Warner and Irvin broke down why OBJ and Mayfield didn't mesh. Mayfield needed rhythm and timing (like Goff/Bradford) whereas OBJ could thrive with a QB like Manning (and I think Stafford) who doesn't mind a more creative approach.

With that said, I believe this comes down to the intent and comfort McVay would have w a freelancer like Beckham. Sean likes the idea of expanding the offense but he expects a level of discipline I doubt OBJ fits. On the other hand, if someone wants to single up OBJ on the outside, I believe Stafford would lick his chops.

In the end, beyond the salary cap and the chemistry disruption, OBJ isn't a McVay type receiver. But if Stafford believes he can make it work better w Beckham than he did Jackson, then there could be a serious conversation internally about adding him. Personally, I believe Stafford wants to trust McVay's vision and not have to worry about fitting OBJ into the mix with anything more than working within the framework of a play. Coincidentally, I think Marvin Jones Jr is a similar receiver to OBJ in style and Stafford made that work beautifully. But this isn't the Lions. It's a complex decision and ultimately not one they will choose to acquire.
