lol come on dude. “Average attendance”. That’s the baseline for your argument?!? You do realize NBA/NHL stadiums have limited size.

Now do total attendance for the year (or $$$ revenues). It’s not close. Come on man
You do realize MLS stadiums have li.ited capacity dude? Lol come on yourself man. Buts in seats eyes on TV watching the sport soccer beats both sports. The numbers are tbere and those numbers tell us more people spend their time and money on soccer than the NHL and NBA.

Add to that that i was responding to was a 5th at best comment.

Once again MLS is superior to those other sports from one key perspective: you get 45 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay. Zero commercials from beginning to the halftime whistle. The difference is incredible, compared to the rest of our sports.
Yep. The bang them over the head with consumerism USA wants no part of that. Not a nickel of profit wasted in these lands.

I haven’t watched a MLB game in awhile. Are we still afforded full innings without ads?

You used average attendance as the point. NBA/NHL stadiums can’t go beyond the 15-18K maximum per game. Whereas MLS stadiums are bigger. Obviously they will have more per game - it’s way less games too btw. It’s a silly point to use.

The 2024 women’s US open drew 45K. Does that mean the Women’s US open is more popular than nba, mlb, mls, nhl, etc?

Heck, Nebraska drew 92k for volleyball day in 2023. Is that more popular than NFL?

There are much better ways to make your point than using average game attendance

Yeah, that argument for average attendance is totally bogus. Basketball and Hockey are indoor sports/stadiums and limited in size. Soccer basically sucks to watch for numerous reasons, and it's way behind the top for sports in the United States of Football, Baseball, Basketball and Hockey. Most people in the U.S. could not even name one player in the MLS, and many don't even know that soccer league exists!

MLS had attendance at 94% of capacity
NHL 97.5%
NBA at 97%

So MLS had more people per game and less of a % of stadium capacity.

More people watch and attend MLS games than both the NBA and NHL. Might want to start rethinking this 5th at best.
I have no idea about attendance, but it is not remotely true that more people watch MLS games than NBA games. If that was true, the MLS would have far more lucrative TV deals (or the NBA would have far less lucrative TV deals).

Add to that e very USMNT game had a higher TV rating that every NBA finals game and Stanley cup game.
You claimed the MLS. Now, you're talking about the World Cup. Apples to oranges.

"Incorrect on both fronts. As the data shows:

1) Viewership: Soccer (27%) beats Hockey (17%), but it doesn't touch the NBA at 55%.

2) Butts in seats: Soccer is in 5th place at 11.1 million total season attendance. That is literally half of Hockey's 21.5 million and the NBA's 22.2 million.

For the world cup the water breaks were sad. But most of us soccer fans know that FIFA is the most corrupt organization there is and they took the TV money for those 2 extra breaks.
This vid below does a good job of summarizing the difference in ad revenue, which is what sets the NFL apart. Truth is they have been the most ad and television savvy sports league in the world for some time now. And the game also ports well to TV in how it's structured, with easy breaks in the action. Whereas soccer for example it feels bad stopping the flow of the game.

That said and to your point above the water breaks are a really bad sign for world soccer fans. It is going to open pandora's box once the soccer owners get their grubby fingers on the ad revenue and the fact that soccer has been more about the sport than the advertising is probably going to change.

I find the games HIGHLY ENGAGING. Not boring to me anyway. There are a lot of strategy and matchup things from team to team to account for.

I love it.

(The flopping is ridiculous. They need to figure that out to be taken serious)

Look at the contracts players get.
They are all doing fine.
Yep!

Shohei Ohtani
holds the highest yearly contract in sports by average annual value (AAV), making $70 million per season over his 10-year, $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. [1, 2, 3]
On a total contract basis, Juan Soto’s 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets represents the largest overall guarantee in sports history. Across other major leagues, the top yearly earners by AAV include: [1]
  • NFL: Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) at $64 million per year.
  • NBA: Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics) at $62.8 million per year.
  • Soccer: Cristiano Ronaldo's deal with Al Nassr pays him an estimated $200M to $300M annually.
  • Formula 1: Drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen pull in an estimated $55 million per year. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
