Report: Facebook pulls out of talks to stream NFL games
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 1, 2016

The NFL wants to find an online partner to stream Thursday night and Sunday morning games this season, but that partner will not be Facebook.

According to Bloomberg, Facebook has withdrawn from the bidding to stream Thursday night games. The NFL and Facebook reportedly didn’t see eye-to-eye on advertising, with Facebook wanting to run ad-free video and the NFL wanting revenue from ads.

The league has already agreed to deals with CBS and NBC to air Thursday night games in conjunction with NFL Network, but the league would also like to have an online streaming partner. The league is also looking to stream Sunday morning games from London.

Amazon and Verizon are reportedly still in talks with the NFL to stream games this season.

Ah, the age old story of a billionaire company wanting to horde all of the monies generated by the other billionaire company.
Tis a sweet tale.

The NFL is just trying to find someone they can use to get the kinks worked out before they do pay per view streaming.

Then it'll be serious revenue time for them. There may still be network game son, but they are going to have big matchups to themselves and you know playoffs and SB too.

Even they're not that stupid. It's not a boxing match.

That's the day I bail out of watching the NFL.

Yep, the day the NFL goes to the UFC model of doing free undercards and/or minor games and marquee games on ppv, then I'm done.

It's already a sport that I have trouble reconciling. I struggle. Go ppv and I'm done.

Moreover, when the stadiums are less than half full even with 10$ tickets and cheap concessions since fans can stay home in comfort and watch PPv for less than the price of parking. then the NFL will realize it screwed the pooch.
And there will be no turning back.

It'll be PPV........it won't be as high per event as MMA or boxing.

But it'll be 5-10 bucks a game, and eventually more.

If it's ppv with no ads... Then fine.

But you know they'll want folks to sit through 40+ mins of ads during a 3hr game.

And ppv WITH ads is straight BS.

Report: Twitter to stream Thursday Night Football games

The NFL has reportedly found a streaming partner for the Thursday Night Football package of games.

Bloomberg reports that Twitter has won the right to stream the games online during the 2016 season. There’s no word on the price that Twitter will be paying to secure the digital rights to the contests.

The league had been looking for a partner for streaming the games and several big companies were reportedly included in the bidding, although Facebook dropped out of the running recently. The league partnered with Yahoo to stream one of the games played in London last season and is expected to make a deal for streaming that portion of the schedule again this season.

CBS and NBC will each air five Thursday night games with NFL Network simulcasting those contests and broadcasting eight Thursday and late season Saturday games on its own.

Don't give a rats ass how much THEY paid. How much does the fan have to pay to stream Thursday games on Twitter?

According to this site, they're paying $10 million for 10 games. They will also just be re-broadcasting the NBC and CBS feed, so those companies will still be getting the bulk of the ad revenue. Twitter will just be adding their own ads to the page/feed for their own revenue.

The fact that Twitter won it for $10 million when there were bids for $15 million probably indicates that the NFL wants a streaming partner that has international reach.

Meh I'll just stick with NFL Network.

I don't want to see snarky and uptight tweets from critics live.
