Brown is back, which means likely no C.J.
Brown getting 2 mill, no $$ left for CJ
RB Malcolm Brown might get a better offer from many teams still floating in green cap cash ....than what the Rams offered & could say "See Ya". So Brown may not be secure yet.

There is plenty of depth at RB in the draft, and will save us $$$ by going that route. Also, I really like John Kelly and perhaps the staff does as well. With the expense of signing a back up QB in FA, I would think that is a top plan in the draft also, though I'm not sure there is one talented enough to be a back up this next year in the later rounds.

Any way to delete that near $4 million of dead cap money we have now on Barron? What happens to that dead $$$ if we sign Barron to a deal ?

I have read several posts on the Rams current cap space and some say it's 9 mil and some say it's 18 mil. What is the TRUE Rams current cap number?

I assume you mean claustrophobic......unless you are afraid of some dude named Kloster, lolz.

I try to misuse the letter K whenever possible. Unless its the word okay. I always type out "okay" and never replay with "K"

"The Rams are clearly limited, that much is clear. According to Over The Cap, the Rams currently only possess $8.7m in cap space, and $5-6m of that will need to be set aside for the 2019 NFL Draft".

Damn we have some work to do with freeing up some of that Cap space. I hope some players take some guaranteed money upfront so that cap number wont inflate too much. I was hoping Brockers would restructure but i doubt he does. Or maybe we can sign Peters to a 3 year deal with a high guarantee and free up his 9mil he's using up in hard cap. What do you think Bonifay?

Man I sure hope you are right. And the longer I see like no news about CJ, the more hope it gives that I’ve been wrong about his value the whole time.
This tweet kinda scares me but whatevs. Just Twitter

Yeah that is concerning. Maybe they've talked to his agent, though, and have a ballpark figure in mind and can move on the contract if and when he doesn't get overpriced by the market.

On the other hand, as you noted, it's a good thing he wasn't in that first wave. Longer this goes on the better it is for the Rams. Oh and re: their other RB options the concern on my end is that neither were able to back up Gurley when we needed them. Might not be fair, since injuries happen and whatnot, but it bothers me and it would factor in to my decision if I'm Les.

I will try to give it some serious thought here over the next few hours but it's always a good ideal for me to pass the good close actual figure $$$ crunching to @flv

Snead won't pay big dollars to a free agent that is decent. He'll draft someone before he does that.

It seems to me that if he can't get top level talent in a trade of out of free agency he isn't interested. Outside of street free agents of course. And I wouldn't be shocked if he picked up 2-3 guys that play ILB that way and that one turns into a very good player.

I don't disagree and note I never said he was going to pay big dollars to the position. I think he will use the secondary market to find those roster bolstering types who lessen the need. And ILB is probably very high on that list.

The rumors about Clay Matthews are interesting too. He's running on fumes, but might be a guy who could help a Super Bowl contender. Would he be affordable?

The Rams still have tremendous flex if there's something that they feel they just HAVE to do.

I mean if Clowney wants to do a 1 year deal to ensure he gets one of those max contracts for defenders like Mack, Donald, etc, then the Rams could figure it out...

That's NOT going to happen, but the point is that if something...strange...like that were to occur, they could figure it out.

I actually like where we are right now without Clay Matthews, but if we add him, I'm okay with it. Or anyone else that could come along.

I really don't think we should underestimate how good our draft was last year.

Still work to do. Rams have less than 10 million of cap space, along with 7 draft picks.

On the O side, backup QB is still a question. Brandon Allen has been on the team a couple of years now is he ready for that spot. Regardless drafting a QB looks like a strong possibility.

Boom & Allen are moving up to starters, a couple of backup spots open on the OL. Rams kept a couple of Tackles on the practice squad last year, drafting an OT looks like the best option for a backup. He would get lots of reps behind Whitworth, just as Boom did last year. Bringing in a vet to battle Allen makes sense, Rams could also bring in a vet RG, John Miller from Buffalo may be a possibility, letting Blythe to move to C.

Higbee in the last year of his contract, drafting and developing a TE makes sense for a replacement.

On the D side, replacing Suh and Westbrooks, has to happen. Another Vet and draft pick makes sense, tough to find 2 draft picks to man those spots, need rotation pieces.

ILB has no depth, both Hagar and Wilson are out. Again a vet to compete with Kiser and a draft pick to backup Littleton could be the plan.

CB needs to replace Shields, will have Peterson and Hatfield back from injury. Starters are set, both will be free agents next year, along with Hill, need to begin to draft and develop CB's, have not drafted one in the past few drafts. Too expensive to find in free agency, and seems CB is one of the the top positions that injuries occur each season.

Rams are considered Super Bowl contenders, believe that will help with finding low cost vets that are looking for a ring, and willing to take less to win one. In a great spot for the upcoming draft too, can certainly pick up a player that falls to them early, BPA at a spot of depth is needed, DL, TE, OT, ILB, or CB. A player they target at one of those spots could be available, if not a trade down, picking up additions picks would work too. Great spot to be in.

Looking foward to the 3rd round selections, after the success in the past couple of drafts in that round. McVay and Snead sure work well together.

Nice post. Soo many things to think about.

Right now I'm concerned with getting the defensive depth in order. The D Line needs lot's of help as well as ILBer. Depth on the O Line too. Let's see how much they want to spend to fill some more holes.

$17M for Gurley and $15M for Cooks. The two easiest positions to fill and we have a ton of money in them.
I really like Gurley as a person and as a player, but I didn't like that contract either.

Not only is that position easy to fill, but it's plagued by injury, tends to be overvalued relative to dependence on the offensive line, depth through the draft is well applied to special teams, and the offense should be less dependent on play action.

What I really, really want, is something I have wanted the last decade, a receiver who will win those 50/50 balls. It keeps haunting me, in a couple of our losses, and especially, the Superbowl, if we catch those balls, then we are Superbowl Champs, instead of Superbowl chumps. Imagine how much better Goff would be, he is putting the balls in play, but our receivers aren't helping him.

Maybe, we can find a young, fast, competitive guy in the draft. IDK.
