This feels like de ja vu

We have tried this at least three times before since McVay became head coach

Each time it hasn’t worked too well and we have either signed a vet (Fowler & Miller) or suffered abject failure (last season)

Maybe we get lucky with these draft picks and Hoecht but I am worried especially as our secondary doesn’t look particular safe either

I would be happy for one if we signed Floyd and Johnson back onto the team though I understand why others here disagree

It is an interesting debate.

I don't see Floyd and Johnson making enough of a difference to give the Rams a real run in the playoffs.

Save the money for next year. Let the young guys get the experience. Next year Rams could sign one or two rising younger players on a multi-year deal.

Ah, makes sense.

As much as I hate watching losing seasons (we all have seen plenty). It seems that a drop off was bound to come eventually. I’m just trying to be realistic.

McVay never seemed to be too keen on relying on rookies as starters in the past. Does that mean he’s resigned to embracing a struggling defense?
Yes. And can’t see them adding much for vets no matter how the team performs.

The young dbs need someone back there that knows what he's doing so they can learn the right way.

Jrry32 was all over Donald pre draft and had me convinced

I hated the Robinson pick. We should have traded back! You don't draft a project there... Thankfully we lucked into signing a potential hall of fame LT in free agency. Big Whit was instrumental in our resurgence

We probably need to find another great LT next year if a SB run in 2024 is to become a realistic possibility
it depends on if Jackson is for real.

What are coaches for?

The Rams just brought back Aubrey Pleasant to get the DBs on the right track.

I'm not totally against Johnson coming back. I would rather spend the money next year as I stated earlier.

And if we're gonna bring a vet in for the secondary, I'd prefer it at corner where the youth is more likely to get exposed than at safety.

Philosophically I prefer young corners. I think they're at their best when they're still fresh in the legs dept. But yeah I wouldn't complain if they bring in a vet corner at some point, like maybe a late camp cut.

If I were a GM I'd draft corners every year, keep a steady stream of fresh legs back there. You just cannot have enough of those guys, they have the toughest job in the league.

Yes, in a year the guys will prove themselves. And it will become clear who is worth signing a multi-year deal with and who is not worth signing.

Knowing what you know now, would you let the young guys play and (hopefully) develop, or would you sign a vet?

Melvin Ingram and Carlos Dunlap are still available.

It all depends on whether they actually plan on competing this year (which we will never hear from the team). If they actually want to compete, they should absolutely bring in a veteran for edge. Also another DT/NT run stuffer and another MLB to play alongside Jones.

Still possible, but I'm beginning to doubt it.

Pretty much for standing pat.

I love our safety group - think Lake is going to be an absolute stud - and like/am hopeful for our corners.
Pass rush sucks, but I just don't think we are going to be good enopugh to warrant going after some stud edge and/or D lineman.

We know we're spending money next year, so just hang on - aka patience glasshoppa.

Nothing has changed for me. I wanted a 1T and still do. And they added a vet CB3 in Witherspoon so that room feels solid.

I doubt a 1T will be available in the upcoming cuts but am hopeful and we are pretty high on the claim list so it's possible we add to the DL group.

Let them play. I don't think they will get much on a league minimum. Not worth taking snaps away from the young guys. I don't want us to be competitive at the expense of being great as soon as possible. Nothing is certain but, stick to the plan.

If I were the Rams I would list the top 15 Edge rushers in the league and try every week to make a trade for one of them (up to the trade deadline). If that didn’t work, do the same thing starting day 1 after the season ends until FA starts. If that didn’t work then do the same thing with the available FA Edge players. If that didn’t work then using either the 1st or 2nd round pick in the draft - get a stud Edge. The Rams without a stud Edge next year will severely limit the ability to field a top 10 defense with solid QB pressure. IMO it is the Highest of priorities for next year. Equal to finding a legitimate LT (unless AJax progresses leaps and bounds this year).

Agree.

Much will depend upon what happens this season, but at this stage LT and edge look like the biggest needs for 2024. Draft one in the first round and acquire the other through free agency, perhaps?

I predict some late vet pickups at edge and DL. Not going out on much of a limb here

I think letting Gains and Ashawn walk for so little kind of gives us your answer.

Robert Quinn is 2 years removed from his 2nd best season sack wise. Is he not worth at least considering?
