because rams on demand OC's will rake mcvay over the hot coals for not having an equal amount of runs as passess.
I do tend to defend McVay a lot because of how we all tend to over-focus (IMO) on play calls but this does remind me that he's got some stale shit in his playbook. And by stale I mean that he's running some plays meant to capitalize on aggression/movement that no longer work as well as they should. Are they overused? Well some are like the boot-driven ones. He's had to rely on them of course due to this OL but still.

And a good example of the bootleg overuse is the fan favorite where the QB throws across the grain (a bit) to the TE who lines up inside. Teams are all over that shit now when they prep for the Rams. Way it's drawn up there's a mix of different level options but they all rely on the boot action (which again is hit/miss as fuck now that teams know we need to do it). Here it is vs the Cards at 09:22 in the first quarter.

In the play above what he should do is add a wrinkle where the TE (81 in this case) stays on the edge block, which will help spring the boot action and flip the script on the defensive reads where the edge might not recognize the play. If it's not there from that point throw it away.

But of course everyone's a critic right? It's pretty easy to just look and see what would have worked with hindsight. But I still think he needs a refresh on some of his "staple" plays going into this playoff game and IMO he'll either do that or add some new stuff.

what he is saying and i think could be the case - is that Goff plays it safe and tries not to turn the ball over.

Goff's down the field passing has been bad all year. The wheel route that wolf hit to akers - ive seen goff miss that throw at least 3 times.

Goff is better at short tight throws for sure.
Well the wheel route? Earlier this year, Akers had a drop and Brown on more than one occasion didnt look back for the ball. And of course the ill fated 3rd and 4.. So that's not a throw Goff isnt going to make, or hasnt taken. The deeper shots, the throws down the sideline, are less risky throws, not more risk. So I'm not sure what spin is being put on this. Wolford was a joy to watch, his running for first downs was exciting as hell. And though he made some big time throws, he was ham and egging a bit out there, which is cool for that game. Best thing that happened to Wolford was that the Rams knocked out Murray. Wolford had all the time in the world to get used to the speed of the game as it was pretty obvious Arizona wasnt going to score on their own. Had they gotten down 10, 14 -0? Different vibe altogether

my references to wheel routes where throws goff made and didn't hit.- not throws he didnt try. I've also seen him miss a wide open higbee twice on what looked like the same pass wolford hit.

Goff has not been good on deep passes this year. wolford missed a couple also.

I'm not saying wolford is better than goff either... not from one game where he had a 63 rating....

Brock and Kiser come back and the D is fully staffed. Whit, Kupp, Akers another week healthier and Goff (with. Wolf in the wings of needed) and the O is back to TB/NE game staffed. I like our odds. No excuses on being able to go toe to toe with SEA.

Goff has thrown deep this year occasionally but without much success. He needs to put some air under the ball and give the guys a chance to go get it.

I’m sure he used to do that better when throwing to Cooks. His flat throws this year made me wonder if her was nursing an injury earlier.
