And now he's become a 49er.
It doesn't get much lower than that.
Hopefully he can find some kind of support group and try to rebuild his life.

Shula has done a fantastic job bringing this young group along. Using stunts, twists, and moving guys around, he’s doing all he can to create matchup issues while confusing the offense. The discipline, though, has been paramount and it is obvious how much it has improved.

Shula has created a tight, trusting group that is becoming a real problem for the opposition. Outside of Verse, who is getting his share of deserved respect, the rest of that front line is playing much better than advertised—until now. The rest of the NFL world can’t be so blind as to ignore the stingy point totals this defense is giving up.

I was originally against the hire, because I hate nepotism. BUT, I was willing to give him a chance afterwards because he was on our team.
He's much better than Morris, and didn't really have much to work with.
The lowest paid defense in the league, full of a bunch of rookies and UFAs should be at at the bottom of the rankings. Early in the season we were. But the 2nd half of the season we have gotten really good.

How was it nepotism? Pretty far from it. The guy had been earning his stripes with the Rams for 5 years and got passed over for the DC gig twice during that time
Alas, the D is really cranking right now and you love to see it

These last two losses were on KO’C as much as it was to credit Shula. Just like McVay a few years ago, O’Connel stubbornly stuck to his guns with his longer developing routes and deeper drop backs. I fully expected him to come out and play the short passing game to protect Darnold and try to control clock. Maybe he underestimated the Rams defensive capabilities.
I loved shula’s plan. It worked perfectly, but after last Week KOC should have been ready for it.
Heard Darnold this morning taking credit for the loss, "I gotta play better, take better care of the ball, get it out faster, etc." which sounded all humble but at the end he tacked on "i give (the Rams) a lot of credit for how they played and the plan that they had."
It's a NO BRAINER that when a QB faces inordinate pressure, you give him quick-outs, WR screens, quick slants, etc. that he can hit if he's facing too much pressure. McVay does this regularly for 9, not sure why KO'C didn't get the memo that we'd probably do to them the same thing the Lions did.

Great game for us Ram fans but I have a question. Most of the sacks took a long time to get there. That means the receivers were well-covered... right? Why isn't the secondary getting more love? It seems like the sacks are all the media talks about.

We have the best coach in the NFL. Give him a FAT raise and keep him here until he is 60. I am talking NFL coach record pay. We have the money, no salary cap on coaches. Get it done Stan.
Shula, pay him almost like a head coach.
Shula and McVay are buddies and both have been with the Rams since 2017.
We do not want to see Sean retire, take 5 years off and come back to coach some other team.
Keeping Shula would go a long way to keeping McVay IMO. No matter what he says he has got to be tired of find new coaches every year.
Think we can just pick one of McVay's "disciples" ?
Look what he did to one of them last night.
There is no other Sean Freaking McVay !!!

Yes I think that is accurate. Our secondary probably had their best game this year and it came in a must-win wildcard game. So it's a good sign.

The problem is a team showing consistency through the season does have some value. In the Rams case it means there's reason to expect the secondary to fuck up in the game/s ahead. And will it get us knocked out? So for me I am cautiously optimistic from this game. Cautious because we need Durant and Lake to play that way again vs Philly. Both of them really showed up big time. And so on.

I'm really proud of this team and how they've improved game to game. So maybe they're just arriving now. I just can't shake the concerns I have with certain individuals in our secondary. And just when Spoon has been showing consistent good play that he probably hasn't shown since he was in SF, he gets what might be a hammy, which if true is a very bad sign.

But I don't want to be negative. Very happy with these guys however this next game goes and whatever lies beyond. Because I didn't expect this roster to win it all and I still don't.

I really love defense, and it looks like we actually have FEARSOME FOURSOME 2.0 in our midst. how long can we keep Shula? do you think McVay and him talked about it because they are so close? they would have to you would think. Go Rams!
Fearsome foursome doesn’t make sense with our alignment, we need to call it “The Cinco de Ramo” :laugh2::sunglasses:

Technically, Stan could pay him more than most head coaches if he wants to. There's no limit to DC pay either. I believe most young HCs make like 3-4 million a year. Could pay him 10 and keep him if we wanted to. Give McVay twice that.

The Rams generated very little quick pressure in that game. I’m not sure how much of it was coverage related, and how much was Sam Darnold just being Sam Darnold holding onto the ball too long.
The Lions made him look almost as bad just a week before, and they were down a ton of starters because of injury.
