Could Rams end up in mix for Adam Gase?

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- When the St. Louis Rams first expressed interest in interviewing Adam Gase for their offensive coordinator job last week, I wrote that some things would need to change for them to have a real chance to hire him.
Essentially, other dominoes would need to fall without Gase's involvement for the Rams to get an opportunity. Well, less than a week later things are a changing.
The biggest hurdle for the Rams getting a shot at Adam Gase is the Chicago Bears.
Since that time, the Atlanta Falcons opted to go with Kyle Shanahan for their offensive coordinator job, the Denver Broncos hired Gary Kubiak as head coach (and Rick Dennison as offensive coordinator), the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to hire Greg Olson for their opening and the Baltimore Ravens selected Marc Trestman to run their offense.
All of which leaves Gase with fewer options than he had at the start of this process when he was a prime candidate to become a head coach, let alone remain as a coordinator. But here in St. Louis, the Rams are an option that lingers on the table.
Which begs the question of whether the Rams might get a chance to bring Gase into the fold? To this point, they have been unable to secure an interview with Gase but that hasn't prevented them from continuing their pursuit. A source said the Rams reached out to Gase again Tuesday night after he returned to Denver from his interview with the Ravens. The San Francisco 49ers also have continued chasing Gase aggressively for their coordinator job.
But there's still one clearly significant hurdle the Rams would need Gase to clear before they would have a shot. That hurdle comes in the form of the Chicago Bears. The Bears have an obvious connection to Gase that can't be ignored. Chicago hired John Fox as head coach, the same head coach Gase worked for most recently in Denver.
The Bears still have an opening for a coordinator and Gase is already familiar with the Bears after interviewing for their head coaching job before they hired Fox. Gase is expected to fly to Chicago on Wednesday to meet with Fox and discuss the job.
It would come as a surprise if Gase were to leave Chicago without becoming the new offensive coordinator but then again, it's a surprise that he's even still available this late in the game. If, for some reason, Gase and the Bears were unable to come to an agreement, the Rams would likely become a serious factor in the chase for his services.
In the meantime, the Rams sought interviews earlier this week with Indianapolis special assistant Rob Chudzinski and Green Bay quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt but so far have not received permission to talk to either. They had earlier expressed interest in Greg Roman and Kyle Shanahan but Roman took the coordinator job in Buffalo and Shanahan did the same in Atlanta.
As for Gase, what once seemed like a long shot is probably still best categorized as such but it's not as far off as it was just six days ago.
