During the preseason Talib made a comment about how guys really liked Wolford as soon as he entered the huddle, so maybe it was a leadership style thing. Goff's such a neutral easy going guy goofy guy, I feel like when you slip even a little people can lose confidence in you quickly. Very interesting tidbit if true, because Wolford definitely didn't increase their chances to win in terms of talent, but maybe it was how he approached the game and saw the play. Goff in 2017-18 was taking those shots, once that stopped I can see how guys might lose confidence.
The timing definitely isn't a coincidence, but if he got surgery that would prove if as legitimate. Regardless, I don't think we should question Goff's toughness, after he broke his thumb he popped it back into place and didn't miss a snap. Came in early in the first quarter of the playoff game after Wolford went down and played decently well, and then quite well against Green Bay, so there's precedent for him being tough and wanting to just play through an injury.
I've "worked" through some pretty bad injuries, probably far more than the overwhelming majority of people, I don't think it's fair to question the legitimately of an injury really just based on timing of it coming out. I don't think it really means that much in terms of the narrative, frankly, most football players are pretty tough guys.
