I don't know if these are hobbies or the fabric of my being.

I fish offshore and dive/spearfish. Been doing it all my life. We're down in Duck Key right now eating like kings from our catches. The wife and I love our boat.

I've also had saltwater aquariums since I was 6 years old. Back then I used to snorkel and catch all of my fish myself... I lived in Hawaii then. Today I have a 300 gallon tank... but now I buy all my fish.

Don't have any way of doing it unless someone's on Facebook and even that hasn't been working too well lately. Guess I'll have to get a Bandcamp or Soundcloud account one day.

Nah, lol. You would have heard about it by now. ;)

It's Christian music in the Prog/Rock/Pop genre. The last one I finished a few weeks ago is called "My Heaven Is Like An Island." The music comes easy for me. What I really need is a lyricist. My own Bernie Taupin.
I'm working piece by piece on an metal record now with some guys. One guy in Texas, one in Ca etc.
Some of it is based (loosely) on the writings of Alistar Crowley. Interesting idiot and the imagery fits the music.
I am working on the drum parts (programmed until/if we ever really record it) and lyrics.

I can go on for days with real shark stories. I even got bit on the heel by a reef shark... and that's not even my best story. LOL

Had many Bahamian sharks steal fish from me that I had just speared.

When I get back home I'll try and remember to tell you a scary good one. Remind me if I don't Hahaha. After July 10th.

mushroom hunting

Recently a young guy rode by on his bicycle and yelled out to me, "Dude, do you have any shrooms?" I have long hair and a beard. Maybe he thought I was a mushroom hunter as well. :sneaky:

Awesome! Would love to hear that when you're finished. One of the coolest things about technology these days is that you can send files/stems anywhere to other collaborators.

The FL Studio 20 I use has a program called FPC which has decent drums. I also occasionally use something I bought called the Beat Buddy that has real recorded drums. Music, whether to listen or to create, brings us all together.

My hobby and passion is genealogy and history. I started about 18 years ago knowing only my grandparents and one set of great grandparents. My Dad never knew his biological paternal grandfather's name, because he died before his son (My Dad's Dad) was born. He did have a curious oversized business card advertising a private orchestra business willing to do out of town gigs (with family name on it)...Over these 18 years, I have found over 2100 members of extended family, but the lines of interest are my maternal and paternal lines. My paternal line's family occupied a small town in Nebraska called Plattsmouth for most of thirty years, as 8 siblings made their mark there. They were my GG Grandparents and 3rd Great Uncles/Aunts.

The missing Great Grandfather was born there and was a talented musician, who also worked for the Union Pacific RR as his day job. He made a business trip to Missouri for the Road, and came back deathly sick with spinal meningitis and died soon after, never knowing that his wife was pregnant. His father (GG Grandfather) also worked for the railroad in Plattsmouth, but was about to transfer to Omaha (his family was already in Omaha), when he mysteriously fell 3 stories from his hotel room's window, shattering one leg after breaking his fall on an ice machine (45 feet). I had heard a family secret that was held very tightly until after all the parties had passed on, that dear old Gramps had been dancing at a party (verified) with a woman he had been having an affair with, and that her husband/boyfriend threw him out the window in some sort of altercation.

An uncle was a jailer/constable/politician who contracted/developed something that made him mentally not right. I think it was dementia, myself, but in any case, he disappeared from Plattsmouth to be at my GG Grandfather's side on the day they amputated the shattered leg. His wife was frantic because he was supposed to be bedridden. Uncle Jack had also lost an arm, 20 years before due to a RR accident (hence his career in law enforcement). The incident made his wife/caretakers to see a judge to have old Jack committed to an insane asylum in Lincoln, because although his mind wasn't right his body was still pretty strong/uncontrollable. Jack died 7 months later at the asylum, and due the caring nature of the times, a headline of the local paper screamed "JACK DIES IN AN INSANE ASYLUM." If you find the couple of small volumes of town history, you won't read about my ancestors, which pizzes me off! So I am am going to concentrate on historical Plattsmouth in first a Research class this semester (Showing a small towns conversion to the modern age by instituting power plants, telephones, automobiles, street cars, etc), and second into my Masters Thesis. I will slip in some family members into both projects....lol

That's good stuff.I didn't get into the careers of my ancestors , but got all the way back to the 1600s when my 8th great grandfather left Kelso Scotland , got married in Northern Ireland and hopped on a ship to America in 1657 I think. Wintered in Boston and then settled in Nottingham New Hampshire. One of his many sons headed to Danville Vermont and settled there until he passed away.

Took a trip up there a few years ago just for gits and shiggles and found the family cemetery

fabulous, Rhody. I recently gained access to digitized Nebraska Newspapers for my area of interest. I was intrigued about the targeted family stories, but I had little context of their times. I didn't really have a grasp of what the small town culture of Plattsmouth was in those days, when I came upon an idea to discover what those long dead people understood and knew. Read the newspapers. I am reading every word of every issue, and I am getting a feel for the place and time that I would never have gotten by reading a book. Maybe you could do that for your family in some town?

On my Mom's side, her paternal line arrived to Boston in 1633 with his two sons. They were Puritans, and followed Rev Thomas Hooker to the new world. John Hall is the ancestor, and he is listed with the founders of Hartford, Conn.
http://www.foundersofhartford.org/founders/index.htm
He later helped found Middleton, Conn, where he lived the rest of his life.

I'm an expert at keeping the wife happy and being a good father to my kids.

Beyond that, I think I've forgotten almost everything else I ever knew.

Oh, and I'm pretty awesome when it comes to useless trivia. I can't remember my own birthday, but I can't seem to forget random factoids...

I don't know if any of that qualifies, btw

I am a man torn between worlds it seems.

I am an avid gamer.

I also hunt/fish every time I can

And nothing on earth relaxes me more than picking on my Alvarez acoustic Guitar.

You all seem to do some pretty incredible things. I feel I need to find something much better!

I've been playing WoW since 2006, so I'm pretty much an expert on that game, but I dunno that most of it translates to real life. Well, Guild leading and Raid leading do, but not sure what else.

Share your hobby. Anyone a closet expert on something?

Me; I am my own barista. Started about 20yrs ago... playing around and learning. Lots of bad coffee made early days.

Eventually I settled on a commercial grade espresso machine suitable for a kitchen with all the accessories. Personally, I believe I can pound out a cup of Joe better than the most popular shop in town.

While my forte is espresso based drinks, I have the drip fans covered as well.
Wouldnt this be more of a career than a hobby? Lol
