I happened to climb into the pickup today and the local sports radio station was on (1280 The Ticket) as Cowherd was calling for the Rams to win the NFC West.
Colin Cowherd based his prognostication on the the Rams having a young, talented squad the should be able to minimize and/or manage any injuries and the Head Coach/QB duo which he thinks is 2nd only to the Reid/Mahomes duo.

You may not agree with it but Cowherd always has a substantiated take. And he admits when he was wrong. That along with his respect for McVay makes him a good listen for me.

Rams seem to have probs with getting crowned. Seems like every time they are a media favorite they shit the bed. So I like them better as underdogs with everyone ignoring them. Crown the shitters instead plz Cowherd. :laugh2:

Aye, SLO. I think we've had this discussion previously, maybe on another forum? I am in AG. When I was a young 'un we lived across from the Foster Freeze in SLO, next to the pet store.

I don't listen to the radio much since I had to quit working, but I always thought Cowherd was a realist when he talks sports. He seems to base his opinions on facts and common sense and isn't a 'homer' and, as stated, he is quick to admit when he was wrong about something

Most everyone else has the 49ers crowned. Cowherd is one of the few picking the Rams. I can see his point. Purdy is not elite like the shitter fans think. When that all pro talent starts declining you will see him struggle. That decline could happen this year. They are the oldest team in the league.

Colin has stated on his show many times he's from the Northwest and grew up rooting for Seattle and I believed he covered them early in his career, although don't quote me on that last part.

That said, he wasn't a fan of Fisher but sure as hell loves McVay and more recent years Snead the rest of our FO as well.

My favorite piece by him on us:

We're safe with him.

He literally said before last year that he wanted to put us into the playoffs and thought people were sleeping on us, but he waffled and had us just missing. But it was wild that at a time where every pundit had us picking in the top 5 and tanking, he said people were sleeping on us.

Probably a bigger stretch last year relative to expectations than having us win the division this year, which I am picking us to do

Respect to Cowherd -- he knows his stuff, as even this uneducated sports fan could see that we had a great draft & had the potential to surprise some folks. Kyren, Puka, Avila, Turner all had potential, + the Dotson signing should've made some prognosticators give us a little bit of love.

Everyone knows our Offense will be good. Everyone thinks the D will suck cause no AD and new DC. I thought McVay should have got Coach of the year last year. When the D is in the Top 10 and the O in the top 5 he will finaly get that award to go with another SB trophy.

Like him or hate him, mad props to someone who follows their passion. He grew up, as I recall, in Grays Harbor (specifically, Grayland) Washington - which, if it is not in the middle of nowhere, it is close to the center anyway! As a teen or high school student, he says he built a low power, unlicensed radio station and began broadcasting throughout his neighborhood. Nice!!

That enthusiasm led to becoming the announcer for the Padre's Triple-A team in Las Vegas; then a stint in Tampa Bay as a sports reporter - then on to Portland as the KGW sports anchor then to the daily sports radio show here.

Yeah, most think our offense is top ten. Maybe even top 5. But they also think the defense will not be good with so many youngsters in it. Last year most thought our defense could be bottom 5. A few had us bottom 3. We ended up closer to middle of the pack. I have a feeling our defense will be better than they think. Maybe not top ten. But not far from it. We have some high energy relentless motor type guys on the line and edges. They will get extra sacks on effort alone.

I like him overall and he’s pretty good on siphoning knowledge when he interviews knowledgeable guests but sometimes he tries to get a bit to cute with his predictions. But overall like Colin, love his banter with Joe Klatt as Klatt usually giving him shit!!

I understand that. I agree with the sentiment the shitters are in for a dip this year mentally. What that translates into, who knows, as their roster is among the strongest in the league. Truth though is that in Ratboy's system the QB has an elite run game, and Purdy is a very nice QB fit to run it. Which annoys me greatly to admit. Hopefully he comes up short when the chips are down in the playoffs.

Cowherd is much more perceptive about the game than most media types. You can tell he sees things clearly. Not the biggest fan of his but I give him cred where it's due.

Back to the Rams I will add that in a good McVay season there is a rhythm to it. Which is to say when he has the roster quality he needs. This season feels like the roster quality is there, or damn close. He should be able to get them into the playoffs and maybe into the deciding games where the big boys settle shit. But that rhythm of his two best seasons has included a good start (not great), a strong run to the midpoint, a mid-to-late swoon, and then a rejuvenated team that adjusts and makes its run.

What does it look like if the Rams can get a great start. And this is where I say they don't seem to handle being the front runner in the media very well. Usually in that swoon period the media hop off their dicks and then the Rams come back with full steam. But what happens if they start fast and position themselves as a top seed favorite early on. Hopefully we find out, but again the team psyche has not seemed to handle that very well. To date that has come with teams hitting us in the mouth and out-physicalling us in the trenches.

This is why the 2024 season is so intriguing too. McVay seems to have turned a corner in his appreciation for the trenches and I hope it pays off.

Get us another vet CB (Williams or White need injury insurance) and ILB (Reeder out. Rozeboom as depth/ST only. Spreights and Hummel probably need another year) and I see a potential top 10 defense. Edge, DL, Nickel, Safety all seem to check the boxes.

Yep. I remember him as the Channel 8 (KGW) sports guy in Portland. I always liked him on TV even though he was an unabashed Shecocks homer. I actually respected that he would joke about it with the other news people. He didn't hide from it back then.

The guy really has built everything he has as a personality.

I don't always agree with him but I've mostly found his takes to be logical and within reason. Every once in a while he'll come up with some real head scratchers that I think are designed to make people pay attention by way of questioning WTH he's talking about but all in all, I like hearing his takes.

And BTW...Welcome to the bandwagon Collin.

Let's hope Cowherd's broken clock moment is about the Rams. Only reason I listen is his guests and contacts. Not his opinions.
