Not
I chalk it up as part of the home field advantage. Its natural for the NFL and referees to want home crowds to be satisfied with the outcome - so the close calls are probably going their way.

Go back in time. Former Cheatriots employee Matt Walsh says he has tapes that prove the Cheatriots cheated in the 2001 super bowl. Lots of legal wrangling came up and eventually the tapes were handed over to Goodell. He says it was nothing and destroyed the tapes.

The Cheatriots cheated. If not, Goodell would have aired the tapes to prove it. To say they cheated in a close super bowl would have destroyed the entire NFL.

So he destroyed it and hardly anyone remembers at this point.

Who knows if the Cheatriots cheated in other close Super Bowls? What would Brady's reputation be with a 2-6 super bowl record?
There are 2 things here. The refs fixing and the cheatriots cheating. The league could have instructed the refs to let them play, we dont want a flag fest.
The cheating happened, then Goodell covered it up because he thought it could destroy the league.

These are the people fixing NFL games?

Later a ref plead guilty to gambling and fixing games, and the story was buried almost entirely.

Are you joking? That story got so much media attention I was sick of it. ESPN covered it almost nonstop on almost all of their radio stations.

The only way to improve the calls is to fill the field with more refs and put an age range similar to players.

I agree with more refs, but the age thing maybe not. Experience can count too.

The league determined the Aints should be given home field advantage for the playoffs. Last Sunday's game only confirmed it because of not one, but two bogus pass interference calls against the Steelers. You can't convince me otherwise.
What does the league gain by swinging that game in the Saints favor?

The Katrina story has been played out.
Brees hasn’t given any indication that he is retiring.
The Saints have been on the upswing since last year.
New Orleans is a small market team, and not a legacy franchise like GB, Pitt, NY, Cle., etc.

There is no narrative to swing here, or at least there is no narrative that will earn the league money.

It might not be a league-wide conspiracy, but reffing is definitely subjective where impulsive emotions are an observable factor (the call on Fowler earlier this year comes to mind).

I will buy that refs are performing poorly across the board, as a Saints fan I have seen the Saints not benefit from proper refereeing, but that is a matter of people not doing their job, not the league having a bias towards the Saints.

Sort of being facetious. There will be no improving the officiating. It is an impossible job and only gets harder because of all the PC rules. Also the league doesn't want a flag on every play and the coaching and players know it and play accordingly. The only real way to make it better is call every thing as written in the rules. No exceptions. Ether stop letting the DB touch after 5 yards and make it legal. If a Dlineman gets by the Olineman and the Olineman has his arms out in anyway to slow him down, call it or write into the rule book it is legal and let it be. As fans, all we want is consistency from game to game, no matter who is the ref. For the call in the Saints game on Kamara's play to be a penalty and the final play in the Ram game on Reynalds not to be is tough to swallow. The some people in this forum say the ball was over Reynolds head so no call, not even taking into account the fact the DB impleaded his progress and it was still debatable whether or not the ball was uncatchable. Then see that Kamara had no chance at catching that ball. I say change the rule to black and white. It is either catchable or not. Nothing the DB does will affect that call. Just like the DB can push you out of bounds to keep you from getting 2 feet down. At least it takes another judgement out of play. Because the fact is, the DB probably held earlier in the play which could have affected whether it was catchable. And how about if a DB is standing in a spot, the receiver can't touch him to make there cut. It would be easy to call offensive pass interference and it would probably stop so many of the hold calls. There is just to much decision making the refs have to make, which makes it impossible for them to be consistent league wide and so the refs will continue to suck.

Conspiracy theories  Why do I read these ridiculous posts??? Entertainment value, I guess.

The question is: why is a Saints fan coming on here to prove a call was made properly in a game that the Rams weren't playing?? And why is the team named Saints?? Why is the team from "New" Orleans, what happened to Old Orleans?? :cautious:

I think the OP works for Goodell and is here to plant seeds of doubt so the team and fans will be distracted while he secretly plots to overthrow the NBA in a money grab to collect guns and ammo for his Guerillas in the overthrow of the countries of (what we now know as) Central America and to rename all of it after himself. His secret band of rebels might be called; Los conquistadores para la liberación de la República de Goodell.

Nah. Even if they lost that game all they'd need for home field would be beat the Panthers, at home, down to their third string QB.

Makes zero sense for the league to have anything to do with that - plus, the Steelers playing anyone gets a ton of viewership - the Steelers playing the team with the best record in the NFL?

I'm pretty sure those refs will be dealt with by the NFL.

I agree and in fact it's the opposite. The Steelers carry possibly the largest fanbase with them in the NFL - and a high profile game....literally zero benefit for the NFL to be involved. Those officials should be fired for what was IMO two bad 4th down calls that will ultimately prevent the Steelers from making the playoffs. You can argue that the second one was technically PI, but we've seen much worse not called.

I've not done any scientific research, but I think that most folks (if they're honest with themselves) think the calls almost always go against their team...It's simply the nature of the beast, a matter of perspective...

I think the 2001 Super Bowl is all the proof anyone needs of the league steering the outcome they want.

In the wake of 9/11 the Patriots enter the playoffs with the right colors.
Patriots survive the Raiders game they should have lost on a BS call.
Patriots film the Rams walkthrough and are sitting on routes for new plays Martz drew up specifically for that game.
Patriots DBs maul and mug the Rams' pass catchers all game long while refs swallow whistles.
League burns the tapes Belicheat and company had accrued for zero good reason.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but when it comes to 2001 it's pretty damn clear what happened.
I think the NFL destroying the tapes makes it all the more suspicious, I believe in the theory that the NFL supplied the Patriots with said tapes and that is the reason they destroyed them. I mean why not show the world the tapes, to shut all the people up that were saying the Patriots cheated. Things that make you go hmm...

The response I was looking for was

“But who’s buying”
Damn. thought it was already implied.

Megadeth kicks ass. I met Mustaine at a release party, He wasn’t very personable, but we did manage to talk some baseball. He was a Braves fan, and a bit more than casual. Musical wizard. Interesting guy.
