Was at the bar with one of my kids relaxing and watching that game last night and the entire joint lit up when he got that red card. I think most fans are all about that shit being scrubbed from the game. Accountability is always crucial, no matter the sport.

Yeah, that whole flopping shit is my #1 beef with the sport. There is plenty I like about it, but that is a big detractor, and it especially drives me up the fucking wall in youth soccer when you see kids doing it because you know they are coached in that unsportsmanlike bullshit. I think that's a big detriment to it gaining popularity over here too, especially when we watch American football and see guys get creamed much harder (and intentionally) and then bounce up and walk right back to the huddle (and no, the pads don't help that much).

Team USA didn't have the talent to stay with Belgum. Had nothing to do with heart.
Yup. Though, our guys also fell apart mentally. So many stupid mistakes. But ultimately, the problem is that soccer is at best the #5 sport in this country behind football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. Our best athletes don't grow up wanting to play professional soccer. Frankly, soccer is kind of boring. That's not to say there aren't entertaining games, but I've found too many of the World Cup matches to be snoozefests for most of the game. (The flopping is also obnoxious.)

I have to say that my boss - one of my best friends - is a big time soccer fan. He has tried to get me into it but every time they pull this fake injury or diving bullshit, I have to give him shit about it. I find it hard enough to watch with the lack of scoring and feel like if you watched one game, you’ve seen most of them. But the drama queens really just make it hard to take seriously. Hell. They ought to just put them in banana hammocks and give them a couple folding chairs. The phony histrionics absolutely cheapen the sport and I think it could go a long way here if they got a damn handle on it.

Always loved this line, from Modern Family, about a typical Soccer match ...

I love soccer and think it's a terrific sport and have played it my entire life... but I agree with you on the flopping BS.

Mostly I think it's trying to "work the refs." In American football, the head coaches yell and scream at the refs. In soccer, players writhe around in fake agony in the hope of inducing a yellow card.

Yeah, the histrionics are ridiculous and I don't know how to get more of a handle on it. Team USA does it much less than other teams, thankfully.

Ya mean like, a 2-point conversion could be an accident????

:woozy2:
Hardly typical though.

Seriously, I never view or summarize an entire season on one play or call; and very rarely think an individual game is won or lost on just one play or call.

That two-point conversion call was absurd; and Xavier Smith's fumble was huge ... BUT the Rams did not lose those two games ... and were not denied a Lombardi ... because of those two plays.

They hurt dramatically though.

dramatically ... psychologically ... emotionally ... physically ... spititually ... HUGE plays ... Critical plays.

However, individual games ... and, especially entire seasons ... do not come down to one, play in my opinion.

More people watch and attend MLS games than both the NBA and NHL. Might want to start rethinking this 5th at best.

That's not correct!

Once again MLS is superior to those other sports from one key perspective: you get 45 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay. Zero commercials from beginning to the halftime whistle. The difference is incredible, compared to the rest of our sports.

Only thing I think they did wrong was running for the Apple TV money, which got rid of the free games streamed for fans of their particular area. Sporting KC for example had their games available in my area and I'd put them up on the TV. Of course the service sucked, but it was there and I think was a good approach for building the fan base. But it can be argued that getting the big contract with Apple opened up some doors for teams to compete for player improvement, so it's not like I blame them. Just wish they would have waited a few more years.

Pretty sure I've posted this before but in regards to the time I sat down one Sunday with Arsenal on TV and the Rams on a stream on the PC. Arsenal played 90 minutes plus 8 minutes of extra time and ended in under 2 hours. Rams played 60 minutes and took just under 3 hours. In that regard soccer is the clear winner.

For the world cup the water breaks were sad. But most of us soccer fans know that FIFA is the most corrupt organization there is and they took the TV money for those 2 extra breaks.

I agree with the ape TV but I found a deal since I already sub yo peacock. For just $4 a month I could add apple to my sub. There are other deals like I.
