Garapolo is a better starting option than Levis. If Stafford gets injured I’d rather have Garapolo to back him up.
Jimmy is turning 34 years old. We need to be looking to the future. Plus, he's a free agent and might get offers from teams looking for a potential starter.

As long as they have Stafford, they are in win now mode. But, I agree that looking to the future is a good idea.

However, I don’t think Levis is any good or will ever be any good.

I'm interested to see what Bennett could do after a year with the Rams. I would still pick up another QB that with some high upside that has been on a crappy team.

There are going to be no perfect options as a long term option.
Ive brought up a couple possibilities and was promptly shit on.
So it goes.
There is a 1000 miles between a Rypin and a Jimmy G.
So, if you want a good backup you are going to pay.

He may not be. But if it only costs a 6th or 7th round pick, it's worth seeing for ourselves. The alternative is taking a QB in the late 3rd or 4th round. I'm open to that too, but it costs you more draft compensation.

Hendon Hooker?
Was that a Joe Milton mirage?

What are some others? I guess Zach Wilson fits here too.
I doubt the Lions are looking to move Hooker since he is a good backup to Goff, but I'd certainly have interest in acquiring him.

I also like the idea of Wilson. He has actually played well in the league at times and has all the tools, but needs a good mentor.

If Stafford does decide to retire, I'm calling Jacksonville for sure. They would rake us over the coals though for sure.

Wilson would be crazy to pass up an opportunity to come here and learn for a year. And the year in Denver, under Payton, may have helped him as well. He might be a steal as he grows up mentally.

That's how I see it too.
I dont understand the fascination with a failed project when they can just draft one of their own and have them cheap for 4 years
Tools + Recent Redemptions. Levis has first round tools. And we just watched guys like Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith, and Sam Darnold turn their careers around.

It’s very easy to carry 3 QBs now. Why wouldn’t you be mining for a gem?
I will admit I’d rather have Levis rather than Bennett as a third tbh. But as a direct backup. No thankyou .

And correct if I’m wrong but Bennett is on the practice squad. I’d think a dumb ass team would pick Levis off our PS and try and make him a direct backup.

Stafford aint retiring but if he does. Yeah I sell the farm for Lawrence....him with McVay and that young D.....print the tickets.

That said #9 is our QB for the next 2 seasons, and Im 100% fine with that.

I don’t believe the third quarterback has to be on the practice squad. I believe they have to be on the active 53 man game day roster.

And each of them flamed out multiple times until they were in the league for several years before the lightbulb went on.
Baker is in a different catagory as he once had incredible success in the NFL even won a playoff game.
Darnold, the jury may still be out. And striving for the next Geno Smith doesn’t exactly warm the heart

I guess it all comes down to the Rams evaluation of Levis. Corn’d connection to the Rams would offer possible intel.

On the surface I don’t think he’s played well at all and it’s not the physical tools that are the issue. Some of its mechanics and most of it is mental. McVay was really frustrated with Goff’s mental errors.

I’d prefer Wilson or Howell. I think both have played better than Levis and neither had a great coaching situation, similar to Levis.

Wilson is a free agent this winter while Howell has another year under contract.

No way I'd take Levis. He doesn't have the football IQ necessary for quarterback. You watch his games, and you'll see him making stupid decision after stupid decision. If you think that I'm crazy for wanting Justin Fields, Levis had much worse decision-making and processing; it's why he got sacked and turned the ball over so much.

Is it that the lightbulb went on, or that they finally landed in situations that were conducive to QB success?

Geno Smith played in a stupid offense with a bad Oline this season and threw for 4300 yards and a 70% completion percentage.
If we're talking about getting a QB without breaking the bank, even if it's a bridge guy.. damn, I'll take that.

Lots of QBs look really dumb in bad situations.

Do I know that Levis' situation is bad? Yes. Does that mean he'll be good somewhere else? No idea. Just know he has tools.
