They could use 5 good to very good defensive players to make this team extremely dangerous

DT
DE
LB
Safety
CB
Right now they have the number 4 and 15 draft picks and two second round picks. Next year they will have a real defense.

Whats also crazy about Goff's rebound in Detroit is that he was handed literally the worst group of WR I've ever seen.
Then they picked up Reynolds, St Brown came in to his own and things really came togehter
Of course it looked like another setback for JG when they traded Hockenson away (why werent the Rams in on THAT??) and it hasnt affected him at all.

All that is about to change with the return from injuries of D. J. Chark (6' 4", 200+ lbs, 4.34 forty, 1000 yards a couple of years ago with Jacksonville) and Jameson Williams (best receiver in the country with Alabama and even faster than Chark).

Next myth to fall about Goff will be that he can't throw deep.

That is a thing? With who? Goff has shown countless times that he can deliver the deep ball with accuracy...

With a decent team around him on both sides of the ball, Goff is a very good QB. He can carry a team if necessary over the short haul. But put a team around him and he can be an absolute winner. What more do you want from your QB? In many respects Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff are comparable. But IMO it's when under duress that Baker perhaps may be slightly better.

Goff gets a bad knock for that SB loss. But McVay has admitted he was outcoached. His offense relied upon too much deception and when it needed to it couldn't match up with brute force, i.e. teams like the Niners. In 2019 behind an atrocious OL he came within a missed (makeable) FG or getting the Rams into the playoffs. But again it's Goff who got the blame.

Detroit is laying bare the fallacy of Goff's so called failures. This season Goff has put the team into a position to win 2-3 more games that they have lost due to a poor secondary. The 2023 draft is really a make or break draft for the rebuilding of this franchise. The last place they need to draft for is QB. Build up that secondary and add another premium pass rusher and this team will be a legit playoff contender. Holmes is doing a good job of team building.

look Detroit has been the bane of football since.... for a long time. remember George Plimpton? lol. however, I like their coach and I like Goff. so, for NFL experience and watching a team grow is fun when you like certain players, coaches, certain teams, owner, location, cheerleaders, etc. especially when your team drove off a cliff. I do like an underdog in the fight. go rams.

I think the Detroit Lions are the only team (franchise) that has been in the NFL since 1966 (Super Bowl 1 was in January 1967) that has never even gone to a Super Bowl.

I don't count the Cleveland Browns because the Browns relocated to Baltimore where they went to and won Super Bowls.

Now, a lifetime Browns' fan who stopped supporting the team when it became the Ravens; and patiently waited for the NFL to award an expansion team to Cleveland (the new Browns), those poor bastards have never had a single trip to the Super Bowl. However, even those poor SOBs had a three-year vacation when Cleveland did not have a team (1996-1998).

I will only say that Goff was better than a lot of people on this board gave him credit for

A few on here have said he is either a bottom 5 QB or even that he will be out of the league in a year or two

Those are the only posts that I completely disagreed with.
I recall Wolford being better was a common theme on this board…tho surely no one will own up to it

Agree with all you say. Rams this year are proving again that a qb can’t be expected to succeed with key injuries, a shaky oline, inconsistent run game, and not enough weapons. That was also true in 2019 and 2020. Goff got all the blame when the offense as a whole, including personnel and coaching, were not good enough. No surprise to see him play really well now that the Detroit offense is coming together.

I think that’s a little extreme.
The Lions have an EXCEPTIONAL offensive line.. the kind it takes multiple very high picks and have those picks turn into actual players.
They also have an excellent 1-2 RB combo.
I’m not saying Goff is bad and Im happy for him.
They’ve also had horrendous performances against some good defenses.
Let’s see how the year plays out.

Sure… that’s not an argument against what some are saying… but I guess the bigger point is I think you need SO MUCH to go perfect with Goff to win consistently.

The oline is exceptional in run blocking but pass blocking is a completely different story. They're average at best in that area.

Lion fans cheered Stafford last year and I'm only happy to reciprocate. Been enjoying Goff & the Lions' play this year. Another candidate to knock off the whiners. Need as many as I can get so I have to cheer for teams I don't really like such as Cowboys until whiners are eliminated.

I had a lot of windsheild time yesterday, and I thought about this thread. McVay wanted a QB who can run his system more effectively, and Detroit is just as happy to run an offense that leads to Goff's strengths. I think that speaks volumes for both clubs.

Despite his improved play, I could still see Detroit releasing him after the year to save cap space.

Releasing? No. He's too valuable an asset right now to release. Trade? Maybe. Depends on how they feel about the QBs in this draft where they can pick.
