Somewhat unrelated (kind of) As you age you travel farther and farther from your teachings of what seems to be simple unforgettable facts. I have spoken to my Dr about what seems to be an unnatural loss of memory on more than one occasion. After tests bloodwork etc..... I was told that it is normal and we (humans) will tailor our memory to best suit our individual needs and at times that can become bothering. I am sure some of the older guys can relate and at Goff's age he probably just didn't record that fact as useful. As Jerry says anyone can be stumped by what seems to be a common knowledge question.

[QUOTE="LACHAMP46,
another thing I noticed....that some of the players were stumped on the word "rises"....
Really who cares....that's me..if he goes out and throws for 4000 yards, it's all good..but I'd like my O-Line to be kinda sharp witted...And I'd want my QB to be really sharp. Maybe he was nervous...brain fart...whatever...if you think stuff like this doesn't matter...okay:giveup:[/QUOTE]

Nah I think he really wasn't sure LACHAMP... I think there are likely more simple common sense questions he might not know the answers to but he comes across as intelligent to me with an oh shucks Forrest Gump once in awhile surfacing in his personality.

The key for a QB as you already know, is retaining the playbook, remembering the game plan and having a quick read/reaction high football IQ.

For me Goff has all the tools of a genius for his position including the mental part. He did win the co-dunce award with Deon Long for the first episode of Hard Knocks, yet is was hardly a factor of how smart he is in general.

Before Hard Knocks with all his interviews with Mooch, Gruden camp and prior shows etc he was considered a smart, competitive young 21 year old rookie with the pressure of living up to the number 1 overall pick.

I'm not worried one bit about his IQ. I would bet he's much smarter than his personality illustrated on the show.

It was famously said of Terry Bradshaw that "he couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the C and the A." Aikman, Marino, and Montana are also dumber than bags of hammers. I don't give two shits if Goff ain't a rocket scientist (or in this case, and astronomer), I just want him to be a great quarterback.

I think he thought it was a trick question and wasn't walking into a trap. As I stated before, you learn what you need to survive. The survivors became leaders. The ones who walked into the trap, food. That's my simplified version. :hiding:

Seriously a wonderlic doesn't mean shit. My job has this for the pre hiring process and I scored a 6 since I just put answers without reading.

Guess who's the top performer every month?

Even for NFL players it means less..

The whole sun rising thing is getting blown way out of proportion.

The only reason I could answer that question is due to a Red Hot Chili Peppers song 'the sun may rise in the east.....'

I use that lyric all of the time when I am determining directions and such.

Maybe....But let me be the case for the old guy. I have been a blue collar guy, driving tour buses for 20 years, and was an enlisted guy in the Navy before that...Long ago, I graduated High School in 1982, with like a 2.0 average. In the last few years I had confidence like I never had when I was a kid, so I went back to college (starting at ground zero) as a math major (starting with beginning Algebra). I skipped intermediate Algebra, and got an A in College Algebra. It wasn't until Differential Calculus, that I reached my limits..I had an "A" going into the final, and did badly, so ended with a "B". I examined my educational path, and decided that computer science as my major would not work. Still, I love higher math, but switched majors to History. I will graduate this year summa cum laude, and currently have a 3.92 average, and belong to two honor societies.

I am not special. Old people are limited by their vision as to whats possible. You can expand your knowledge of "unforgettable facts".

Some of the smartest people I know are completely retarded. I wouldn't worry, his racket is football, not astronomy.

Honestly though... Who cares. This does not test his intelligence. He might do badly on the TV show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader." That's about it.

I said dumber things at 21. I'm not at all worried, Goff is a smart kid. It's not like he didn't know something basic that we use everyday. He didn't know which way the sun sets, completely useless information for most people.

It surprises me that there are some worried about Goff's personality or the whole sun rising in the east thing. If the dude had to seriously answer that question, i.e. really give it thought, he would have known it or been able to deduce it. How many times a day do any of us ask a dumb question we know the answer to, or answer something poorly because we didn't really put thought into it or have our minds on other things?

The guy has all his mental real estate focused on the playbook and starting for this team as a rookie. It shows in the strides he's taken from not knowing how to take a snap consistently to running a flawless 2 minute offense last Saturday. And the personality, who cares if he's got a bit of a kid's sense of wonder in all this. He is settling in great with the team and locker room. What would worry me is an inflexible personality, or a guy who can't take an effin joke or relate to others.

As I sat in the stands last week watching this guy drop dimes in the endzone, any fears I had about him were erased. He is already to the point where he's competitive with Case, we are just not going to hear that from the coaches. But it's going to show as we progress through the preseason schedule, I am sure of that.
