste of time to worry about this now and the players we're talking about likely do too. We're onto the second round and I REALLY hope the players are thinking about nothing but how the TEAM progresses.

Not specifically directed at you @MachS … I wonder how much the knee will impact his trade value?

Me personally, I don’t know if I trade Woods. He fits this offense so well. Then again, OBJ seems to fit in too.

Nice strawman...
No, I said nothing of the sort.
The fact remains, he's not even close to a top 20-25 player anymore but he's being paid like he's top 10. It's no discredit to the guy, he's one of my favorite players. Objectively speaking, teams wont be lining up for a 30 year old WR, coming off an ACL injury who will be making 14 mill per year.
My hope is that they can re-structure Woods (again) so he can finish his career wearing horns.
I think that's the only way they can make a run at OBJ
Objectively speaking of course

The rams have been looking for someone to throw the fade to in the end zone for a while, Quick, Reynolds among others. Kinda surprising that OBJ seems to be really good at it considering he’s not that big. None of the other WRs on the roster right now seem to have this skill. McVay has been looking for this skillset but is he willing to get rid of a guy who does everything but that?
The media has discovered what a monster Kupp is in the run game and Woods is right there with him. We got a taste of the what the run game could be last year before the injuries to Cam and Woods. I think McVay wants to get back there running the ball like in ‘18, only with a better qb.

Do signing bonuses go against cap?
The signing bonus gets spread out over the years of contract, so the cap gets hit per year vs upfront.
So as an general example (its more complicated on a real deal) a 60 mill signing bonus on a 5 year contract would be 12 mill per year against the cap.

Best possible scenario, trade Woods to Detroit, and I love Woods, but OBJ makes Rams a better and more dangerous team.

You'd think he'd take a team friendly deal. He's going to earn a load of money from endorsements in LA, cement his legacy as a great WR and have chances at Super Bowls!

there were posts like that?

my recollection was that we were all ecstatic with the pick.

.
All? Nope. Some were bitching that we took a D-lineman when that was one of our few perceived strengths.

yeah I'm honestly not really concerned either way - I just never viewed it as a long term investment.

Unfortunately, that's fan speak. No player does that, ever. This will be his last shot at the green carrot, and he'll want to get every bit he can. The problem here is figuring out what "team friendly deal" means. From his POV? Well, he was making 18 mill per on his previous deal so I'm thinking 20 mill per will be his "taking one for the team" number
Can the Rams pay that?
