I wonder if this gives us an inside track to signing A. Verner since he played for Williams last year in TN? According to the article by Matt Bowen players love to play for him and there is that Fisher connection as well. That FA signing would allow us to use our draft picks for other positions of need like OL, FS, OLB...

It is an attractive idea that could be challenging in practice due to cap implications (though good point, and I agree interest would probably be mutual). For Verner, having a Pro Bowl season in a contract year couldn't have possibly been better timed (especially since they were reportedly looking to replace him with a bigger, faster physical specimen in the off-season and pre-season, but in the end, his superior instincts, football smarts and playmaking ability were evident to everybody and he forced his way back onto the field). He made himself a lot of money, and somebody is going to pay it for a frontline CB prospect (i have heard figures like $40-$50 million suggested, as he is young), not sure we can afford that. Though if we did make one splash signing (not sure if that would be workable under the cap?), and we can't retain Saffold, that would be an awesome signing on so many levels... talent, experience and scheme familiarity, he would represent an INSTANT massive upgrade of our secondary. We could be a FS away from having a nearly complete defense (I'm not as concerned about the third LB position as some, maybe we re-sign Dunbar, get another free agent vet like him, or maybe a day two or three pick if we get some extra picks in a first round trade down scenario or two)?

You make a great point, even if Saffold walks we may not have/be willing to spend that kind of $ on a CB. But, if Finn is cut/restructures and Saffold walks maybe, just maybe...

I am also in favor of bringing Dunbar back. I think his familiarity with G. Williams is a plus for us.

I love it, a players coach who players love to play for, who isn't afraid to call a player out or even sit him if he doesn't play up to expectations, makes his players accountable in every phase, practice, meeting room, weightroom and on the field, im sure his son followed his dads coaching style and he had this defense playing pretty damn good.

Does this change the draft plans??
I wonder that myself. I doubt it, since Williams runs a very similar defense to Fisher, so I don't think they need to find people who fit his scheme better. But who knows, Williams might think we don't have enough pass rushers and we draft one of the OLB like Mack

I wouldn't think so, but I guess you could interpret it either way of so.

1 - With a better defensive coach who could do more with upgraded personnel, emphasize defense.

2 - With a better defensive coach who could do more with existing personnel, emphasize offense.

I don't think it changes their plans, but if anything, I find the latter option more plausible, and that dovetails with Fisher's stated intent of scoring more points.

I seem to remember some goofballs promising to stop following this team if GW got the DC job.

I will be absolutely shocked if Ogletree doesn't make the Pro Bowl this year, now. He is gonna be murder play really well within the confines of the rules in Williams D.

Fixed that for you.

And of course, this means we get to use the Sportsbook for the purposes of betting on bounties.

Opposing QB knocked out of game - 4/5 ----------------------------------------------------------- Place Wager

I'll personally contribute $1,000 to the "behead CrapOnDick" fund.

Good question. Can you imagine Snead getting yelled at by Fisher and Williams at the same time!? Poor guy. I imagine that this just reinforces the fact that we need a true FS who can cover some extra ground to make up for the holes in the secondary caused by all the blitzing...

Not one worthy of a first round pick. Getting one in free agency would be great.

I don't think it will alter the draft plans at all, the coaching staff has known where the hole are on defense and im sure they have plans to shore up those holes.

Maybe we should force feed our team adderall until they all become pro-bowlers. That's a more honorable approach. Yeah, the seattle seacunts, their fans, and Pete are all perfect.

I'm sure there will be a lot of emphasis on keeping our cool, dumb personal fouls, and not having shit after the whistle this offseason. Williams doesn't endorse that shit. That said I don't expect this defense to lose an ounce of intensity under him, if not gain some.
